What do you think of the rumor of Webb at one of our first two second round picks?

like I said to doggies, maybe he could play some HBF; depends who we get at the other picks
I'm sure Dal will want all the players to compliment one another

and yup, even get some developing talls; because they take longer

I think if we take Webb we will double up on mids at our second rounders and use our end of second round and thirds on a genuine small forward and talls like Payne, Nielson, Kietel, etc ones that complement what we already have.

Something like

L. Webb (KICKING)
D. McKenzie/C. Menadue (SPEED)
T. McLean (X Factor small forward)
D. Nielson (BACKLINE GENERAL/ATHLETIC DEFENDER)
B. Payne (LEADING CHF)

Maybe Webb is our back up if we miss out on EVW, Menadue if we miss out on McKenzie

hopefully someone like McDonald slides, there are only 3 live picks between our 39 and 45/46
so I don't think there would be too much worry if a player wasn't going to be there at the picks after that, which is good

Something like this would be good for us

L. Webb (KICKING)/E. Vickers-Willis (TALL UTILITY)
D. McKenzie/C. Menadue (SPEED)
T. McLean (X Factor small forward)
D. Nielson (BACKLINE GENERAL/ATHLETIC DEFENDER)
B. Payne (LEADING CHF)

I do like Nielson, I wonder how much taller he could grow

haven't really been any rumors I've seen about McLean, I still hope DVR is there at 39
even if Twoomey rates him higher

Payne might even make the rookie draft; is very slenderly built

McLean could go higher he is bolting quite hard. As for Payne I think there is a chance of him getting to the rookie draft but I feel as if we need one more KPF on our list that would complement Boyd and that is Payne think with the way our young guys have been putting on muscle over the last few years his lightness wouldn't be a problem for long. If there is even the slightest hint of him being a very good player we would have been on it as soon as he was playing at Bacchus Marsh at junior level .

An athletic key forward would compliment Boyd best, one preferably with a good engine

McLean might go in between 26 and 39

Do we really need EVW given we just got Zaine Cordy? Similar size - shut down defenders.

I also unfortunately reckon R.McKenzie will slide and we wont select him in our 20's.

Would love O.McDonald and one of Menadue/D.McKenzie

Hence why I have Payne there he is the most natural of all the KPF's in this draft to play that position. He might take a little bit of time but we'll be all the better for it. We just need to get Rainbow at 39 if McLean doesn't slide aye

Fun hypothetical: If Petracca or McCartin severely broke their leg on the way to the draft function on Thursday (not that I wish any such fate upon any draftee, or anyone for that matter), would they still go top 3?

Yes. Petracca a freak midfielder.
McCartin easily best KF in draft.

Look at it this way, what has Cordy done as yet? We still have a major need for versatile mid/talls.

Can EVW play mid?
He's played mainly down back but there's no reason he can't transition to the MF in the future with his skill set and improved endurance.

Fair enough. I was just under the impression he was a defender only and could play tall and small which I feel Cordy can too.

Over heard our recruiting guru this morning. He reported with a grin that he hopes no one expects him to come up with another Bont this time around.:(
Got a feeling he has pictures all over his wall at home of the great young kid.

Said some interesting things , Macca was a fantastic bloke and very sad to see him go.
But also said he needed some experienced help .

I think EVW is capable of playing midfield. He has played shut down roles on the likes of McCartin and then done jobs on the likes of Petraca. He's a bit like bont I think just not as classy and more at home in defence than forward. I think he'd be a great pick up. I also like Lamb who is also Bontesk. One or the other would be nice.

I remember reading a comparison early on in the year of EVW been a lot like Macrae, because he runs hard both ways

and this was before Macca made the comments about him, heh

The grin makes me think he is foxing and has an ace up his sleeve, I therefore expect nothing less than a player the quality of Bont at both Picks 27 and 28.

Caleb Daniel and Jack Lonie rated 16 and 17 in the draft based on champion data. I think these two will be a bargain for whoever gets them late.
Daniel is a gun, we should have him in our thoughts with picks 39, 45 or 46. Sure he's small but what a great player. He may last to the rookie draft but I wouldn't take the risk. He should be there at 45.

I agree with this. We also have enough height through the middle (Bonti, Macrae, Stevens), to cover a few shorties.

Can't have too many good players no matter what size. Size doesn't stop Harvey, didn't stop Tony Liberatore, if you are good you are good. He has more tricks than Tony ever did.
