If we get Tyson for 9 I'll do numerous naked dances in the street.

My two cents: I don't want either Wines or Vlastuin.

It's who all the talk in here has been on - but give me Gartlett or MacRae or Kennedy anyday.

I'd prefer to debate this rather than just go the 'your opinion' route - that way is no fun.

Have you seen the Pioneers? Their strength was a depth in bullocking inside mids. Maybe not all of them had the body size of Wines, but players like Chisari, Heavyside, Byrne, Walls and Stringer are all inside, rather than outside players. Same with Joel Donehue and Jono Lanyon.

What they were crying out for were people who could play in and out and use that ball. Wines is best when he's in and under - there was plenty of inside support if he wanted to play as a receiver - but he didn't.

In fact - you'd probably prefer if players like O'Meara, Chisari and Flood had the ball streaking forward than Wines. They're more damaging. I'd take Heavyside's decision making/disposal in front of Wines, too.

I don't think he's capable of playing outside.

From what ive seen of Tyson this season and when he played last year he can certainly be an inside/outside mid

Tyson >>>>>>> Vlastuin>Wines

TFLUA really respect your opinions on the kids coming through. You've probably already said it somewhere but what are your knocks on Vlastuin?

Yes I have seen the poineers play , I have also seen Wines play other than in the poineers and IMO he is a very good user of the footy and does have a good outside game which has not been noticeable when playing with the poineers as I haven't seen him used within that role .
It's your opinion that he is a poor user and you'd rather have it in the hands of others , likewise it's your opinion that he doesnt have a outside game . Have you seen him play anywhere other than poineers or used within a outside role ?

I have just watched the game and also thought he was close to BOG, but dropped off in the last a bit. Wonder to those into the phantom drafts and watched these kids all year feel he will go. I see some have him as our 2nd/3rd picks?? Surely he'll go top 20??

I think a few months ago he would've been there at around 30, dont think there is much chance anymore, if we could nab #24 from gws for nahas i would be more confident, think he will be around the 20 mark give or take.

I've seen Ollie play for VC, yes.

It's not my opinion that he's a poor user. I never said that. I don't know why you keep turning us full circle.

Similarly I don't think you get used in an outside role. Cotchin is a truly inside/out mid, as is Watson, Marc Murphy, Ablett, Bartel, Hodge. Not all of them are perfect kicks - but they make you hurt when they have the ball.

I don't think Ollie has a huge hurt factor on the spread, and he's not lightning fast with his hands in the middle. I don't even know if he sees the game faster than others do.

I'm in a bit of a rush so this won't be anywhere near as long as it should be. Send me a PM and I'll send you an essay.

Played in a lot of behind the ball roles with the Knights. Think he's pretty slow with his hands and don't know if his disposal is good enough to make him stand out. I like him, I just don't think he's pick 9 good, or likely to be elite in the AFL system. I think he's likely to be a VERY solid citizen at AFL level though.
 
What are people's thoughts on trying to trade for another pick in the top 20?

With Whitfield, Toumpas, Viney, Grundy, Macrae, Wines, Stringer, Plowman, Daniher, Vlastuin, O'Rourke, Mayes, Garlett, Menzel and Membrey all looking like top 15 material, i'm sure 1 if not 2 or 3 will slide down the order a little. If we had say Pick 9 and 15-16, we could secure 2 of these players and add the required depth to our midfield in one hit with say O'Rourke and Wines....

The trading for Knights and Chaplin have been crucial already,as Knights can play through the midfield and on the forward flank increasing our midfield depth and Chaplin is a big body down back and now makes it redundant in keeping Post with Astbury, Griffiths, Rance, Grimes and Chaplin all ahead of him as talls.

Would a trade of say Post, Pick 29 and Pick 31 to Geelong (need a tall back replacement for Scarlett) for Pick 15 and Pick 55 be fair?

Be very happy if we ended up with 15 cos I reckon there's a good chance Vlastiun will still be there...

Originally a scenario to try and get 2 of Wines, Vlastuin, O'Rourke etc. but if we get Tyson with 9 (Preference) then we could try and get back into the first round by using our 2x second rounders and maybe Post... All hypothetical, as I really like the top 20 or so but can't see the same talent there at 29/31
