Something I find funny with the women is they don't split up across tournaments very much.

I know Tokyo is worth 2 million to the Chinese tournament 500k but for the women outside the top 30, you'd think a few more would look to go to China to win, rather than bow out early in Tokyo.

If there is a 500 and 250 on in the same week for the men, they will still get more of a spread.

I'm not quite sure how beating an ill player is 'fun.' Azarenka was really struggling to get out of a jog out there (funnily enough she had similar issues at the same tournament last year), but Venus was pretty solid for what you'd expect at this stage of her career.

Fun result for tennisforum anyways and gives the tournament a story if Venus can go deep. I'm well aware the Azarenka was no way near her best otherwise I wouldn't say ill.

Oh yeah, definitely. I'm not sure she'd be able to keep up this form for an entire tournament at this stage of her career though.

She really does hate lefties. Safarova especially. Would be interested in seeing Stosur's win percentage against left handers. I imagine it would be fairly low.

It's like she panics against these sort of players, she didn't hit the ball that badly the other day but there was no gameplan

Don't know what's happened with Azarenka, but these kinds of losses happen after the us open

Suarez Navarro brings the day's lols again, double bageled by Jankovic.

That is a great match up for Jankovic tho. Jelena struggles against players who can hit through her but against Suarez Navarro Jelena can just dictate play.

Jelena is having a pretty solid year has climbed up the rankings from no.23 to no.11. Two things have improved for jelena and tha is her serve has more power and her forehand is getting more depth on it. Her backhand is one of the best shots in the game.

She is still a dangerous player especially on clay but is a level behind Williams, Azeranka, Sharapova, Li and kivitova.

But by years end she will be in the top 10. More then likely ranked no.10.

Jelena Jankovic comes from a set down to defeat Lucie Safarova 6-7 6-4 6-4 in almost 3 hours. Jelena will now play the winner of Agnieska Radwanska or Angelique Kerber in tomorrow's semi Final.

Wasn't intended to have a go at JJ, it's just that Suarez Navarro can't remain consistent to save her life. On her best days she can beat almost anyone; on her worst she can't win matches against middle of the road players.

In the semi's at the china open Jelena Jankovic upset Petra Kivitova 6-7 6-1 6-1. Looks like Petra just fell apart in the last two sets. Apparently Petra just fatigued badly. Jelena seems to be playing her best tennis since 2008 when she reached no.1 in the world.

Jelena will now take in World No.1 Serena Williama who had no troubles in beat angnieska radwanska 6-2 6-2.

Think Serena will win but it will be a pretty close match then what most people think.

Jelena does play well against Serena. They have played 10 times before with Serena leading 6-4.

If Jelena Wins she goes upto 8 in the world but if she loses she goes up to 10. Serena if she wins or loses will stay no.1.

My prediction is Serena to win 6-2 4-6 6-3.

In the final In the china open Serena Williams easily dispatched of Jelena Jankovic 6-2 6-2. Both players were both injured during the match Serena had a lower back problem while jelena had a hip compliant. Did not seem to bother Serena.

Serena is so far ahead of the field at the moment it is hard to find any real challenges apart from a fit Victoria Azarenka who has defeated Serena twice this year but Victoria has had an injury plagued year and is struggling to win matches after the us open final loss.

Serena could go on to play for another 5 years the way she is playing and should easily get to 20 grand slam victories you would think. The only thing stopping her I would say is injuries.

So the top 10 rankings as of the 07-10-13

1. Serena Williams
2. Victoria Azarenka
3. Maria Sharapova
4. Agnieska Radwanska
5. Li Na
6. Sara Errani
7. Petra Kivitova
8. Jelena Jankovic
9. Caroline Wozniacki
10. Angelique Kerber

Sam Stosur won her first round match in Osaka def Johanna Larsson 6-4 6-2. She should really make the final as the draw ain't that strong especially with the late withdrawal yesterday of world no.8 jelena Jankovic after she played the final lady night in bejing. Her biggest threat is Sabine Lisicki who is ranked no.14 in the world. Very important tournament for Sam as if she does not win in Osaka she could be ranked outside the top 20 by years end. If Sam does win in Osaka she will then qualify for Sofia in Bulgaria as one of the highest ranked players who have one atleast 1 international tournament ($235,000) and will not be ranked inside the top 8 players playing in instanbul.
