I would be looking at some forwards like Schoenmakers-( he played forward against us and did well) and Mc carthy and Stewart from GWS. Both are already developed some what and would come cheaper than the names mentioned so far.

McCarthy was only drafted last year so won't be that much developed, and the KPP around 2nd round this year might be better. Stewart could be interesting, Collingwood F/S reject.

Still very very light. Started the season at 88kgs; if we think Spencer is too light then Stewart ain't any better.

Wouldn't say no to Old Xavs' Brendan Goss (watch The Recruit).

Seriously elusive half forward, beautiful kick, can take a hanger. I'll be interested to see how he goes on the show.

Daniel Johncock was the one who interested me but not sure he remains in the show. Looked pretty impressive, being in the final 12 might boost the draft chances for some of those guys despite only one being guaranteed a spot.

Played footy and cricket with him. Seriously good player but don't know if he would have the body for AFL

'Spose that's what the show is for, and if he got into an elite system he would get shaped up pretty quickly.

'Elite kick' piqued my interest, and clearly fit as all get out... But came across as a solid gold knob, whereas Goss came across as a bit lazy and a touch of a smartarse.

One's fixable if he wants it, the other isn't.

Take the best player whoever it is, don't pick for needs, it will cost us in the long term.
First round pick Petracca
Second round pick De Goey, Laverde, Dear or Ahern.

People always say that, but how do you judge.
How do you decide if a ruckman is better than a full back or a midfielder or a full forward.
There's also supply and demand.
How many "good" big guys are there, because you need one and there isn't always one in the draft ( ask Ross Lyon, or ask Rodney Eade)

Good point, but who would you prefer, Gary Ablett Junior or Jack Reiwoldt. That's the equivalent of what we are talking, and we don't need a ruck man.
With Lenny retiring, Billings only young along with Dunstan, we need Petracca, superstar of Under 18 footy, daylight second.

GA Jr was always going to be father/son, but I don't remember him being rated as the hottest talent that year either.

I'm still not surprised that the guy 15 kg heavier than the rest is good at shoving the skinny kids out of the way to get the ball.

You could say that about the bloke 15cms taller than everyone else taking marks or the 100Kg full forward beating players one on one. IMHO Bottom line is I think it's McCartin or Petracca for us, I'll happily take either after our last 10 years of barren picks. We are debating the elite, so it's a fun thing!!!

Yeah, I'm very confident in Bains and the boys, so whoever they decide, and whoever they decline, I trust their judgement. They'll have good reasons.
I'm a bit concerned that if we don't get a tall this draft, there aren't many on the radar for next year.

If we don't go tall with our first I'm sure one of the other prospects will slide to our 2nd pick, Keitel has been talked about around our 2nd pick area.

Given the saints ladder position it seems as though all saints have now turned their attention to the draft and everyone seems to have an opinion.
Given their seems to a fair amount of variations in everyone's opinion I thought it might be an idea to make a list of potential draftees (realistic ones, not getting petracca pick 1 and mccartin 21) for each of our first 4 picks. No ridiculous trades or anything like that... just our first four picks as they stand today and a list of who everyone wants for each picks. I ill get us started and happy to add everyone's input:

Pick 1 - mccartin, petracca, wright

pick 21 - ahern (may be a stretch - happy to take opinion if any chance here), Weller, Lamb, Wigg, Bampton, Kietel, Duggan, Steele

pick 39 - Miller, Gore, Johansen, McKenzie, lonie, neal-bullen

pick 57 - daniels, rose, webb, cunico, gregson, grace

I wonder what more Sandy's Taylor Grace has to do to get a shot; a 184cm midfielder, he was overlooked last year despite the Dragons' best and fairest and is playing for the Dragons this year as an overager.

He averages 31.4 touches, 6.5 marks, 12.25 handball receives and 0.6 goals per game, with two 40plus possession games and including a 10 tackle game. Up from averages of 22.8 possessions and 4.3 marks last year.

Impressive numbers by anyone's reckoning. Pelch loves a left-footer after all...

Is it worth considering Jack Steele at #21, despite being a GWS academy player?

From http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-10-20/jack-steele
"Medium forward/midfielder that suffered a knee injury in the middle of the year. Has exceptionally clean hands and rarely fumbles, makes smart decisions and is composed under pressure. A strong overhead mark makes him a threat in the air however his clearance work is also very good, it’s for this reason he can prove a very difficult opponent to match up on."

At least we know what his career will be if footy doesn't take...
