Training reports have dried up...
Had planned to make it down today but worked late last night and overshot my alarm, will try to get down there next week.

Well I just went down and watched for the first time in ages. Finally got a day off on the right day!
It started out nice and sunny but gradually got colder as rain threatened, the players must think they are rain gods this year, they've played and trained in uniformly awful conditions for a while now.

There was a pretty full compliment on the track except for the obvious ones like Mora, Balla. Silvering and Duffy just ran laps and word is Silvagni won't play at any level this week. MJ was doing gentle run throughs for a while but he's still a few weeks away. Dawson did full training.
Fyfe and Spurr were with fitness staff for a long time away from the group but joined in match sims. Fyfe still looks a tad proppy.

Really enjoyed watching some of the youngsters today as I haven't seen them for a while. Blakey, Weller and Langdon all very impressive as usual. Blakley is a tank and looks at times like Mundy and at others like Hasleby. Ethan Hughes is a really good size and takes a strong mark and Brady Grey goes hard all the time but this is not new information.

Alex Pearce trained strongly, we've all seen him in action and gee his good mover for his size.
Hill, Walters, Mundy all had strong hitouts and Suban was everywhere and in everything. No wonder he's such a favourite.

When it came time to separate the teams there were no surprises, it looks like just Clancy in for Ballantyne with probably Crozier to start on the ground so I wouldn't get your hopes up about any youngsters getting a debut. Its business as usual for Ross.
I think Crozier really needs to grab his opportunity this week. He hasn't done much in the limited time he's been in the team this year and his kicking seems to be off. He missed all his targets last week when he came on and it wasn't much better at training today, he's slewing them off the side.

I confess after watching Blakely, Weller today I'm still hopeful for one to get a debut soon, both look to be exceptional talents as does Langdon.

Thanks for the report E Shed. Coincidentally I was just thinking at the Peel game last week that Blakely looks and moves like Mundy but plays like Hasleby.

its quite uncanny the resemblance. We have got to get this kid in soon. He's just a natural footballer.

I agree re your comment that Crozier's kicking is a real concern. I noticed that he had 7 disposals in a half of football on Saturday but only one was effective. This is a horrible stat.........pretty much the worst I can remember for a fwd/mid. Needs to take more care but not a good sign if he's spraying them at training as well :(. Thanks for the report E Shed! Love the training updates.

Not much to add to what E Shed said.

At one stage Ross had Walters off to the side and looked like he was trying to teach him how to pick up the ball properly without going head first. Blakely I thought trained really strongly and was involved in a lot of play.

On Silvagni, one of the training watchers spoke to him and apparently his GPS data was way too high from his game on the weekend and he pulled up a little sore. The club want to ease him back in but he did a lot more than they wanted so he barely trained and is unlikely to play at any level this week.

This is unfortunately most likely my last training report for the season as I'm back at Uni next week and my timetable doesn't allow me to go to training any more.

that is a massive wrap if so. If hasleby had the physical traits he would have been an absolute superstar.
Hasleby had the whole package from what I saw of him.

Ha...
Ha... ahh I'll see myself out.

I wandered down to Freo Oval today and stood with E Shed, Salim Malik and Gaskin in the sun on the wing.

The focus today was on fast ball movement starting off from the backline, through the corridor, then into the forward line. The only concern was that targets were missed by several players. This was due to moving the ball quickly and playing on at all cost more than anything thing else though.

As Gaskin mentioned, Sonny was personally mentored by Ross on how go into to a ground ball contest and collecting the ball without ducking his head. Sonny looked a bit bemused at times and when he came over to say hello to Phil and the other old training watchers, Sonny joked "I duck my head apparently." To which someone replied, "well at least you got 3 fee kicks last week."

Sonny rolled his eyes then chuckled to himself before heading off into the change rooms. Before that though Sonny was trying to kick goals from impossible angles and did struggle to kick the more difficult shots at times.

Johnno has upped his training load now and is 3 weeks off being available for selection they tell me. He will resume full training next week if things continue to go well for him.

Zac Dawson is looking good and has only minor strapping on his hand now, whilst Max Duffy just ran laps and then had a few shots on goal without missing one, so he can't be too far away either.

For me, only one change this week and that will be Clancee Pearce in for Ballaz. I then had to leave the ground and head off for a coffee from the Roasting House and a sausage roll from Patisserie La Vespa after smelling the delicious roast lamb being cooked for the players lunch.

Any chance of luring Salim back to BF?

he will probably come back in his own time. Sometimes people need a break. This place can drive you crazy when you start to obsess about what other people are thinking and if the general tide of feeling is against how you feel.
I've stopped reading and posting here at times until I feel that the amount of time I'm thinking and worrying about football has come back into perspective.

I would think yes but from the way he was talking I don't think it will be for a while.
