I like Delaney but I think today showed we really need to add a quality Key Defender over the next few years with Goddard.
Rory Thompson please. Thank you.

With all of these big name players re-signing, we might be stuck picking up opposition duds again, like Mav Weller or, god forbid, Josh Bruce.
Ha ha, underrated post!

Paddy's a footballers footballer. This rebuild of ours has placed considerable (not total) emphasis on bringing in guys that are footballers first, exciting athletes second. Bomber mentioned that the 'guys really looked like they knew where to go and when (to cover) already'. Our team is shaping nicely, it will be passenger free, if you can't use the footy, you're going to be marginalised as we climb up the ladder. For mine, these selections are refreshing, and paddy will be central to our future success, who knows, we may end up with a gunston like leading forward to stay at home with Bruce in years to come.

Ill be honest I'm a little unsure about paddy and whether or not he's got the required skill set to be a top forward in the league...

What level do most see him reaching compared to a current player..not comparing style more level of output

I see him as another Taylor Walker type, not the biggest guy but able to use his nous and timing very well.

Agree with this. And this is also a quote from Richo:

"I believe that whatever you saw in their last year of junior footy, when they felt really comfortable with where they sit, that's generally the level they get to in the AFL," the coach said.

"Of course there's some differences in the game, but generally in my experience, once they start to believe in themselves that's the player you're going to get."

From this article: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-02-12/seb-the-next-lenny

I think the quote really highlights how good it is that these guys are pinching wins. It is a huge psychological boost to know that you are good enough to compete with anyone. Melbourne still look mentally shot despite turning over masses of players.

Yeah that was my first thought with Shiel - only two years. It fits in nicely with when we'll be starting to really impact the the final eight too!

I'm keen on Parish as from what I've read he fits the bill perfectly a la Lachie Whitfield

Who would you want from the Suns if they became available? For mine - KK would be nice but kinda like Rory Thompson as that missing key defender. Could you imagine Delaney, Goddard, Thompson as the key defenders with Lee as cover? Wouldn't mind Prestia either....can't see it happening though. The AFL wouldn't let it happen, they'd step n and right the ship including ensuring players stay....

Only one. ..". Omeara

The way that our game plan is shaping, doesn't seem reliant on a stay at home crash packs type of forward, more a lead forward and then back in to space type, like Roo, like Bruce, and hopefully like Paddy. Hogan's game on the weekend was so good because of what he did on the lead, and what he did on the deck, not because he was a monster who was unstoppable on the lead. I may be wrong, but I think we are trying to play a brand of football where we either run and carry towards goal and link up with our small but aerially skilled half forwards, or create space for our aerobic tall forwards to lead in to.

J.Riewoldt / Taylor Walker level of output would be a good outcome imo.

I know for a fact that we chased Taylor Walker hard back in 2010 (brain fade so could be early 2011). He was interested but decided to stay in Adelaide.

IMO Walker is a far better kick than Paddy although I would be interested to know what Walker's kicking was like as an 18 year old.

Honestly, I'd be happy with a Jason Heatley level of production from Killer P - Heater averaged 2.71 goals per game after all, along with 8.9 disposals and 3.6 marks per game in a much less possession-intensive era - and I'm quietly confident he can even exceed that.

Yes he went at pick 1, but once you're in the system the number is essentially meaningless. People who worry too much about it end up like Richard Tambling... or Jack Watts...

I would agree with that. Was more a reference to their footy smarts/ ability on the lead and the fact that I see them as a touch below that elite tier of key forwards for their age

i.e- i'd take- Franklin, Hawkins, Roughead and Kennedy before Walker

and I'd take

Cameron, Hogan and Lynch before McCartin with others speculative at this stage (Boyd, Daniher, McCarthy, Patton (injury)

FTR not bagging McCartin, I'm a fan. I can't wait to see how He and Bruce develop together with Membrey and our group of dangerous small forwards.

He may "only" end up as a serviceable forward, but he could be anything! Strength of character can turn a good player into a great player, and it seems he has that

So, just thinking about how many changes we're going to make to the list at season's end.

Given that this is a rather shallow draft, I can see us using only three picks - we don't need quantity at this point, we need to really add some cream. So I could see us using our first and second rounder, plus get Rice on the third - we might try to upgrade our second with a trade for a player, but either way, we'll only use three picks. Then fill in the rookie spots vacated by Schneids' retirement and Sincs' (and probably only Sincs) upgrade. That would require FOUR delistings from the main list:
  1. First rounder
  2. Second rounder (possibly upgraded)
  3. Rice
  4. Sinclair
We could delist Markworth and then take our chances that nobody will want him so we can put him in our rookie list - wouldn't be a bad option for all concerned. Even if Markworth WERE poached, it might not be a bad thing for anybody - give him a fresh start. That still leaves three spots to find, though.

Sippos and Simpkin are the two we always mention. Notwithstanding that Sippa might pull out something special in the second half of the year, that still leaves one more that would have to go. A lot of them are contracted though. Fish or Demps to retire as well? OF course, any upgrade on our second would involve us giving a player, but who has the kind of currency for that?

IMO far too early to make the call on Paddy. Needs at least two years to be able to see some kind of progression and to build up his strength and stamina.

It might even get down to delisting Simpkin/Sipposs and picking them up again using the 2nd/3rd round pick. Unlikely with our 2nd round pick, but maybe with 3rd round?

Also, wasn't someone saying at the start of the year that dempster might finish after 2015 season?

I'd love to get Parish & Tucker!

So would I.

the only chance would be to trade our second plus player to get a mid 1st round pick which even then might be too late for Tucker but could probably get Matheson which would also be a good result...

Gotta be someone traded out Perse...one of the mid-range young kids i reckon (White, Markworth, Wright, Saunders, TC, Murdoch, Minch,)
