Had to be started, now Drafts are done,

Who do we like?

MCrouch
Boyd
Kelly
Billings
Scharenberg
Aish
Gartlett
Dumont
Hartung
Kennedy Harris
Willsmore ;)

Who else is worthwhile considering, at this point in time?

Maybe Matt Fuller - 23yo recruit from Norwood taken by Dogs with pick 42. Haven't seen him play, but he's meant to have a thumping kick and uses the ball well in defence. Not sure if he'll be ahead of Brett Goodes, but mature age recruits are always worth serious consideration :thumbsu:

Taylor has the talent to come in and make an impact, watch him closely.

Fuller, like Werewolf said, could be one, but otherwise avoid the Dogs draftees Honey and Bontempelli, don't get sucked in by any positive media about them, they won't play much and won't score that well this year.

Also, the O'Meara of 2014 - Jack Martin (GCS),

Jesse Hogan (Melb) should also come into consideration, even though as a fwd, he should play a fair bit (although fwd scoring, especially rookies, can be hit & miss + playing for Dees)

Both should be at a good price too, considering JOM & BCrouch were both intially $115k, IIRC

Luke McDonald should see plenty of game time too, but will be at that awkward price of $150K+.

That being said, should be able to get to 350k-400k you would think with enough game & possies, so should make good coin overall,

Salem, McDonald, Martin are the three I'm just about locking in.

Matt Crouch too if he's named round one.

Mcdonald will be only about 110k won't he due to FS.

Viney was $109k to start, but he was pk 26 in last years draft,

If McDonald (pk 7) is less than $150k, that will be a bonus, :thumbsu:

Alot of good picks here guys.

Mcdonald from North would have to be the absolute lock of all locks in the backline, same with Fuller from the Doggies.

The cheap as chips backline strategy will work well with these 2 in the back six along with Bock and Suckling I reckon. :thumbsu:
Be wary of starting with Fuller! Will be a good get, but no guarantee to play round one. Was apparently very laconic and far too relaxed in his first few training sessions, of course he'll iron this out, but perhaps he might not be the round one lock that people think.

But McDonald is a lock, unless a whole bunch of other backline rookies announce themselves during the preseason.

Could be the year where slightly more expensive rookies are the better option due to a lack of mature agers presenting themselves

The mature agers will always show up later, it's just that the kids are all over the papers so the older ones are left behind a bit. It's been shown time and time again that mature age > kids and you usually get them cheaper too.

Is McDonald as big as his old man?

Tom Boyd is 260k in dream team, so he might be 300k in supercoach, wtf.

I hope SC doesn't follow DT, but tbh I wouldn't have picked Boyd even if he was $200k

When he's competing with others in the GWS forward line, plus he won't be getting very good service, plus there'll be a lot better options for a lower price? And that 90K can be the difference between an Ablett and a Sloane.

The $64,000,000 question is how are SC going to price 2014 rookies?

We've seen early DT and how they've increased the initial price for early draft picks (Boyd, Kelly @ 260k) and base rookies at 135k, for 2014,

But does this necessarily mean SC will follow?

I'm not sure,

I think DT had to make this type of change due to the 'sameness' of teams by the end of 2013, with 44 trades available (2/week), to make it more challenging,

ATM, if SC retain the 30 trade limit for 2014, we might still see rookie prices along the lines of this year,

Not the large increases seen in DT, IMO,

But because of how it 'shapes' how everyone will play the game in 2014, we wait...........

Regardless of what happens price wise with rookies this year my feeling is that nailing the right rookies from Rd1 will be more crucial than ever since the MBR's are starting 3 weeks earlier. Hence can't afford to pick ones who might be in and out of the side or vest candidates, which eliminates a lot of the first year guys (bar Martin) since we'll be wanting to upgrade most of the rookies before their MBR's. I'm more concerned about the possibility of mature aged rookies being slapped with a hefty premium for being well, mature aged, as opposed to what the 1st year guys are priced at.

AFL Fantasy is stating Daniel Markworth (Stk - Fwd) is listed at $115k for DT;

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-12-08/2014-afl-fantasy-price-preview-st-kilda

"Forward Daniel Markworth, who missed all of this year with a knee injury, could also be a player worth targeting next season.

"Markworth is listed at the bargain price of $115,200 and showed plenty of talent when playing in the Under-18 competition in 2011."

Plenty of BF Saints board seem to think he'll play plenty of matches in 2014, even should get a look for Rd 1, depending on Nab cup form obviously,

One to put on watchlist, ;)

Is McDonald as big as his old man?

No,

FWIW;

#8 North Melbourne – Luke McDonald (VIC – Util) F/S
Height: 188cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB: 09/02/1995
Recruited from: Oakleigh Chargers
Style: Luke Hodge
Player comparison: Trent McKenzie (stronger version)
Range: 1st round
Profile: McDonald is a really elite kick of the footy and can roost it 60m easily and hit his intended target and get it there in a hurry with his low penetrating kicks and puts it out in front of where he wants the player up the field to lead onto it. He can hit targets over any distance consistently and usually elects to go for the more damaging option which he can pull off no problem. McDonald has some real versatility to his game with the range to play down back, midfield or as a forward as required but likely starts his career out of the back half as a playmaker off a back flank. Luke is also an outstanding athlete with genuine linebreaking ability on him taking on the game at every opportunity. He’s also an excellent intercept mark with his ability to read it in the air. Not only is McDonald gifted offensively but he has shown that he can also stay with a man showing a good 1v1 game, good ability at ground level and ability to stay with a leading player allowing him to also play a more accountable role at times as required. Strong character guy who will get the most out of his game and put in the work.

Who are others liking as rookies (<$200k) from their own AFL teams lists?

Might be helpful to get a bit of 'inside' thoughts,

As far as Carlton goes there is nothing in terms of rookies this year. Cripps might get a game or two along the way but definitely won't start.

Graham (second year player) played a couple of games last year and didn't look overwhelmed, plus he had a knee injury which held him back. This year with a full preseason he could be a sneaky pod that plays most games and at a stretch ave 75-80. Beware of the sub vest though.

I'm really hoping Cameron Giles comes on quickly and overtakes McInnes as 3rd Def tall this year. His highlight reel is pretty impressive, seems to have quite a few strings to his bow. Takes marks and creates out of the backline. Was Pick 39 so should be 130k or under you would think.
