Trade Alert -

Tender Warriors get - Jamie MacMillan, Pick 14 and Pick 54

Team LWP gets - Taylor Duryea, Jason Johannisen and Pick 23

Was a really easy deal to get done. TW knew I was still looking for backs and this fell into place pretty quickly.

Johannisen looks like getting more of a run with Higgins leaving and he could potentially push up the ground with Griffen and Cooney also leaving.

Duryea will hopefully cement a spot in the Hawks 22 but the guy most likely to take his spot, Angus Litherland, is already on my list.

TW gets a high production mid/hb and moves up the draft order. He obviously has a target in mind ;)

Confirmed. Trading 2 for 1 is always a bit risky, especially with both Johannisen and Duryea having the potential that they do - and the competition at North amongst their back flankers to get a game. With that all in mind, I see MacMillan as a bit more of a sure thing, who was due for a breakout season in 2014 before injury struck, and appears to be a real on-field general in the back half. The pick swap off-sets the risk slightly, but I will be watching closely how this all transpires.

i think my trading is just about done.

Unless someone wants one of

T.West
A.Carrazzo
T.Hunt
Cameron Ellis-Yolmen
Or some other unrealistic players like shaw, chaplin, gwilt, pederson or trengrove lol

Haha. I thought that about 3 trades ago after I traded in Shiel and Buckley... and then Jordie_tackles joined the league! :)

Since then I've traded in McDonald, Breust, Wallis, Smith, Hrovat, Mullett, Heppell, Pick 13, Pick 34 and Pick 35! Damn, when I see it like that it's a bit of a worry really.

And to put it in perspective.. To get that bounty I've traded out: Shuey, Jay Kennedy-Harris, Daniher, Thurlow, Russell, Ellis, Sutcliffe, Boston, Pick 1 and Pick 8 :drunk:

I would say all daniher/ellis/shuey are best 22. If anything i would say he has slightly downgraded his top end and brought in better depth players

We all see things differently.

Heppell, Smith, Breust, McDonald, I think make for a stronger 'best 22' here and now, but if we all saw things the same and valued everything equally we would never get any trades done :)

I'll have to wait and see how things pan out. Daniher, Ellis and Shuey were all definitely best 22 for this season in my thinking. Sutcliffe and Thurlow I expected I'd use at points in the season and that in the event of injury or them breaking out that they'd end up best 22. And then there's always the chance that the sort of player that you get with pick 1 ends up breaking straight into your best 22.

The breakdown on the balance would be this (and I haven't given an explanation on the 3 way trade yet so this will cover that too):

McDonald for Pick 1: McDonald is more of a sure thing IMO. There's no telling really how whoever I took at pick 1 would've gone at AFL level whereas McDonald hasn't just shown he can cut it, the signs are there that he'll be a strong fantasy contributor.

Shuey, JKH and Pick 8 for Breust, Wallis and Pick 13: I've got strong depth through the middle so it made sense to trade out a premium midfield option for a premium forward option. JKH was depth for me (as I expect Wallis will be) but there's a good chance that Wallis with Griffen, Cooney and Higgins leaving (and Beveridge as coach) gets thrown back on the ball and becomes fantasy relevant again. JKH I expect will break out in time too but even then it's likely I've got other options ahead of him. Pick 8 for Pick 13 at the time I thought wouldn't be a significant downgrade given who I was planning on taking at pick 8 (reaching for a player that I thought would've been available at pick 13 anyway). I have my doubts now that he'll even be available at pick 8 but regardless I'm happy with my shortlist for pick 13.

Daniher, Thurlow and Russell for Smith, Hrovat and Mullett: Long term this could burn me but then if I remain focused on the categories I was targeting then I think I'm ahead (similarly, TW is ahead given his target categories). Basically with this one I'll just keep an eye on the balance of the statistics. Hrovat provides a nice option for this season as an extra forward. Smith I rate as a special unit. Mullett is just there as a reliable depth option and should play most games if I'm missing a defender I consider best 22. Smith and Hrovat both give me stats I want versus Daniher and Thurlow (Thurlow not so much).

Ellis, Sutcliffe and Boston for Heppell, Pick 34 and Pick 35: Yeah, a load of depth walked out the door. Ellis is clear best 22 but Heppell I think is an upgrade. Losing Sutcliffe hurts but I'm hopeful I'll cover the gap and find suitable replacements down the track. Boston (and Russell in the previous trade) both have really high ceilings but in terms of where they fit in on my list they're probably behind other depth like Caddy, Langford and Martin (unless they have huge breakouts). Still have to do some research on the draft (as I hadn't really looked beyond the first 15 picks this season) but if I can get one of those two picks right then I think I'm in a good place.

TLDR? Trades work as far as I'm concerned, time will tell as per usual :)

So for me then lol

INS:

A. Cordy, K. Jack, A. Sandilands, J. Hannath, L. Shuey, J. Kennedy (SYD), J. Gibson, M.Stokes, J. Westhoff, M. Boyd, D. Hale

OUTS:

R. Sloane, J. Green, S. Kerridge, M. King, Pick 41, Pick 13, Pick 27, L. Breust, M.Wallis, P. Ambrose

Pretty happy getting 6 of 'Maroons' best 22 to add some short term quality and go one better this season. I thought I was going to struggle to find a relevant ruckman but managed to get 2. Plus another 2 as backup. If Minson misses I have Cordy, if big 211 misses then Hannath is half a chance.

I have one point of concern for this season but I wont share that lol. Looking ahead though in 2/3 seasons I will be hit with a massive amount of retirements.

I have 15 players over 30
7 at 28+ and quite a few 27 year olds

And dont worry league, I'm not planning on doing a runner in 3 seasons lol

What I like from you Zim is that you have gone hard in topping up for a flag.

Some people would've taken your list and traded for young players and picks but you have brought in MORE senior citizens and are basically going all out for a flag in the next 2 years.

Love the ambition!!!

Rockford ouch mullett out for 4 months

Yeah, was just talking to TW about it. He'd messaged me earlier that he was revising his tactics and might be happy getting Mullett back from me. I messaged him asking him who he wanted to trade and then visited the AFL site. So that's the end of that ;)

Wasn't counting on him for best 22 but it'll hurt my depth for sure. Was counting on him along with Buckley, Laird and Golby to a degree to provide my depth. With letting Sutcliffe go I may be back in the same boat as I was last season come Finals (playing a man down in defense) :/

Hopefully, a shoulder in a contact sport like this normally needs a fair while to heal. That coupled with him missing the preseason, he might find himself on the outer when he does come back. Hopefully not, will wait and see.

All good Rockford.

Only has to get back in front of Atley, Wright, MacMillan, Higgins, Dal Santo, McDonald and Adams as a half back option in the best 22.

He is right there with McKenzie and Dumont as first cab off the rank come the bye ;)

It will be interesting to see how North use those players. i suspect Higgins and Dal Santo will play further up the ground.
