People seem to be writing of Wright ( thats awkward phrasing ) because they don't think a guy that size is likely to make it as a forward.
He's a handy bit taller than Petrie. ( like the difference between Simpkin and Delaney ).
Meanwhile I'm a bit concerned about McCartin's accuracy in front of goal.

Accuracy can be fixed a bit I think. Guys like Hawkins and Tippett used to spray them all over the place but are pretty reliable now.

I'm not worried about that at all. He is only 2cm taller than Boyd and I don't there are too many thinking he isn't going to make it forward and there is plenty of talk that Joe Daniher is now around the 203cm mark and I don't think they'll trade him to us for our 4th rounder, because he's not going to make it forward. He's also only 2cm taller than Tippett and I don't think he's on a mil per year just for his looks. Paul Salmon killed it up forward before he was even 20yo and he was apparently 206cm (back when 206cm was like 211 is now, if not more).

He looks to me to be a 10cm+ taller version of Adelaide's Tom Lynch (who also uses his huge tank to roam far and wide for marks) and that 10cm extra will allow him to be much more of a threat inside 50 than Lynch is. Plus he is also a much better and longer kick for goal, apparently. Not to mention that he can play in the ruck!

If GWS think they're going to lose either of Boyd or Patton next year and Petracca gets taken before their pick this year I reckon they could be all over Wright with their first pick.

7.5 according to Brett Anderson

Would be great to get a written account of his performance from someone that was at the game.

E: Apparently Paddy is on the newest TAC Cup Future stars along with their mock draft. I haven't watched it all yet.

E2: Paddy interview and footage starting at 21min 58sec in.
Footage of Petracca starting at 26min 40sec. Phantom draft at 28 min 30sec.

Interesting that my man Ahern is now being talked up as going as high as 6! Looks like we may not be getting him with our 2nd rounder after all! :(

Also note that Shifter said on TAC Cup FS that Brayshaw tests at about a 2.82sec for the 20m sprint, which is seriously quick and that he has a big tank as well, so he sounds about as rounded as you get for someone who plays on ball (given that they reckon he also gets his own ball and is as dual-sided as you get). Basically Sam Mitchell with major speed, by the sounds of it.

I'd take Petracca above Aish, Billings, Bonters and Kelly anyday
I'd take Billings, Aish and particularly Kelly so far ahead of Petracca it's not funny. Jack was a real goal kicking, match winning machine for Metro, Aish as silky as they come with senior experience and Kelly in a class of his own in terms of running ability.

You make it sound like Petracca is chopped liver, when he's tipped to go top 2 in his draft, is dominating games of footy in a position/role he's pretty new at and has just won the Larke medal. o_O

For one thing, Aish and Kelly are both mainly outside types, are they not and that works well in the H&A season, but how about in finals, when the whips are cracking and it's all about contested ball, especially if you're playing a team like Sydney, who look like playing finals for the forseeable future?

As for Jack for Vic Metro, he averaged 12 possessions and two goals per game in the champs last year. How does that compare to Petracca's games for the same team this year, which as I said, resulted in him winning the Larke Medal, for being the best of everyone from any team? Jack did play a really good game the year before for VM as well, but conversely Petracca tore a team to shreds in a TAC Cup final last year, which I think evens that out.

ARR and others reading this thread, apologies if I made Petracca seem like chopped liver, he's a very good footballer and is currently ranked #1 for mine in this draft. The point I'm trying to make is that he would not be top 3 in the last couple of years. In 2012, Jaeger O'Meara, Lachie Whitfield and Brad Crouch would have been top 3 selections, and I would take any of them at #1 this year. In 2013, it would have been Jack Martin with Boyd & Hogan, and all of those players are a class above.

As for the Aish-Kelly-Billings comment, I rated Aish extremely highly, all 3 of them possess innate class. Kelly is an underrated inside ball winner and won't have to win much hard ball in a stacked GWS midfield. Jack Billings is a much better kick than Petracca, even though he doesn't have the same contested ability. Finals footy is as much about the damage you do on the outside as it is the amount of hard footy you can win, see Brad Hill, Cyril Rioli & Isaac Smith for the Hawks or Stephen Hill and Danyle Pearce for Freo.

I actually think that our engine room is going to be okay. What terrifies me from this year is our lack of effective outside mids. Is Petracca outside or inside? I get the impression inside, which doesn't massively excite me.

Having said that, I get the distinct impression that Pelchen is always committed to drafting best available, and then using the trade table to trim the fat if there's an excess of players in a particular role (see McEvoy).

Inside IMO, but with a burst of pace, agility and body strength to burst out of and away from packs. He's as good as we're getting - from the Draft at least - as there is this year.

Interesting statement Knightmare made on the talls in his phantom draft thread.
I hope he doesn't mind me copying it here.

Wright and McCartin are of similar ability to those other recent key forwards.

McCartin is on a similar level to Hogan. He's just someone who plays deeper with Hogan more a centre half forward.

Wright isn't far behind Boyd and Patton. Not quiet as accomplished up forward given he's had to split minutes between ruck and forward but he's not all that far behind.

Jeremy Cameron is the best young key forward in the game in my view and Boyd and Patton would be in my mind those next two in equal second place with Patton only that bit more advanced given his marginally more advanced age.

Wright, Hogan and McCartin all have the scope to become top 10 key forwards in the competition but not top 3 as I see for the others.

I agree, I hope we can get a decent outside mid for our second pick. I really like the sound of Laverde but we'd need to pick up another first rounder to get him.
