You are right though. Realistically Melbourne should still win all. As good as he is there is adequate talent and cover in the team for one player.

I saw someone on LU suggest Smith would hurt more. Theoretically maybe but with both of them / Widdop can slot to FB, Hinchcliffe to hooker. Not a bad situation to be in.

i would rather lose Slater than Smith, but that's just my opinion. A good hooker is impossible to replace. Take Farah out of your side and it hurts like no other. Hookers are the generals that marshall the troups.

Cronk is the big one for me. He is the one I'd least like to lose because we have no real replacement for him. Hinchcliffe, Widdop, Duffie can adequately replace Smith or Slater, but Kostjasyn is not of that ilk at halfback. Not by a long shot.

really missing Slater's scramble defense, he would have killed the ball dead in that Stewart try and wouldn't have been sucked in like Duffy was with that last one.
