I have been thinking about this for a few days now, I think we have the makings of an unbelievable side...time to be positive after being gutted after the last few weeks especially Saturday. Here's my take on the team/list moving forward.

I think it's a must we keep Bellchambers, hence I think Ryder should move back (play on the opposition key forward similar to Cloke last year), with Carlisle getting better, Fletch and Hardingham in the pockets to zone off (assuming Hardy can improve his disposal). Heppell and Browne off the HBFlanks.

Move Dempsey up to the wing where his run will be damaging, with Zaharakis on the other wing...Watson, Stanton and Myers also insert quality mid here (trading, FA etc) with TBell rucking.

Hurley, Crameri and Gumby the talls up forward rotating so we can use Crameri's run and after a full pre season we can utilise his tank. Winderlich on the flank with Davey our crumbling forward. I would play Joe D regardless and with his size he will trouble defenders deep in the 50!

Reimers on the bench rotating with Daniher, Hocking, Hibberd, Kavanagh/Melksham

B: Hardingham Carlisle Fletcher
HB: Heppell Ryder Browne
C: Zaharakis Watson Dempsey
HF: Crameri Hurley Winderlich
F: Davey Gumbleton Reimers
R: TBell Stanton Myers

B: Hocking, Hibberd, Daniher, Howlett
Emerg: Hooker, Kavanagh/Melksham?, Dyson?, Prismal?

That's an impressive spine, possibly too tall up forward, hopefully injuries will improve next year and I haven't really taken into account trading a quality mid either, but what's everyone's thoughts?

Sorry Monfries, Jetta, Pears, Lonergan but possible trade bait?

Thoughts?

Reimers comes out; Hibberd gets on the ground at the expense of Hardingham.

Probably Jetta in for the moment; but I wouldn't have a problem with recruiting another mid sized forward.

The start of this season showed we are on the right track. We have the core of a quality side but injuries, injuries, injuries derailed it by not only the injuries themselves, but the complete lack of continuity it brought in, plus due to the sheer volume of injuries it ensured we were probably bringing guys back that weren't ready/match fit or had to play guys that would normally be rested.

Right now I am putting blind faith in the fitness program and that 2013 will see an end to the soft tissue injuries and see us running out games for longer. It is in the clubs plans, they predicted some pain (but how much...???) so they deserve the chance to see it through.

If come late 2013 we are in the exact same situation I will be out for blood. For now though, sure I am disappointed but the 1st half of the season showed something to hang my hat on and remain calm about things.

At my wits end with Hardingham. I don't question his endeavour or spirit but he just turns it over too often

Could Hardy be tried up forward again? His leap would trouble a lot of defenders and he's a better set shot than field kicker.

I was actually thinking about this the other day. From memory he didn't do too badly. It's just that Cram did a lot better obviously.

I am not opposed to Ryder going back and TBC rucking all game. However is Ryder even that good as a back? I hardly remember him playing there. Serious question.

Ryder back? God no. Sheedy did that during his 2 years coaching Ryder and, in my opinion, completely stifled Ryder's growth as a player. (I loved Sheeds, but he got that one wrong IMO)

Ryder in the ruck, and switching down forward occasionally to give another option is when we look most dangerous.

And Hardingham has looked 100x times the player down back than he was as a forward. (not surprising seeing as he was drafted as a backman! Funny that...) I don't know why he's copping such a hard time lately on these boards. He saves our arses much more than he turns it over... and perhaps the only reason he's turning it over is because he's often the only one getting to the bloody ball.... only to look up and see a bunch of teammates lying around on beach chairs sipping margaritas.

Hardingham has been one of our better players throughout this slide we've had.

One thing I kind of agree with though - Winderlich and Reimers roaming the forward line would be 20x more dangerous than Jetta and Davey. (although I know you've still got Davey in there as well...)

Sheedy did play Ryder down back but they were in his first 2 years...look at how well he played on Cloke last year in the second Collingwood game.

Great, so play him down back on Cloke then. :)

I don't have any problems switching players to where they need to go depending on the circumstances/opposition. That's what I love about Hurley.... I just wish we'd move him down back a bit more than we do, but I guess that will come over the next few years as we get Gumby and Daniher (and Ryder) etc all as (hopefully effective) key forwards. (with Crameri grabbing anything they don't!) But moving Ryder permanently down back would be a waste in my opinion. He's too talented and creative a player to simply use as a tall defender. Yes, we're still waiting for Ryder to really make the next step as a player, but I think he's one of the few we have who is capable of doing it.

But it won't happen down back.

Not to mention that I don't even think Ryder enjoyed playing down back under Sheedy, did he?

As much as I love Hurls as a forward, his marking attempts tend to shit me. He gets spoiled more times than not, as for why exactly Im not sure.
So, he's a big bloke, moves well, and we all know he can kick, so how about a run in the midfield?
We (will) have the forwards available in Gumby, Ryder, Winders, Crameri and co.

At the start of the year I was Essend-ONE
Full of hope and fun
Rounds 1 to 9 was our time in the sun
then it came undone
that cold night against Melb-un!
Then we hardly won
So now I am Essen-DONE (for 2012!)

I really hope that we come good in 2013. Our motto is "Suaviter in Modo, Fortiter in Re". This translates as "Gentle in Manner, resolute in execution." We need to get that clinical superiority back into the place and pick off the opposition leaving their fans thinking WTF just happened?

The climb back up the ladder is long, slow and hard. Lets support the boys in 2013. But Marketing Department please NO ESSENDONE catchphrase. Think of something more inspirational dare I say it galvanising!

It's cause he tries to take everything on his chest. Except for when he runs under it in which case he makes an attempt to take it over his head.

alright, gonna throw up an idea, shoot me down if necessary, but what does everyone think of stew crameri the midfielder? would be an absolute nightmare matchup, and god knows we need some hardness in the midfield right about now
He's too important to our forward line but it would be interesting.
What about Nick O'Brien?

I like NOB, but from what i've seen (not a whole lot) I don't think he has the mongrel and pure strength that stew does.
Not saying full time mid, but as a burst player to smash some packs and use his bigger frame to impose himself, I think it could be good as a different look.
Plus it has the advantage of alleviating the tall forward log jam (for patches)

Would be a good option to pinch hit in there...how many times do you see 2-3 players tackle him and can still dish off a handball, would be great at the stoppages!

Reimers/Davey/Jetta are all on the same level of "meh" at the moment for me. I watch Davey's highlights from 2007 and wonder what could have been, he was my favourite player and every time he was even close to someone with the ball I would almost shit my pants with excitement at the pressure and tackles he would deal to the opposition. I still get that feeling when he's near it but now I know not to expect anything close to what he once could do. Once he got those injuries after 2007 he just wasn't the same. A fair chunk of this year was ****ing good from him though I must admit.

Winderlich - for sure, was legitamately saddened when I saw him go down during the Adelaide match.. Almost turned off the TV even though the game was great I just could not stand seeing him go down, after coming back and playing so well. The sadness for an injury could only be topped by seeing Gumby... I'm going to stop there.

Reimers - Would have him below both Davey and Jetta

Interested in no mention of Dellolio? Have people given up already?
