Ok folks, the new extended trade period is nearly upon us, so I thought it was time to bust out this thread again.

This thread is intended purely as a repository for links to all Lions-related trade news.

This thread is not for discussion, so when it pops up you'll know that there's some news, not just someone else offering their opinion (again) on whether we should go after Tippett.

If you would like to discuss something you read in here then head on over to the trade discussion thread.

Your help keeping this thread up to date would be appreciated.

If a new relevant article pops up that isn't in here already create a new post in the following format:

Big Crows forward Kurt Tippett must decide whether to head home or stay in Adelaide

D-DAY for Queenslander Kurt Tippett could come as early as this week following Adelaide's narrow loss to Hawthorn in Saturday night's preliminary final.

Once the standard end-of-season player performance and medical reviews are finalised at Adelaide this week, Tippett will turn his attention to his future.

"Kurt has a number of commitments in Adelaide this week and the other things will flow on from that," his manager Peter Blucher said yesterday.

"Obviously, he has some big decisions to make.

"Now that his season is over, he can move on to the next phase."

Off the field, Adelaide has tabled the richest deal ever presented to a Crow - a contract reaching almost $800,000 a season. .......Blah, blah, blah

The pain of that season-ending defeat has Adelaide holding off an immediate call to Tippett and his Brisbane-based management to return the negotiation table.

"It's going to take a few days to settle down after a loss like that," said Adelaide chief executive Steven Trigg yesterday.
"It's appropriate we give Kurt time to put that game behind him before we pick up again with him and his management."

Adelaide get no answer from Tippett

KURT Tippett has refused to tell Adelaide coach Brenton Sanderson whether he is staying or leaving the Crows after an amicable end-of-season meeting.

“Is he going to stay or go? Unfortunately we are no closer today to that answer,” Sanderson said.

“He is returning home and he is going to spend some time with his family and his manager over the weekend.

“I can’t tell you what the deadline is … but I am really hopeful we get a decision off him in the next few days at least.

“I have been asking him that for a few weeks, and a few months. I am not going to hold a gun to his head.”

At last, some quotes from Kerr:

"We've been in contact with Tippett's management over the last few days,'' Brisbane National Talent Manager Rob Kerr said.
"We certainly haven't been told that we are not (in the hunt).'

AFL trade week starts on Monday and Kerr said the Lions would be looking to recruit "at least one mature body into the club'' outside of Tippett.

Brisbane wants to bolster its midfield stocks and fill the all-important key forward/relieving ruckman position.

"There has been some talk that Patty (ed: Karnezis) hasn't settled in as well as he would have liked but from our point-of-view, he is a contracted player and it is our intention over the next 12 months to help him settle in because we value him highly both as a footballer and as a person.''

There are some other interesting tidbits in the article - give it a read.

Just a reminder that this thread is for links to news only, not for discussion.

Any discussion stemming from those articles should be raised in the trade thread.

The idea is to give those who don't want to read every post of the trade thread an 'at a glance' update on relevant news and info.

And yes, I get the hypocrisy. ;)

Brisbane's Banfield considers options

The one-time Australian Gaelic Rules representative is considering options and seems likely to ask to be traded when the league’s official three-week trade period starts on Monday, October 8. Banfield could emerge as a portion of any trade package that Lions management offer Adelaide as bargaining to win potential boom recruit Kurt Tippett hots up as soon as the annual trading period opens. Banfield, 22, has only been offered a one-year contract to stay with the Lions and is believed to be keen on at least a two-year deal.

Finally?

Tippett is expected to announce today where he wants to play next season. It is understood that the Brisbane Lions have offered a lucrative five-year deal, while Gold Coast and Sydney have also offered long-term contracts.
While still hopeful about Brisbane's chances, Lions football manager Rob Kerr said yesterday the Swans had emerged as a serious destination for a man who originally wanted to return to Queensland. ''They have put together a pretty attractive offer, dare I say,'' he said. ''I expect we will find out [on Saturday] morning.''
Tippett did not make an announcement yesterday because he did not want it to overshadow the Crows' best and fairest function, held last night.

Tippett's manager, Peter Blucher, said the player's preference was for a decision to be revealed today. ''Wherever he goes, he will be happy,'' he said.

Brisbane also expects to retain clever forward Todd Banfield despite a dispute over the length of a new contract offered to him. The Lions have tabled a one-year deal, but Banfield wants two more seasons. He is in Perth on annual leave and was scheduled to meet with his manager, Paul Connors, last night.
Kerr said the club expected Banfield to stay. "We're not all that far away in terms of coming to an arrangement," Kerr said.
The Lions are also hoping to keep Patrick Karnezis, who has asked the club to explore his options back home in Victoria.
Karnezis is contracted until the end of next season.
