“There is some context, I’m told there are five or six teams above us (on the ladder) with no Thursday or Friday night fixtures either.

But what about the teams who finished below you Triggy?

Oh.

Apparently there is a strong suggestion we have the Blues in round 3.

R1 - Crows at Etihad
R2 - Lions Gabba
R3 - Blues at Etihad

That's seems a remarkably soft start for a team that finished 4th.

If that is the start it smells like we will get screwed at some point.

Fewer Fridays than we'd deserve, maybe.
Yep expect Collingwood (with all their new shiny toys) Ninethmond (It's beautiful how the Tiger front runners are all back on board) *Scum (Woosha bringing the new gear to Windy Hill) and Geelong (see Collingwood's shiny toys and x2) to figure in the main portion of Fridays.

Us, the Saints, Dogs will get pineapple'd for sure.

Melbourne has scored a major victory with its playing schedule next season, having convinced the AFL to reprise its Anzac eve clash against Richmond at the MCG.

In a move which is expected to irritate Collingwood, the competition will return to the scene of its 2014 fixturing fiasco — Sunday night football — in order to satisfy the Demons and the Tigers which have worked to create a new regular event in the AFL calendar.

While the league was reluctant to schedule a Sunday night game – the timeslot registered some historically bad attendance numbers when it was used for experimental purposes to appease broadcasters in 2014 – the MCG co-tenants were adamant the fixture could work in 2016 as a one-off on the eve of a public holiday.

Collingwood and Essendon will stage the stand-alone April 25 blockbuster which falls on a Monday next season. Fremantle and Port Adelaide have also been successful in their bids to host home games at Subiaco and the Adelaide Oval respectively over the Anzac weekend.

Richmond and Melbourne made a joint bid to the AFL some 18 months ago to play each other at the MCG as a regular fixture on Anzac eve in a game. The clubs' bid involved a dedication to Frank Checker Hughes, a decorated World War I hero who played in two Richmond premierships and coached the Tigers one along with four flags as the Demons coach.

Last year's clash saw Ron Barassi light a flame in a moving pre-game ceremony which came with the backing of the RSL. Melbourne upset Richmond by 32 points in front of 58,000.

However, the Magpies opposed the new fixture, describing the Anzac Day calendar as already over-subscribed . Club president Eddie McGuire likened the April 24 night game at the MCG to "having Christmas twice."

Mindful of the Sunday night disasters in 2014 the AFL initially indicated its was unwilling to fixture the Melbourne-Richmond game in that slot but the two clubs told the league they wanted to back themselves to create the regular tribute game on whatever night it fell.

The AFL has fixtured no other Sunday night games next season with the Demons to take on Collingwood again in what has become the traditional public holiday clash on Queen's Birthday Monday.

Would've thought McChins would be happy with two Christmasses as it gives him the opportunity to double up on turkey, ham and pudding consumption.

If he's so worried about the over subscription of ANZAC Day, why don't the AFL bring in a rule that BOTH participants in the ANZAC Day game have to have made the finals in the previous year in order to be eligible to play. It should rid us of the scourge of the Filth and * monopolising the fixture for the foreseeable future.

Blues in Tassie I think.

I don't care so much about playing interstate clubs in Tassie, but playing clubs like Carlton in Tassie really gets up my nose. Seems like the feedback I gave the club regarding this has been a waste of time. I'm only one person so why should the club give a toss. The AFL shaft us with the fixture , so we don't need the club selling us out as well.

I'd be bettinng that my feedback was similar.

However I think that my response probably lost a little bit of credibility when I said that if Boomers record breaking game was scheduled interstate that JB should go and punch Gilligan in the face.

If theres any vic teams scheduled for tasmania then id hope its carlton.

Carlton, gold coast and freo would be good.

Etihad home games against adelaide, west coast, sydney, hawks, collingwood, essendon, st kilda, and richmond.

Thatd be ideal.

THere is no reason that the AFL shouldn't schedule the bolded games at the MCG.

If all teams are up there would be 60+ at a Friday night.

If all teams are not up the questionable one becomes Essendon.

Why Wagga Wagga ...
Why not? It's only a praccy match & there's a lot of fans out here, plus a newly redeveloped ground (with some AFL money) in a 50000 population city, there's going to be games there every other year & I guarantee at least 10000 will show up. Vested interest alert: I live 80km north of Wagga so I'm pretty excited.

Also Carey and Mooney from there for a North connection, as the club just retweeted someone saying.
