Thomas could not get the best out or Guerra or milne on a consistent basis and they disappeared in big games. His gameplan once we had the ball was give it to Roo or the Gtrain. opposition teams then started double teaming and throwing loose men behind the ball and after that we were done. there wasn't an alternative.

in saying that he was a great coach of developing youth but not so much at turning that youth into bonafide stars - That was what Ross was great at.
Fast forward 10-15 years & the opposition defence still kill us by double-teaming Roo & we still try to kick it to him anyway

Pretty much cost us 2 flags :(

Which one? Their's two hyphenated blokes.
We aren't reckless, next year our priority will be to sign a couple of gun free agents, so pick 8-10 may be gone, but we could still buy another first rounder from someone else.

Petrevski -seton is the kid they reckon is better than Jack Martin.

So we should get Carlisle this year. He can cop his WADA ban next year. Then we finish low enough to secure this Petrevski-Seton kid by finishing 2nd last....

Then Carlisle comes back for 2017 & we jump into the top 4 after securing Stephen Hill, Steele Sidebottom & Luke Shuey via free agency ;)

I don't begrudge them though, they both left for more coin. Smith left us end of 1997 & Lappin end of 1998

Wakelin twins were moved on end of 2000 cos Blight didn't rate them.... *******!

Aaron Hamill was acquired due to us moving Daz Wakelin on, so that isn't true.

*Edit. Sorry I realised I quoted the wrong post here - but I guess my point is we got Hamill for Darryl Wakelin & I'm not sure I would change that.

Is there a minimum amount of draft selection we must make, if we end up making a few trades will we end up being forced to use lower picks that we may not otherwise have used

Need to use at least three. One will be used on a Sinclair upgrade and one maybe on Rice as F/S. so maybe one live pick.

Reading page 989 of this thread, I'm going to go to bed tonight and wake up in the morning to read a thread containing 969 pages after the mods have finished with tonights efforts.

FWIW, a few people starting to discuss us trading both of our next two first rounders, especially with free agency from next year onwards. Would be a big call. I'm comfortable with next years, but both has me a little concerned.

As for next year minus academies, as much as its early days, is it really stronger in the first round? I appreciate deeper, but apart from Petrevski-Seaten and Ainsworth, did the boys really stand out that much over previous years underagers? I really like Rotham, been my boy for ages, but highly rated guys during the champs like Berry were very meh for mine - that kicking style won't cut it at top level...

I don't watch much TAC, but watched most Champs games so it's a very limited base for me. But instead of just having the generalisation that it's a strong first round next year, do those who follow it closely also subscribe to this theory or are my doubts genuine?

JB can you let others make up their mind on me please. I will be respectful and if I am not I'm sure I will be banned. I can assure you I have no intention of getting a warning at all. I would like to post on topic if you could stop bagging me that maybe easier.

I still think there will be further delistings so we should have room for a trade of picks for players. Whatever we do we must only worry about the future. No older players or keeping older players on the rookie list. When you are down the bottom you must keep turning the list over. Looking at the contracts that end next season there are many potential delistings and retirements if they don't improve as players.
Yep, off to a flyer.

This idea of keeping VfL players because another pick is no certainty to be better doesn't fit our profile. It's like a box of chocolates.

Well. Elaborate on the convo big boy.
I was just at work and a couple player managers and other randoms were sitting down having beers and just talking footy, so I just kept clearing their table

Collingwood's Nathan Freeman continues to baulk at a new deal from the Pies, with the two parties unable to agree to financial terms.

It is believed the untried midfielder is seeking a deal worth more than $300,000 a season.

St Kilda is circling Freeman in a bid to add much-needed leg speed to its engine room, North Melbourne have also flagged an interest in him.

300k is pretty ambitious
