And he lost the 2nd set 6-2. Honestly the match went exactly as I was expecting so not really fussed but still seems like he doesn't care at times. Lleyton has me on the edge of the seat for the entire match but with Bernie, it's hard to care at times because he doesn't seem to.

Nadal first hard court match on ESPN now. Started off well

Completely agree. Hewitt could be 6-0 5-0 40-0 down and I'd still be sitting there cheering him on and confident he could at least get a couple games in there and trouble his opponent. With Tomic as soon as I see him go a break down I smell trouble, and unfortunately he often delivers. Desperately hoping it improves as he becomes more mature, because he does have a hell of a lot of talent.

I just don't get Tomic at all. I know it is nothing new, but it is worrying that he shows no sign of improvement regarding care/fight during a match. He hasn't beaten a top 10 guy since 2011. How can you not get up for a big match like today's??

Great win for Lleyton. Hopfully he can back it up against Stan. Not suprised with the Tomic result at all. Nadal looking pretty good up 7-6(2) 4-1 against Harrison.

Gulbis beat Tipsarevic 6-2 6-0. Tipsarevic still yet to win a match since the AO.

Tipsarevic is probably a match fixer, and if not he puts in too many shit efforts regardless.

I can jsut see from the scoreboard that Bernie gave up in the second set. You don't even have to watch the match to know it's happened!

Thought Marinko started off pretty poorly and really could of played better today (he did improve as the match went on) but Monaco was just lolbad in the 2nd. Really happy he's in the third round, needs to start getting results in tournaments like these. Querrey or Karlovic next is also a possible win.

Still waiting on Ebden's match

Murray was also not great today, very rusty.

Hewitt and Wawrinka is the night match tomorrow. Not before 2.30pm

Cheers ESPN, I really wanted to watch meaningless college basketball instead of one of the biggest tennis tournaments of the year.

**** you.

Yeah, it's really bad. Got the laptop hooked up to the tv and just watching it on tennistv. They have got lleytons match on later on ESPN.

Sammy won in 3 sets over Peng. It going to 3 sets probably tells me that Sammy was a level off from the other day. Ivanovic or Barthel next she'll have to be awake for

The thing that irritates me is that they have two channels showing the same thing. Why can't one of them show the live tennis tournament they have the rights to?

Stosur just could not break in that second set, lowered her return game substantially. Wasn't a bad game from her, but wouldn't have beaten Ivanovic or Barthel playing like that.

Living the life. Can I come over? :p

Lleytons match just starting now really hope he can get up. Azarenka taken to 3 sets against Flipkens? Sam taken to 3 sets against Peng is a worry. But I think she can beat Barthel.

Wawrinka takes it 6-4, 7-5. Wawrinka played well but Hewitt played a few lacklustre games to get broken. That game at 5-5 was rather disappointing. Good week but I would of like to seen a match with Federer.

Marinko is 2nd on Court 2 tomorrow so there will be coverage. Sam is on Court 3 so sadly she won't

Marinko  somebody needs to grow the f*** up. Just a mugfest of a match capped off by Marinko whinging at 5-5 in the third about a correct line call that he couldn't challenge because he was out of challenges and then basically threw away his service game because of it. And Sam nearly gave it back to him. Just no words...

Sam desperately needs a new second serve. It's just too predictable now, everyone expects it and trains for it; it's gone from one of the best second serves in the women's game to one of the easiest to return in the top 100. Lost the first set 6-4 to Barthel but is 4-2 up in the second.

Sam wins. Apart from a little hiccup getting broken at 4-0 up, going by the scoreboard she was pretty good after that. Although, I was getting a bit worried when she needed a few MP's there (that's the Sam way though I guess:p). She started off pretty poorly, but you got the feeling that those few games she won towards the end of the first helped her out immensly.

Also disppointing to hear Marinko was a stooge this morning. Makes you wonder about the mooning stories from years ago, getting kicked off Davis cup team etc. What a moronic time to crack the shits, even if you are correct you're just asking for trouble. Very disappointing. Also think I read something on twitter about him getting annoyed and making a comment about a particular area being "for players only" or something. It was a few days ago now though and I can't remember what it was about exactly. It was from one of fortydeuce's twitter mates....

Glad Sam got the win, Barthel would of been a tough match for her. Really this should be a surface that suits Sammy very well so she should be going deep her. Kerber is another step up in level but she is one of the top players Sam can beat. Sam plays her game well she can win this one. Big opportunity to get this year going. She won't play till friday (hopefully before work for me)

Nadal/Gulbis should be a lot of fun tomorrow

Sam plays her game well she can win this one.
Her first serve needs to be absolutely on or she'll get steamrolled. Even if she takes a couple of kms off it, she needs to get that first serve in or Kerber will just step around the second and go for broke. Can't afford to drop below 65-70% imo.

Kerber more of a counterpuncher/defensive player than a ballbasher/power player. She won't be able to kill the 2nd serve like a few other top players can do (Azarenka, Sharapova) as long as it doesn't get too predictable (whichc an happen)then first serve percentage shouldn't matter too much. Sam's groundies will play more of a factor I feel. Getting that first strike in will be key. I'm trying to remember the match they played at the US Open semi in '11, Sam did struggle with the leftie serve too, another problem but both players played nervy tennis in that one, was a huge stage.

Of the top 4 seeds, Sam would have to be happy with facing Kerber. She has a good record against her and she is playing well on this surface. I give her a good chance, as long as the serve is working well for her. I was also happy that she cam back and won after losing the first set.

The issue with Kerber is that she is very good at reading that kick serve. While she can't kill it, she's very good at picking her spots and timing her hits to perfection. If Sam steps off the gas on that second serve, which happens when her first isn't working, Kerber will just take the lefty forehand every time and catch Sam running. Probably the best match up of the top four seeds, definitely, but she'll need to keep the points very short and make sure she hits her spots with her first serve. She hates lefty serves which will make it difficult to break; she doesn't want to throw her random awful service games in there.
