They'd be more likely to trade pick 4 for a mini draft pick wouldn't they? Wouldn't affect GWS as the dees would probably still have to use 3 on Viney.

F/S bidding comes first. So they may not have pick 3 come trade week as it will be already an activated pick in the draft for Viney. Apparently comp picks can't be traded for mini draft picks, but I'm so sure and can't seem to find anything that clarifies it.
That's not correct at all. Adelaide/GC both traded a compo pick as well as a main draft pick for the mini-drafts last year. They were both unactivated. An activated compo pick is just a draft pick so can be traded as well.

after watching this finals series you realise how crucial big body inside mids with strength are. might influence drafting someone like Kennedy, instead going for a Stringer (who is an absolute brute) or Vlaustin

Wines would be the dream pick (Martin clone) his movement, kicking action and power through his hips/core are so reminiscent of Dusty its not funny

for picks 29/31 i would be after one of Clurey, smith or O brien if they fall, all very good developing talls and wright or garner would be nice HFF

Both teams had a lot of outside run as well, Jetta factored, and Dangerfield did his best work in the loose. Boomer goes pretty well in finals also and Kennedy has been likened to him. Think we need both hard bodied mids and more pace.

a couple of drafting GOLDEN rules that if the club adhered over the journey we may well be in a different place.

1. Dont draft ruckman with first rounder...probability suggests best ones are generally rookied
2. Dont draft players under 180cm with first rounder...aint too many Elite players of this stature...One player in whole league, aint good odds
3. Dont draft players that could ride in the Melb cup day hurdle (<70Kg), history shows these skinny runts never put any weight on

there you have it, call me crazy but this is just common sense ;)

4. Don't draft duds.

Sam Bowie. Don't draft for need in the first round. Pick best available. Kruezer over Cotchin.

Unless he's Ben Kennedy. This guy is no joke. He will be a fantastic player, goal sense, x factor, excellent kick, can get his own ball, unbelievable speed, good tackler. He isn't less than 70kilos. He's 76kg. 6kilos heavier than Stephen Hill when he got drafted and he's 10cm taller than him. Get on him.

big no for me is gartlett

very outside,

may play like lewis jetta but he hasnt got his character, jetta is a solid citizen gartlett could be out of the system lovett style in 5 years

with the likelihood that we will have a chose of 2-3 genuine inside midfielders at 9, why risk it?

1. Have we drafted any rucks outside of Ottens/Vickery in the 1st round? They are both very much worth the pick they were taken at.
2. Coniglio/Greene this year alone. Marc Murphy says hi. So does Cyril Rioli.
3. Bit like Stephen Hill and Lewis Jetta. They are spuds.

I'm certain with our recruiting the past 5 years we will get 3 very very good players in the draft,Add to that 2-3 F/A players and the natural progression of our younger players - we will do just fine

2 Good mids & L.McBean
Liam McBean

Calder Cannons (VIC)
25 August 1994
202cm, 84kg

McBean is similar to Joe Daniher in the way that he is strong and mobile but is likely to finish lower in the draft pecking order than his team-mate.

He's not very outside, he wins 50/50 contests when he's in the position to compete in them. He's a waste of talent going after the hard ball, he's got more talent that Stephen Hill for what it's worth. Richmond believe they can develop him into a full time footballer then they should do it.

I think you might find that people see quick skinny indigenous kid and presume he's outside. Super talent. Where do you see Simpson going?

Well said.

I too believe he is one of the most naturally gifted players I have seen in a while. Agree he is better at the same age than Stephen Hill.

We should believe we can develop him, but it seems we intend on making a safe choice whatever than means. Whatever happens, I will enjoy watching Garlett play the game for years to come.

Good vision in traffic. Me likey.

Is he a realistic chance to be at 9 or is it more of a hope he falls scenario?

Not going to fall. Whitfield, Toumpas, Plowman, Grundy, Mayes, O'Rourke, Wines, Viney are probably going to be gone by our pick. Unless GWS gets a pick from another team for a mini-draft pick then they might go with Mason Shaw as he's best forward after Daniher. ORRR unless some club sees more talent in other players like Garlett, Menzel, Stringer and Kennedy.
