Your persistence is admirable .
Even if it gets no further than first base, kudos for no letting up.


But as harsh as it was it was also the correct call, the only travesty was that others on the list should also have been given the flick, and that makes the decision in isolation seem odd.
Our Club has a long standing record of keeping players on our list after their use by date has expired and also if they are NQR ( not quite right ) .

When fit Masten can accumulate high 20 to 30 possession games. How many 4th or 5th rounds have done that? Feel free to name a couple.

Masten needs others to do the hard inside work no question. He isnt fast and doesn't kick goals.

What he does well is run all day and accumulate. He's icing on the cake.

When fit and accumulating 20-30 possessions with guys giving it too him, he's still concerned about his hairstyle and how he looks more than getting a contested possession and putting his body on the line at the detriment of the team. He is not worth a 4th rounder.

We need at least 1 of them to take that next step and really entrench themselves in the 22 - would take our team nek level too.

Duggan is the key - his vision, skills, leadership and toughness is what we need - lifts the team when he plays IMO, much more than Hurn does on field.


FWIW I believe its time for a captain change - we need Shuey or Kennedy to captain us. Hurn does not rally the troops on field. He's failed when we needed a leader to stand up the most.

How embarrassing is that our 19 year old bambi lifts the team more than Hurn. We definitely need a leadership change. I hope Mitchell is appointed VC and either a Shuey or JK Skip with Duggan/Sheed to be in the leadership group.

Whilst we seem to lack leadership at the top, from all the pressers it seems Simpson is really happy with the young leaders at the club.

We get it Masten is the new whipping boy on the Eagles BF site. Go look at my view on Masten, I want him traded as we have too many small mids and the likes of Partington, Duggan, Cole and hopefully this years pick 12 will offer more.

But we should just settle down and work together to at least push Masten into a 2nd round trade value. None of this 4th or 5th round talk.

IMO GWS would grab English with 5 and use up all those later picks and points on Setterfield is my call. They need a quality ruck to come through in 2>3 years and they have more mids than they need, they still draft two more plus the best ruck / forward in the draft. With Lobb hinting he may return to WA in a year or two they need another ruck.

Hopefully Sydney need 10 on a academy kid, they to also need a ruck / forward, maybe thats why they traded for pick 10.

Freo still need KP backs so Logue would be an obvious choice.

Something pretty decent will slide to 12.........but who?

To be honest we could do with another young kpd and kpf on our list,we need to develop a kpf to take over from Kennedy in the next few years and Schofield and McKenzie aren't getting any younger

More of a w(h)inger than a KPF. Besides, pretty difficult to play when you only ever look east, he'll get cast-eye for sure.

Not stick around past his next contract or not make the grade.I would rather see him as a tall mid than a kpf.

I heard a rumour dusty is going to the hawks next year as a free agent. Thats why they got rid of mitchell and lewis. Pretty confident they wont take SPP at 88.

Really? Bit of a stretch. When had Duggan "lifted the team" to victory?

When any kid does something good sure the older players get around him.

A captain leads every day of the week, not just during games and Hurn is highly respected by the players, he plays across half back which is where you can actually be a 'general' and not only impact the game but marshal the troops. Kennedy is our forward line general.

Duggan is touted as a future captain but that won't happen for another 4/5 years minimum, we aren't Melbourne.

Hurn won't be replaced because he's doing a good job on and off the field. The next captain will be a Shuey or a Gaff or maybe NickNat. Then Duggan.

I would have thought the clean out this year was to get tom Mitchell and O'Meara? Next year Burgoyne and hodge will be showed the door

Player Traits: Jack Ziebell, Luke Parker
Position: Midfield/Forward

Bio: Brad is a Gold Coast academy player but they may not match an early bid to not go into points deficit but either way he is a quality player and should play senior footy early. He is a contested midfielder who can go forward.

Brad is a contested beast who is strong over the ball and very good overhead he crashes and bashes and works hard to win the footy(Jack Ziebell). He is a ball magnet he knows how to win the ball on the inside and the outside he works hard to space to link up for marks and will work hard on the inside to lay a tackle and throw his weight around.

He is a threat forward with his overhead marking and a knack for finding the goals in most situations(Luke Parker). He is powerful on the lead and his strong hands and ability to earn a high free kick gives him many shots at goal when rested forward.

He has decent skills but he isn't very damaging by foot and hand, he knows how to win a lot of the footy and pick the right option however. His speed apart from his initial burst isn't great his speed in general is only average.

Brad is a hard worker and the perfect modern day inside midfielder with the ability to do damage up forward and work hard in the middle.

I would also want us to look at Berry. For me - he is the ideal pick for us at 12. He is a genuine inside mid, good skills, excellent leadership (captain of Vic Country) and already has great endurance. He ticks every box.

Hello People, just signed up today. have trawled this forum for years but thought I better get on board. Die hard West Coast since they started.
Would like to wight into this debate.... I think either SPP or Taranto with our first pick without a doubt. SPP first. Powerful dont argue mids win the big games and carry the teams on their back..look at the bont, Fyfe, Martin and now Cripps. I think this is what we are lacking although will take a couple of years before he is at that level and I am unsure of his running capacity. The case can be made for Taranto also, I have seen a couple of his games and is all polish and has a great left foot which adds another dimension in the midfield but am unsure if he will still be around. The plus with him as well is his elite running. Either one I think we should be targetting as a priority. Thoughts?
