That NSW Cup rugby shit was all over fox sports today, yet the Davis Cup gets a delayed telecast after midnight...

Not sure Jerzy Janowicz would of made that much of a difference to the final outcome really. Great performance by Bernard and Hewitt.

What also is fantastic is seeing Bernard stepping up for Australia. And so excited about Kyrgios

They will play on clay.

Draw might open up nicely for Tomic and Kyrgios to win the thing in a couple of years. We will have home ties against France, Germany, Argentina and Serbia if we draw any of them in the future. Just need to get the clay tie against Spain out of the way as well in the play offs after we lose to France :rainbow:

They might not play on it, it's their least favourite surface and its a 1st round fixture in February. Obivously it would hurt us. So many varying factors, obivously we need Tsonga still to be injured or not playing well, if he's not in there then you would we have a chance against their 2nd player, probably Simon. Gasquet was beatn by Tomic as well at Wimby but I guess that was grass. The doubles is brutal too and we'll most likely have to win it. We'll know more once January rolls around but at least it's not Spain....

Can someone please explain how the draw is worked out for Davis Cup, and who plays where?

Also - if we lost to France are we knocked out?

Im quite optimistic about our chances - yes were up against it, but it might not be a complete whitewash.

Tomic beat Gasquet at Wimby (already mentioned by Matt)
Kyrgios won his first round at FO this year, and is improving every game
Hewitt nearly beat Simon at Wimby, and we know he steps up for Aus
Tsonga might be injured

Who would play doubles for France?

If we lose to France we have to go through the world group playoffs to stay in - the positive thing is that we'll get drawn against a team attempting to qualify, so no chance of a side already in the world group.

Tsonga is playing Metz this week so unless his injury recurs or he gets a new one I wouldn't count on it.

Llodra and Benneteau would likely play the doubles.

Cheers. Is palying home or away detirmined by a flip of a coin?

Also, one more question, would a home tie would be played on grass, and if so, where? Radelaide?

The draw of the qualified teams is split into seeds and non seeds based on the ITF tennis rankings.

The home team is decided on an alternate basis ie last time we played France it was in Australia, so this time it is in France and the home team chooses the surface. There is a coin toss or draw of lots or whatever if the nations have never met before.

If we lose in the first round against France we drop back to the world group playoffs i.e. where we were against the Poles and go into the draw with fellow first round world group playoff losers and regional qualifying winners. Win that we stay in the world group for the following year. Lose and we go back to regional qualifiers in 2015.

Grass used to be Adelaide. Last time we got a home tie against the Swiss we played on grass at some private golf club in Sydney. When we were in regionals against China, Chinese Taipei etc it wasn't worth preparing grass and we just played on hard.

What surface we play on at home likely depends on who we draw. Against a strong grass team we'd likely choose a hard court. Hard to see us opting for clay though.

As for where, I don't know. Wouldn't be Melbourne though, you'd think.

We will struggle to beat France whatever the surface. Llodra and Benneteau are a very good doubles team, which means we need 3/4 of the singles against the likes of Simon/Gasquet/Tsonga/Monfils. I don't see it happening.

World Group Playoffs will probably be on grass either in Sydney or at Kooyong.

The final is being played this weekend and it's not even been shown by Foxtel, beyond a joke.

A rubber all with Djokovic and Berdych winning and now the crucial doubles tonight

They're showing a replay of all three days from Monday-Wednesday. Pathetic really.

Pity it was an absurd time of the night too, that's another reason why it should of been live on foxtel, would of been able to record and watch it.
