2012 - anything could happen

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

For the first year I've got a sense of unknown about MFC's future. The last decade has almost been predictable in the up-down-up-down-splat phenomenon. But now, hell, Supermercado might actually pick it, and if you've read Demonblog you'd know how good HIS record is.

But now what? New coach. Possibly new captain? New game plan. New ethic.

Finals are possible. Another 8 wins season is possible. What I demand, however, is competetiveness - we have to give every team a crack every week. No more timid rolling over, no more 186-like performances.

Thoughts?

Yes - I agree

I've been pi$$ed off with this club ever since it rolled over against Geelong.

But as of the last 24 hours I am truely excitied about this club again, I like the sound of Neeld, and our Administration although it has copped a lot of flack has handled itself very well.

Hats off to Schwab, G Lyon, Mclardy & Co.

As supporters I think its fine for us to get upset and be pi$$ed off about $kully, Bailey etc. but i think the club has stood up and been professional and got on with the job!

I'm proud to be a Dee again, lets hope the boys lift in 2012! I like that we don't know what's going to happen!

Don't get too excited UH we have not played a game yet.
I have been here before.
Remember the coach does not run out on the ground come game time.
And it will still be the same basic lot playing that were pitiful in 2011.

I seriously believe Melbourne will win the 2012 Premiership, due to an amazing series of coincidences involving Melbourne and the number twelve. These are:

1. Next year is obviously 2012.
2. Melbourne currently have 12 premierships
3. If Melbourne do win the 2012 flag, they will break a drought of 48 years.
4. Melbourne's last premiership was achieved in 1964, with a 4 point win over Collingwood. (4 x 12 = 48).
5. After winning the VFL in 1964, Melbourne took 24 years to next play in a Grand Final, when they played in 1988 against Hawthorn.
6. Another 12 years passed before Melbourne played in their next Grand Final in 2000, against Essendon.
7. 2012 is 12 years after 2000.
8. Melbourne lost these Grand Finals by 96 & 60 points respectively, again multiples of 12.
9. Melbourne have played in 12 finals series since 1964.
10. Melbourne finished 2011 in 13th position, and must climb 12 places to win the flag.

Given that Melbourne sides in the past have climbed the ladder very quickly (and vice versca) and that a side will be competing (GWS Giants) that is a good chance of going winless for the first time since Fitzroy in 1964, the omens look good for a Demon premiership in 2012. I have a feeling it may be against Collingwood.

Personally I am most glad that the dark cloud that was the Tom $cully saga has been lifted after hovering over the club for the whole season.

Bring on 2012!

You forgot to add we have pick 12 in this years draft. Our second pick 36 is a multiple of 12. Our last coach (Todd Viney) wore the number 12 during his playing days at the Dees. Our Best & Fairest winner (Brent Moloney) was traded to the club in exchange for pick 12.

But most importantly, you've been smoking 12 cones if you think we're a chance of winning the flag next year. ;)

Honest to god, all my life I have been obsessed with the number twelve. This post just justified it. Thank you :)

No shit all these number 12s are like candy for my brain.

lol most ridiculous thing I have ever read, but god I hope you're right.
But in all seriousness we will finish between 6-10 and get knocked out first or second week of finals. 2013 we will be a force to be reckoned with

Are all these a sign we'll finish 1st?

..or 12th? :o
You beat me to it Demon 16 I was thinking the same thing.
Seriously that will be close IMO.
With the same basic cattle as 2011 I fail to see us doing much more than reducing the number of big losses and winning a couple of games more than this year.

I disagree a bit there AD, I think our young guys will be starting to mature really well next year.. in terms of experience and body size, we'll see some solid improvement.

Our cattle have been misguided, but the quality of the beef is there.

The 2012 Grand Final is 12 months (including this one) from now.

Colin Sylvia has 12 on his back. Back him for the Brownlow ;)

I do not think our expectations are far apart.
Solid improvement might mean two 9+ goal losses instead of seven and only a 6 goal loss at Geelong instead of 31.
as I said 2 more wins and only 2 large losses would be a big improvement on 2011.

Angus beef is it?

Hi guys,
I believe the dees should be aiming for 12+ wins and competitve performances against the top 4 teams, thats not to much to ask for is it?
That should see us sitting 7th (maybe?).
(12 wins for the year)

first post as you all prob know.

Welcome to the board BBTO.

I hope you're right but I'm not sharing your optimism. I'm guessing 9th or 10th whilst we re-adjust to a defensive game plan. Plus I don't see much significant improvement coming from individuals this year - I think we're still 1 year away from stepping up..

Agree with this. Actually I agree with all of it. I think we should just be aiming for more wins than last season, winning on the road (particularly in Adelaide and at Corp. Stadium) and if we lose, lose like we did in 2010.

I think most of us are placing a whole lot of faith in the new coach taking a hard line with some of our TJ's (I'm looking at you Cale) and drumming the footballers out of them that we all know are in there somewhere. Well that's what I'm hoping for anyway.

Ive said it in other threads, I reckon I'll be approaching the coming season like a true Melbourne Supporter suffering from MSDS unfortunately. Here's to hoping I get pleasantly surprised.

Yeh I dont see it as being pessimistic djcj - just that I see our 18 - 21 year old core needing to be 23 - 26 before we are bigger, stronger and more experienced than other sides.

This year Ill be looking for a turn in mental and physical toughness. Things like Morton and Davey consistantly laying strong defensive tackles, and not getting blown away by any team during the year.
