Preview 2014 Predictions

Start the season 1-4 like last year and we'll finish around the same place... start well and who knows. We are very much a confidence team.

Looking at the fixture, if we are worse than 4-1 after 5 rounds I would be very disappointed.

Last year we underperformed against expectations to a huge degree, this year I think we will overperform against expectations, possibly by a lot. Personally think finals appearance should be the minimum target for the year, and top 4 is a possibility.

West Coast 2014
Position - 1st (22-0) in my mind we can win every game, counting for times i get it wrong = 6th (14 wins, 8 losses)
Club Champion - Chris Masten;
Runner Up - Luke Shuey;
Leading Goal kicker - Josh Kennedy - 74;
Leading Brownlow votes - Nic Naitanui - 23;
Best win - other than the grand final, Round 10 against Collingwood away. I think it will be close but beating an average-above average team at the G will be a a big deal for the team. This and the carlton game in round 6 are big for our season early on IMO.
Biggest win though will be St Kilda Rd 3 at home. ;
Worst loss - Round 16 v Sydney come in with high hopes and have them smashed (Sydney that is lel.)
Games from Xavier Ellis - 17;
Surprise Player of the year - Andrew Gaff - will start proving the haters that he is more than an outside player and he isn't soft. Not that he has to prove it to them, they will just notice that he does that. ;
Disappointing Player of the year - Matthew Priddis/ Will Schofield (again)

I don't think it's silly, the core of our 2011 & 2012 side is still there, some have improved and all have more experience. I think injuries played a massive part in our terrible season last year, at least for the first half, then all the stuff with Woosh started to drag out and players started to lose the hunger, throw in a few more injuries, season gone. A fully fit, Nicnat, Shuey, Wellingham & lecras will make a massive difference, especially of Nic can play most games, it's takes a huge load off Cox allowing him to play more as he did in 2012, forward and second ruck. Maybe I am being overly optimistic, but I can see us having a very good year if we have a bit of luck along the way!
I completely agree. Who ever the bulk of the group that made 2011-12 possible is still there. Our current game plan based on these last two games looks to be extremely effective, and the players seem to be adapting quite well. Hopefully we will all be happy little eagles this year :thumbsu:

Leading Brownlow votes
- Priddis - 15 - He will be our leading vote getter and 15 will be close to the mark (maybe a little more)
Best win
- If this means biggest win then Saints, if it is most important win it will be in the first week of the finals - Biggest win was 111 against GWS though our biggest win (slim pickings) was probably the one against Adelaide in Adelaide
Worst loss
- Against Freo - Was against Cats, we actually where quite good against the Dockers even though we lost
Dom Sheed games as sub - 4 - Not going to count, but this would have to be close
Games from Xavier Ellis
- 15 - Played 17 :thumbsu:
Surprise Player of the year - Gaff will return to 2012 form - midseason this statement was way off, but finished the season really well
Disappointing Player of the year
- Hill - I think he was our most disappointing player along with Cox and Wellingham, but his last few weeks may save him from being delisted

Players who make their AFL debut - Shred, Bennell - Yes and yes, plus a couple of others
Percentage of time spent by Darling in midfield
- 10% - Seems about right
Percentage of time spent by Yeo in midfield
- 15% - Not sure exactly what it was - 30-40%?
Number of games for Naitanui
- 18 - Played 20 - Probably should have only played 18!
AA squad members
- If this is the Top 40 - Masten, Kennedy and McKenzie - McKenzie a certainty to get Top 40, Priddis likely. Of the other two I picked Kennedy would make the Top 50-60 and Masten is no chance.

AA squad members - Kennedy, Mackenzie, Darling

Finished 9th. Unfortunate but correct in all but the win/ loss ratio.

Shame Kennedy didn't find consistency, especially through the middle of the year. Still 61 goals is a pretty good return just came too heavily against weaker sides.

Shuey will probably be pipped by Priddis, but he has more standout features that attract votes. We'll see.

No surprise Geelong got a hold of us, just our least favorite team to play.

Xavier played 17, not 18. Pretty close.

Sharrod Wellingham performed poorly, not surprised.

Dean Cox fell away poorly this year. Was average last year so i expected some rebound.

Yeo and Darling, minutes seem fair. Darling is back playing more forward by seasons end, while Yeo is going to be making that transition.

McInness didn't debut. Which is poor on his account.

Naitanui played more than i expected. By a game.

Mackenzie will make the final cut. Probably nobody else.

West Coast 2014
Position
- 1st (22-0) in my mind we can win every game, counting for times i get it wrong = 6th (14 wins, 8 losses)
Club Champion - Chris Masten; monster drop off from last year
Runner Up - Luke Shuey; Would have gone close to winning it if he played the whole season like he did the last 8 weeks
Leading Goal kicker - Josh Kennedy - 74; possibly could have got closer if he had the delivery like he did in the last third of the year
Leading Brownlow votes
- Nic Naitanui - 23; no chance

Biggest win though will be St Kilda Rd 3 at home. ; wasn't wrong with Carlton game being massive. So wrong saying Collingwood were above average.
Worst loss - Round 16 v Sydney come in with high hopes and have them smashed (Sydney that is lel.)

Disappointing Player of the year - Matthew Priddis - in my eyes he always is/ Will Schofield still not at his 11-12 form but he showed signs (again)
