I very confident that that either: Morabito, Crozier, Sylvia, or Sheridan will turn the corner and make a huge difference to our team.

Crozier already did in those last few games. Hope he's starting 21 next season. If Mayne doesn't fix his kicking woes then Croz should get his spot. I reckon he'd be good for 30+ goals. Still heaps of improvement to go.

Funny thing with Sheridan, I'd written him and Crozier off as Crapola half way through the season. Clearly I'm a dunce because Crozier looked the real deal by the end of it, hoping Sherro's breakout is only a few months away.

Morabito is a potential game changer, hopefully he's good to go for preseason. He's got the size from all his gym work, now just needs to build his tank.

Sylvia, hmmm. Really hope he shows up early to preseason with the younger players to show us all (and RTB) that he's raring to go.

Terry Wallis on sports radio stated that other clubs should be looking to recruit some of the Hawks VFL players .
He was quite mystified why other Clubs had not looked at trying to lure them away from Hawthorn because they had played in 2 of the last 3 VFL Grand Finals and they where still waiting to break into the Hawks League team .
He rattled off 6 players names that would fit quite nicely into existing AFL lists and 2 of them where KPP.
I think Chris 25 will be able to name the players Wallis was referring to .
Ryan Griffen Captain of Western Bulldogs wanting to go to GWS was a shock to everyone but there were rumours of him wanting to leave half way through the season have proved correct .
The other interview that was on Sports Radio with the Hawks recruiting manager was very interesting as well .
They were talking to Frawleys manager for 2 years before this years trade week , now that is serious planning in anyone language .

The back room deals are sickening, it isnt good planning it should be treated like salary cap breaches and player managers that engage in it should be banned.

The amount of stink in afl is increasing.

I'd written of Sheridan and Crozier. Crozier for me, turn the corner and hopefully starts to sprint away.

Whilst I agree that they are seemingly underhanded they are not breaking any rules. The AFL makes too many mistakes in bringing in new systems yet tinkering with them or leaving crucial parts out all together. The mistakes and corrections have all been done and dusted in the US sports market, all they have to do is follow their lead.

Yeah I don't understand why clubs are not raiding them. I'd expect Grimley, Hallahan and Shoenmakers to move this trade period though.

The reason will be the hawks will request ridiculous picks for them and because they will have the 'my beloved team culture and i NEED victoria' thing going they will never request a trade to us. So its either be bent over a barrel like the old days or rely on Bond to get it done with lower league players or the draft.

I agree.

I'd have thought getting players who are fringe or not playing from top 4 sides would be better then paying overs for players who seem good from low sides.

I have no idea about Grimley at all, but you wonder that if he had played for the Bulldogs and had 25 games under his belt from last 2 seasons and done ok would we be into him.

Freo has plucked players from obscurity over the last few years, but it seems only a handful of clubs take these 'risks'.

This, pretty much.

If they are pried out of Hawthorn's clutches, it won't be us getting them... unless we're paying overs. Which makes me not care about it, a whole lot.

Hawthorn where seen to pay overs to Port Adelaide for Shawn Borg . He and Gibson filled both big holes in their team with experienced defenders . Lake was also seen as a risk given his age but they now have 2 and 3 premiership medals hanging around their necks .
Paying overs worked for them and so why not us .
Pav needs help in the forward line and with Mcpharlin's aging body we need replacements so if some hard trading is needed then the club should do it .
We have a golden opportunity to recruit players from Essendon ,GWS and we should look at Gold coast as well . Sydney's development academy has some players that could be interesting as well .
If I was a hard nosed list manager Moller should be let go . Clancee ,De Boer, Griffin and Morabito would be on the trade table along with our first draft pick to get deals done .
We could then be in a position to seriously get one of the tall forwards from GWS .
Essendon would be a lot happier to do a deal with us on Paddy Ryder as opposed to the Port deal .
Hawthorn would be happy IMO to get Clancee or De Boer and a 3rd round pick for Shoenmakers .
The deals can get done but Bond and RTB need to go harder than they have so far .

They can request a trade without nominating a club, that just means they want the Hawks to move them on as Grimley has already stated. It becomes public knowledge and teams can enquire as to what it would take etc. Not rocket science and I don't believe the Hawks are like the Bombers to deal with in terms of trading. They have a pretty good history.

For a start, the Hawks don't pay overs. They pick out the guys that they want out of other clubs, to fit holes in their list. Then they go and get in their ear. And then they assemble a deal once their target is good and motivated. And they don't have to pay overs because their target is pushing their old club to get a trade done.

Works well because
A. They're Hawthorn, and are an attractive destination these days... and have been for a while now
B. They're based in Melbourne, which is where most players are located, and where a lot of players want to play
C. The player sees them as a genuine chance of playing in a premiership team
D. They approach players from clubs that aren't doing well, as they know the player will be more motivated to get out of there

We might be able to do C and D. We are becoming a more attractive destination these days, but have a long way to go to get anywhere near Hawthorn in that respect. And B will always be a problem.

Summary: Hawks don't pay overs. We would certainly have to though. Hence, the club usually go for free agents or to the draft.

The Hawks Gave their top2 draft picks for shawn B . At the time it was way overs for him and Port where happy to do the trade . Every Football commentator said it was too much to pay for his services.
The Frawley deal is considered to be overs as he would never have attracted the no4 draft pick for him by any other Club but that is what Melbourne is getting for him as compensation for him going to Hawthorn .Not My statement but Terry Wallis said it on Trade Radio.
Lake was offered a 2 year deal when his club only offered him a 1 year deal based on his age and history of injuries .
Hale was offered a 3 year deal and good money ,again considered overs for his name on a contract so I stand by my post of Hawthorn paying overs but it got them the players they needed and 3 flags as a result .

I agree with Coulda. Hawks may not pay overs but they pay fair value and they trade imaginatively. Can you envisage Bondy pulling off the deal that got Burgoyne to Hawthorn for example. They had to give up three picks including their first round pick plus Williams, and involve two other clubs in the trade. It's not all about them having natural advantage, they are just better at it than us too.
