With Aish, I don't get it. And clearly nor did melbourne. Nor does GWS or St Kilda.
That's ridiculous. What you said here makes zero sense. So because St Kilda and GWS don't want to spend a top three pick on Aish he isn't worth a first rounder?

They don't want to use those picks on Freeman either. So by your awesome logic he is also not worth a first round pick?

I believe bill Hartung tagged him out of the game and dominated himself
Hartung is also very quick and some real attributes which excite me a lot more than Aish
The church of Aish
Jordie McKenzie tagged Gary Ablett out of a game this year, does that make him better?

You can't judge a player off a 5 minute highlights video, stats and combine results. You have to actually watch them play.

I watched Aish play at the championships the last two years and four SANFL games, I know that's not much but from what I've seen there I'm very confident he'll be a very good player.

What the hell happened on this thread while I was away?

Yebiga says he doesn't want Aish, and would rather Freeman instead.

Cue yebiga becoming Frankenstein's monster :p

71. Syd – Nick Favretto (SA – Mid)
West Adelaide
188 cm 88 kg
Player Comparison: Sam Mitchell
Favretto is a skilful midfielder who can play both on the inside and outside. He’s a solid kick
when he plays on the outside and knows where to run when linking up. He racks up plenty of the ball so I feel he’s a great chance to get drafted. He’s a good size, kicks goals and doesn’t have any massive flaws. Port could go with a tall forward or ruckman, but I think they might hold off till next year.

from the bound for glory mock draft, anyone seen much of him? I took him in our draft machine picks late in the draft ;)

If you exclude Aishs 4 possession game he still only has an average of 19 possessions in the under18 champs
Why is he referred to as prolific?

Actually Fraser Fort tested well at the combine with many pbs and was both taller and heavier than is listed.

To sum up the Aish-Freeman argument, Aish is a natural footballer while freeman can look like an athlete at times.

Wasn't Aish touted as the number 1 pick last year? All of a sudden he is average at best? Just because he is sliding from 2 to 4 - now is he the next 'Higgins'.

It is five minutes of their highlights
It is what they do when they get the ball
It is their respective attributes
It's is their stats
Freemans superior speed and repeat running efforts are only confirmed by the combine tests
I don't imagine anyone would claim Aish is faster, or fitter, are they?

"Elects to kick the ball out of contests, rather than handball out as an extract to find a target. His kick to handball ratio is through the roof, and sometimes his rush disposal gets the better of him when teams are smart enough to sit in space, cutting off a blind kick forward and away from congestion."

Thats the description of Freemans weakness… Sounds a lot like matthew boyd…. and we all know how popular he is around here…

13. Zaine Cordy (Geelong Falcons) 191 cm 75 kg
Cordy is eligible to go to the Bulldogs as a father-son selection, much like his brother Ayce. He’s not so impressive statistically, but he’s shown some good signs so far throughout the year. In the two times he was named in the bests, Cordy didn’t have more than 11 touches in either game, so it’s more about how damaging he is. Cordy is a lanky swingman who goes between half forward and half back. Once he develops he could be an effective marking option around the ground. He’s more of a tall flanker than an under sized key position player at this stage. Cordy is a solid tackler, racking up six against Gippsland Power. He did not get the opportunity to play for Vic Country this year.

Zaine Cordy 2013 TAC Cup statistics

Disposal efficiency: 69%
Average marks: 2.7
Average uncontested marks: 2.3

there's a difference if he kicks to our players instead of the other team
if he has the solid kicking skills, him kicking outta packs and into the hands of our players he would be a handy player.

yep and if every player just kicked goals instead of kicking points they'd be a superstar… Point i was trying to make was bring a bit or realism back to this argument between Aish and Freeman. We can all sit here and claim apparently that Aish won't be effective at all yet this bloke who runs like dangerfield and kicks like boyd is apparently a far better option… when for the past 4 weeks i've been watching everyone on here complain about how disposal efficiency and "outside silk" is what we really need…
As a few of the baggers of boyd have mentioned throughout the year… who would you rather?
Matthew Boyd or Paul Chapman in their prime? Paul Chapman never had the high avg disposals either… but i think we would all agree for the most part he has always been more effective with his 15-20 disposals.

If you're in the bottom 25% in all bar the jumps in the athletic testing, that's not testing well. He may have got many pb's, but compared to everyone else he was very ordinary.

I am not saying freeman has no weaknesses. I accept that, he does have some elite qualities and it is not like he is not being considered fairly high by others

It seems our board refuses to consider alternatives. The thread should be renamed from draft discussion to Aish is our Ace. Any question about Aish is howled down with an unnatural level of emotion. And yet, the evidence I see does not support this lofty status. On that evidence, Gibbs is way classier, has a better side step, and uses it better. It is possible his highlights and his u18 champ performance don't do him justice but surely that should be of concern.

If against the best juniors he can not shine he is unlikely to shine in the AFL any time soon.

Perhaps, kolo, Sharenberg, freeman, bontempelli, Salem and billings are the next best options after Boyd, Kelly

I rate freeman because he breaks lines, he is in and under and outside he loves to carry the ball, he is explosive running out of a pack, he is not selfish and likes to link up, his short kicks are elite, he can kick it over 50 metres and he gut runs. He is something between Kerr and dangerfield's style. Philosophically, I have more confidence in this style

Not sure about that either.
There are so many variables in a game, the direct opponent, the quality of the opposing team, the importance of the game and the players role.
Averages over many games tell you something and important games against well matched opponents tell you more. But highlights with stats tell you fair bit.

In Aishs case he Averages 16 odd possessions in the SANFL and the u18 champs
He is consistent, and those are fair figures but not a 1 st round draft picks. And he played as an Outside mid in really good teams. Should be getting 25 plus in. U18s and 20 odd in the SANFL if he is to be so highly rated.

And his highlights are just not highlights - what is that about - he is just neat. Does he offer. Us anything more than what we will get with Darley for pick 78?

Seriously? There's no way you can expect Aish to average 25 in SANFL seniors. Sheed who is a big time ball accumulator didn't even average 16 disposals in WAFL seniors. It's hard getting the ball at that level when you're so young, and Aish isn't even 18 yet.

I don't, but he had the same average in under 18 champs what is the reason for that?
