I think we should offer Hawthorn pick 27 for Schoenmakers. We need a KPP and it's a better option than getting Lonergan from Geelong, who we would need to pay more money. Schoenmakers will be 24 at the start of next season, compared to Lonergan whose 30.

Welcome.

In my view Shoemakers is not a 2nd rounder, pick 4-5 maybe (60-90).... for our current circumstances. He got smashed by our T2 forwards in the VFL. We have money to burn at the moment.

I'd throw in Duggan to, I think he is a little underrated to be honest

I would have had Ellis up there but he just doesn't win the contests at all

Laverde definitely has a lot of flair, but hasn't played a massive amount in just the midfield
big bodied and fast though
Laverde would be the pick.

So Dogs fans - even if you were to secure McCartin or Wright with your current first pick, would you otherwise prefer a swap of Griffin for Tom Boyd and a mishmash of later picks to get the job done? Boyd will be the best CHF in the league within 4 years IMO. So use your current pick 6 to top up as per expected, but move heaven and earth to make this loss of Griffin bear fruit by nailing Boyd with whatever deal it takes. I'm thinking that just getting angry with GWS won't make them blink. You still may have to pay slightly overs to get your prize. But none of that would matter in a few years when you have your finest CHF since Chris Grant heading up your forward line!
As it is, you have already received a third round pick bonus when nobody bid on Cordy in the father/son session.

Just go get Boyd ffs!! Perhaps the club should have Mitch Honeychurch on the phone to his old Eastern Ranges team mate urging him to get interested too.

Agreed. I asked this question in the list management thread. Would you offer Boyd a Tom Scully type contract?? To answer my own question, I would definitely. We have a mountain of cap space left and I think it's a risk worth taking. He's been described as a once in generation type of player, a level above Wright and McCartin. If we can't get Cameron, let's go hard after Boyd.

Maybe

Depends all on his character, at this stage

Lever seems absolutely perfect; based off his character/etc

Definitely would love more flair to
I don't consider Lever a midfielder. But yes, he is what we want in spades, I was hoping pick 6 for him and 7 Laverde.

I didn't get the chance to come on BF yesterday. Now i don't know which of the 2,894 posts or 76 pages to start with :D

TLDR : Griffen shocked the crap out of everyone and requested a trade to GWS. Doggies want 4+ star player, will probably get 4+7

Thanks mate. That was the one bit of general news i did get a whisper about ! ;)

You get greedy this time of year, especially when this sort of crap happens. You probably see Weller being at 7 or one pick after. F/it. I want pick 8 too now for:

4 - Wright
6 - Lever
7 - Laverde/Weller
*8 - Weller/Laverde

Weller would be a great get at pick 7 now to replace Griff, could become a very good mid for us. Grab Wright / McCartin with pick 4 and BPA at pick 6.

Thinking if we do end up with 4, 6 and 7 we just load up on kpps and go Wright (second best kpf imo), Lever (best kpd imo) and Durdin (best swing man imo) we fix our spine in one draft, the reason I say this is I figure we are going to have a top 3 pick next year were it looks like there is going to be a bunch of gun mids and we can add a Parish or Mathieson to our already gun midfield of Libba, Macrae and Bonts.

This is a man with a plan... Although we have father sons next year that are mids. So, I think KPP this year as a must, regardless of next years awesome 2 midfield guns!

Really afraid that what we look for in draftees will change now Macca is gone..
I'm hoping he had less of an influence on those drafting decisions than i think he did.

I'd say that he's had a massive hand in the no dickheads policy.

If you can convince Greenwood to come to the dogs, I would be more than happy with that trade. We need Greenwood and experience more than ever.
We have a very good player who wants to leave and you are in need of exactly that, plus you will have more decent draft picks than you know what yo do with... Plus Cooney will have no chance at getting tagged with us so might add something....

I agree mate Greenwood obviously wants out and Collingwood are obviously going to go about trading in the wrong way. I highly approve of such a trade as we need some mid career players with experience. Griffen has thrown an even bigger hole in our list and I like how greenwood goes about it. Say pick 26 or 27 + Cooney I would be fine with. Greenwood alone for his great season deserves a pick around 18 - 22 so I am more than happy to accomodate such a trade.

So. Dalrymple is out from under Bmacs thumb for this draft... probably the most picks he will get to play with with.

BMAc wants bookends and big mids.

Dalrymple wants 'best available'.

09 and 10 drafts -- without bmacs -- were pretty bad except for the mandatory father sons.

This is my biggest concern as well. We're about to find out how much say Macca had in the recruitment process. Unfortunately, I think that may have been a lot.

hopefully some of it has rubbed off on the recruiters at the club

a new coach might not be appointed by the draft either, but drafts onwards could be one focusing more on needs rather then best available depending on the kind of coach we get ..

We have to have a coach in place before then, in fact before the players are due back for training I would have thought...
