Signing period starts 9am tomorrow. Like last year, it goes for two weeks. It ends on Friday the 20th. Like last year, you have to sign 14 names during this time, and you can sign your full squad of 18 if you want. And like last year, everyone's a free agent. But now that the pay deal has been sorted out, you can sign longer deals. Hopefully they tell us how long a player is signed for, but they probably won't. And like last year, it's an one million cap. Now, despite everyone being a free agent, many players have 'bundled' deals. That is, a deal with the state team, and a deal with the bbl team. Hughes is one such player rumoured to have one in place, so he'll be a Striker. The NSW BBL teams are 'independent' from the NSW Blues, so they can't do those. I assume it's the same for the Victorian teams. So the other 4 teams/states have a step up there. You can find the squads for last year here: T20 BigBash Signing Thread

That's probably the 'official' link for signings.

This year's league has seen a few extra fixtures added, so every team has 4 home games. Which is pretty fair. The Sydney teams play each other twice, Melbourne the same, Adl v Perth twice, Brisbane and Hobart twice. Despite these added games, the length of the league is the same, around 6 weeks. That's possible because last year the Perth test ran through the BBL, and so they had a 'rest' period during that time. No such problem this year, and 4 home games each is probably what they wanted to do last year. It starts on the 9th of Dec, the final is on the 19th of Jan, so it starts and ends a week or earlier. It's still on FoxSports too.

Going by the FTP, most international players are out. SA and NZ are playing each other throughout the BBL, England and India tests will (mostly) be done, but not the LO part of the tour. KP's about the only guy this frees up, and he's ruled himself out. Sri Lanka are here, Pakistan are playing Zimababwe...but that being Pakistan and Zimababwe who knows what will happen. Thankfully the T20 cashcow, the West Indies, are free, but last year their T20 comp was on around the time the BB was ending, so that could problematic. A lot of these tours are just planned too, dates aren't in place, so that could hurt BBL planning. India has their domestic comp on, so those guys are out, last year NZ's T20 comp was on at the same time too. Other countries probably the same. The teams will probably be hoping there's not an England Lions taking place during the BBL, removing even more names from the board.

So pretty much, expect a few less big names. However Muralitharan wants to play here. Last year he wasn't available, because had promoised to play for Stephen Fleming's team in their T20 comp, which was going on at the same time, but he's free this time. The Renegades are in prime position. They didn't really have much of an identity last year, so that's good. No word of whether Warne's playing.

I have an inkling that Bailey will leave the Stars to play for the Hurricanes...

I'd be content to resign Gibbs for a season, though I am getting wary of his age.

As for Collingwood, no thanks. I'd be stoked if we signed Dwayne Smith to replace him. Not the biggest name going around but his availability would be better than others and he is a good T20 player.

IIRC Gibbs age and apparent lack of form were against him last season as well. If he was signing for ODD or SS games it would be a problem but it hasn't stopped him playing good T20 cricket.

Of course; but with longer term contracts now able to be given I'd rather we look at a better options for more than one season in mind.

I agree, but I would still like to see us sign Gibbs and use the vacant space where Collingwood used to be to sign an international for the long term.

Birt would have been priority #1. No surprise Blizzard after signing for the Tigers joins the Hurricanes as well.

Rana getting on so prob a wise decision if they do overlook him this time.
