According to the new changes in the 2014 season there will be weighting that decides which teams you play twice in one season. Greater weighting is given to teams in your bracket, which will consist of the top 6 teams at the end of this year, the middle 6 teams, and the bottom 6.

Each team can plays 5 double-up matches for the year. 3 double-up matches will come from your bracket. These teams will include:

Hawthorn
Geelong
Sydney
Richmond
Collingwood

One of our double-up matches will be taken by West Coast.

Personally I'd love to play Geelong twice as they are usually great games of footy. I would also like to play Hawthorn twice just so that we will at least play them once at Subi instead of that horrible place Tasmania.

Who are you eager to see as our other double-up matches?

Sydney because we do alright at the SCG and also about time they played us here.
Realistically wont play Collingwood twice if the afl can help it. Tbh don't wanna play in Launceston or Geelong as Hawthorn and Geelong are harder to beat there. No fears for finals in Melbourne though.
Having said that, I'd have to say Richmond
For the third one Collingwood just to see Eddie cry over both travelling to perth and secondly loss of revenue. :D :thumbsu:

Just on side note when was the last we played Hawthorn in Melbourne?

The game we lost at the MCG after leading Hawthorn by 28 points 12 minutes into the final qtr in 2011.
It was one of the worst coaching performances in history.

It actually hurt us not getting any of the other top 4 at home this year even if it was a double up. Play Geelong or Hawthorn last week at home and we could of been playing for 2nd spot. Of course we could end up with more losses but it increases our chances of getting a top 2 which really is a step up from a top 4 in my opinion.

To be the best you need to beat the best. Structures and stratagems being put to the test in grueling conditions against the best AFL can throw at us will only make us a better team. Bring it on, send the best and watch as they leave with their tails between their legs!!! :thumbsu:

Absolutely
That last quarter where centre bounce after centre bounce Griff hit it straight to Mundy, who had Lewis and about 3 other hawks players just sweating on him waiting to steal the ball away and boot it into their forward line, and we just kept doing it time after time, it was just terrible.

Hawks, Pies and Richmond. Minimum three chances to play at the MCG throughout the season. Sydney because they wouldn't know where Subi is and would get lost on the way will forfeit their points.

That's right but it wasn't Griffin. Grif had dominated Bailey all game but our coach thought it would be a novel idea to put Kepler into the ruck, explained later as trying to get kep into the game. Of course Griffin sat on the bench alongside Rhys palmer who was the sub while the debacle unfolded at centre bouncedowns.
While Kep was getting smashed in the ruck Zac Clarke was playing on the wing against Sam Mitchell. Needless to say who won that duel.
Palmer of course sat on the bench while Cyril was eating Grover but then when Rhys' turn came to try and save the game he was put in the forward Pocket where the ball wasn't going.
By the way Pavlich looked shitful playing in the back pocket however it must be said it was a novel idea.

But at any rate back to the topic, we would appreciate playing Hawks in Perth as one leg of a double encounter; Of course after winning a premiership, we would attract significant crowds which would be deserving of meeting them at the G.

I'd removed that game from memory successfully until then. Probably one of the worst experiences ive had as a freo fan. But honestly seems like we play Hawthorn in Launceston every single year.

We are not a crowd pulling team or more to the point haven't been until now.
heck even the Tassie Govt didn't want us.

After this season we're a different prospect. Our crowds in Melbourne have grown substantially already.

Great idea AFL :thumbsu:.

Although this draw would have been a nightmare in 2013 compared to our supersoft marshmallow draw. Imagine if we'd had to swap our second games against the Dees and St Kilda for home games against Sydney and Hawthorn. We could have potentially lost both games and finished as low as 4th. Luckily, we can ride the wave of softness waaaaaaay up to 3rd.

Hopefully GWS and Gold Coast can give us an extra hand on that one.

I'd say realistically we should be playing there every second year as it should be rotated amongst the non victorian sides, except probably Sydney because of their large Melbourne fanbase.,

On another note. Anywhere, Any Time. If these two teams I was talking about weren't the best two teams in the league ATM wed probably beat them anyway so it'd be somewhat of a non issue. The challenge is to beat these teams, starting with next month.

Heh. I said something almost identical a day or two ago... somewhere.
Let our actual losses stand, swap three of the home wins for Hawthorn, Sydney and Geelong at Subi and we would have had to win only one of them to stay in the top 4 (although it would have come down to %).

I'd love to play return games against those three (and the Eagles). We'd be gunning for top two next year if the relative team strengths remain as they are... which they won't.

So my picks would be Richmond, West Coast, Port, Hawthorn, and Geelong.
All should be some good games next year, all things remaining equal. Apart from the Eagles... % booster with any luck.

Almost agree with you. I definitely want Sydney at Subiaco and I think the Eagles twice a year is getting close to a yawn.

I have this argument occasionally on the main board. They seem to forget there are two teams in WA and the AFL try to limit the amount of times some of those teams travel to Perth.

You can imagine the tears when Freo and WC finish top six and Hawthorn, Geelong, Sydney or god forbid, Collingwood have to travel to Perth twice in one season.

They should have 2 conferences, 9 in each. Play other teams in your conference twice (16) then 6 other games (rotated) against the other conference. Solved.

Western Conference

Fremantle
West Coast
Adelaide
Port Adelaide
Western Bulldogs
North Melbourne
Carlton
Geelong
Essendon

Eastern Conference

Brisbane
Gold Coast
Sydney
Greater Western Sydney
Hawthorn
Richmond
Melbourne
St Kilda
Collingwood

It'll be loose at most. Maybe two games of the three. No way will the AFL disallow Collingwood, Essendon, Richmond, Carlton not to play each other twice. Those games are fun for everyone and pocket-lining for the AFL. Just as the Derby and Showdown and Sydney Scrap are.

The Yarra would overflow.

So I just read about this in more detail, this means if the eagles lose on saturday they'll stay 13th and possibly have 3 double ups against gws, melbourne and the like.
Seems they will still get something out of their season then

I like the idea of a Conference system and I have used the AFL Player Ratings formula that ensures both divisions are equally strong as each other:

Conference A

Adelaide
Brisbane
Fremantle
Gold Coast
GWS
Melbourne
St Kilda
West Coast
Western Bulldogs

Conference B

Carlton
Collingwood
Essendon
Geelong
Hawthorn
North Melbourne
Port Adelaide
Richmond
Sydney

This conference system will be completely overhauled in 4 years time when GC and GWS come good.

Conference B is a fair bit stronger than conference A (7 out the current top 8 are in there). You'd need some kind of equalisation policy to shuffle teams between the conferences every season. Maybe the top 2 teams and the bottom 2 teams from each conference swap every season?

I'd like to see the AFL go to a 3 conference system (6 teams in each), so they play their own conference twice (10 games + 2 byes) and each other conference once (12 games) giving a 24 game season with 2 byes (about 1/3 and 2/3 of the way through the regular season).

Have the top 2 from each conference automatically in the finals, and 2 wildcard entries (the most games won of the remaining clubs across all conferences).

Coming top 6 we get a maximum of one double up against the teams ranked 13-18. So does this mean if West Coast lose this weekend they take our only double up of the teams ranked 13-18 next year? That would suck
