Seeing as it's highly improbable we'll take Gartlett, are there any players similar to him that might still be available at our later picks and if so, are we a chance to select them?
Tim Sumner a possibility.

Jesse Lonergan and Ben Kennedy are players who have some pace but are more well rounded than Garlett. In saying this, they'll probably be gone by pick 32. There is a guy named Matt Dick who is a rebounding defender with real pace about him. Is good on talls and smalls and is 6'2". I see him being a big opportunity to be there at picks 32, 34 and 43 if we want that type of player.

A final left-field player that will certainly be available at those picks and possibly the rookie draft is a guy called Shannon Taylor. Very fast and is a small forward who goes through the midfield. He is probably the player most like Garlett but Taylor is a little bit of an untried talent.

Garlett is very talented and in this draft, is almost one of a kind. If he slips through we're lucky but we can look at some hard midfielders instead. Lonergan is a beauty in that aspect with pace and tackling ability.

Interesting todays article on afl.com.au had Vlastuin being a good fit for both Port and Brisbane, and we know where their picks are!

Thought I would throw up some names for the rookie draft. I know its early but what the hell.

- Jonothon Beech (22yr old 187cm 85kg wing/HFF West Adelaide) following on from the recruitment of Steve Morris another West Adelaide player who has had 67 games of senior experience in the SANFL.
- Jaye Bowden (23yr old 188cm 77kg Midfielder Glenorchy) Again another mature aged recruit, won Glenorchys B&F this year playing as an inside midfielder and reportedly has excellent disposal by foot.
- Kory Beard (22yr old 195cm 93kg KPP Port Magpies) Played CHB for Port and finished 4th in their senior B&F. If we're looking for a Post replacement could be worthwhile.
- Adam Cockie (23yr old 182cm 85kg Midfielder) Myke Cook (23yr old 182cm 80kg Midfielder) Jackson Coleman (21yr old 196cm 92kg KPP) all 3 are Sandringham boys and all could be worthy of rookie spots. The first 2 obviously midfield prospects while Coleman could be another Post replacement.
- Daniel Currie (23yr old 199cm 92kg Ruckman North Adelaide) I know a few Tigers fans who wanted us to try and snare him during trade week using the GWS pre-listed player loophole but it never happened. Would be a project ruckman if we did take him on.
- Sam Gilmore (19yr old 200cm 93kg Ruckman Northern Knights) not a mature aged player but given we should be looking at taking a ruckman this guy should be on our list of possibles.
- Jack Hannath (21yr old 202cm 85kg Ruckman Centrals) Skinny ruckman who would again be a project ruckman that could play at Coburg 3rds for a year without any pressure to develop. Already playing first ruck at Centrals so can mix it with grown men. Given he is young he could be given time to develop physically.
- Justin Hardy (24yr old 196cm 97kg KPP Centrals) SANFL leading goal kicker last yearwith 58 goals. Not a major need but getting in a proven KPF just in case we need one wouldn't be the dumbest thing we could do. Khan Haretuku (23yr old 199cm 101kg KPF Frankston) is another to fit that same criteria.
- Kyle Hendy (18yr old 199cm 93kg Ruckman NBR) Another young project ruckman and reading his profile he comes across as someone who could appeal. Very technical ruckwork and aggressive (hates being beaten).
- Alex Howson (18yr old 195cm 90kg KPF East Fremantle) kicked 58.27 for the year as he won the colts goal kicking which included 5 bags of 5 or more, failing to kick a goal only once in 18 games. Interestingly played as a KPD in the championships.
- Kyle Martin (22yr old 182cm 81kg Midfielder Frankston) Won the Dolphins B&F as a strong marking midfielder.
- David Mirra (21yr old 186cm 86kg Midfielder Box Hill) Strong skilful midfielder/defender who ran 5th in Box Hills B&F. Another mature aged possibility.
- Dan Noonan (22yr old 193cm 92kg KPD Port Melbourne) played FB for Port this year, a strong player with good closing speed and a neat left foot.
- Chris Prowse (19yr old 203cm 92kg Ruckman Oakleigh) mature aged in the TAC this year. Missed the early part of the season through injury but upon return showed some promising signs playing up forward clunking marks and kicking goals.
- Ben Ross (24yr old 179cm 79kg Midfielder Werribee) JJ Liston medal winner who was on the Roos list, since going back to VFL has starred, worthwhile of a rookie spot.
- Ben Saunders (21yr old 186cm 82kg Mid/HFF South Fremantle) League goalkicking winner in the WAFL with 66 goals. A powerful athlete with a good leap and displays good defensive pressure in F50.
- Michael Sikora (23yr old 206cm 103kg Ruckman Sandringham) Stepped up to be Sandys number 1 ruckman this year. Moves well and takes a decent grab. Given our need to get a replacement for Angus we could do worse.
- Matt Sully (21yr old 195cm 95kg KPD Geelong) With Post going we may well need a replacement and this player seems to have the height and size to fill that role.

Cheers lads!:thumbsu:

Think we really need to take at least one pacey outside runner. (Never thought I'd be hoping for that after the Wallace years!)

i have always been against taking big men round 1 and 2 as 90% of our picks have back fired, for some who say he will play round 1 no chance lucky to play 1 game in 2013.i will stick to my motto mids , mids and more mids first 2 rounds. ( hope to be proven wrong with reg )

Anyone think Cooke from Melbourne is worth a rookie spot? People are bemoaning our lack of a genuine CHF and he must've gone pick 12 for a reason. Surely can't just be down to Melbourne's utter incompetence that he went that early? Surely every club learnt from observing us under Miller and the JON & Tambling fiascos.

Also - any further word on our alleged interest in the Yanks for the international rookie spots?

I think we will go mids no matter what. The attitude has been all about winning next year. No idea what we will do for a ruck though. Vlastuin will be pick 8/9 (depending on if the Dees lose their pick) I rate him above Wines FWIW who Melbourne have pegged at pick 4 if they keep it.

Vlastuin for me at number 9 still. Hope we rookie a young kpf and developing ruck. If we've got the space still rookie a mature mid who can extract the pill (would be immediate cover for yucky if he retires next year).

Certainlly will be an interesting draft!

It does feel like our recruiting of larger blokes in early rounds has been flawed, but when you think about it Riewoldt, Vickery (granted, not quite there yet), Griffiths (promising if stays uninjured), Rance (not ruckman size but still not a mid) proves that it's possible to get a pretty decent spine early in the draft. If anything it's as likely we'd stuff up a mid (Tambling, Polo, Meyer, Fiora, JON just off the top of my head).

But past aside (and less relevant thanks to our new recruiting and talent identification team and stronger strategic approach), my views are that we go the BEST player possible regardless of size. If we end up with a gun young ruck/forward in Grundy then that's an amazing result. If we end up with a player who has the tough yet quality traits of Vlastuin then that's great too. You can't have too many of either of these types of players - they're the ones that eventually win you finals.

First post in a few years, couldn't hold back because it's such an exciting draft!

Really depends on what happens with regards to Melbourne, and whether or not Tippet nominates for the ND or PSD. If either situation eventuates it will just mean there is even more talent to pick from.

Personally, I'd like to see Vlastuin, Macrae, Wines, Menzel, or (if things fall our way) Grundy. I don't mind Garner either.

Would be amazing if we could snag Grundy at 9, Colquhoun at 32, Broomhead at 34, and Towers at 43.

Yeah, he is a bad character. He is selfish in a way that he wants all the glory, even if there is a teammate who is a better option. He also abuses teammates and has a bad attitude. I wouldn't knock his ability though, he is a very good footballer and he would be considered a top 3 pick without the leg problems.
hey MR was just wondering who do you thinkj is better out oif the shorter players mainly ben kennedy and nathan hrovat,, if either of these 2 were availabke at pick 32 which would you take cheers

Nope. It will be Vlastuin unless someone slides.

So it seems Menzel to 3 is on, and Stringer will go before Richmond, Toumpas and Whitfield to the giants, Wines to Melbourne which give Richmond possibly the pick of whoever of Grundy, O'Rourke, Mayes and Macrae is left at pick 9? These seem to be the sliders, it'd be interesting to see what Jackson think about how Vlasutin and Garner compare to O'Rourke, Mayes and Macrae, not to mention Grundy which is a tough comparison admittedly.

Don't know too much about Broomhead but those other 3 are genuine players. Even if you take out Grundy and put in a Vlaustin or Macrae, teamed up with Colquhoun and Towers would be an amazing draft for us. Amazing off-season too considering we pretty much gave up nothing for Knights, Chaplin and Edwards.

I think he'd take Vlastuin over them. Just his tough ball-winning ability.

Definitely! I also wouldn't mind seeing McBean somewhere in the mix. He really could go anywhere, but is a risk I wouldn't mind us taking with a later pick, that is if he makes it to one of our selections.

I'd take Kennedy before Hrovat. Currently Hrovat is a much better inside player, but does not possess even the nearest ounce of the outside game that Kennedy has. Kennedy also has elite pace and that's something Hrovat will never have. Kennedy is also the best small forward of this pool too. Kennedy is far too versatile and athletically gifted to pass on.

Martin_Riewoldt & Tigerbob who are your favourites for next year at this early stage?

Thoughts on Sheed & Grescos from WA?

I love Aish, I see an elite player immediately. I'm not sold on Boyd yet, I know his coach too, he reckons he is too slow. Billings has incredible football smarts. It's as though he was born to be an AFL footballer. I think he's that talented that at worst he'll be as good as Chapman.

As I've said a few times before, I have not been able to see much of the non-vic boys, but from what I've seen so far, I think Sheed will be an excellent player. He'll be one of those players who racks up 25 possessions a game, be a very damaging player. From what I've seen he's pretty good inside and out.

Unfortunately, I have not seen enough of Grescos to give a proper comment.

I'm back on the Vlastuin wagon after watching the herald sun vid on him. There's a link on the drafts and trading board under his page. Would have copied it but on the iPad. He's just a pure, hard as a cats head, skilfull footballer. Lined up along with cotch and dusty our midfield will have a really physical presence.

still think FJ is gonna choose some one who we will go " didnt see that one coming "

That's what I want to hear MR :thumbsu:

While on the subject, how the flying saucer do you pronounce his name? I've heard it pronounced 'floss-twin', 'floss-tane', 'floss-toon', 'floss-ten'... Everyone is as confused as I am it seems
