Just trying to work out why you watched SMS and Ormond

Round 5 Ormond v St Mary's at EE Gunn Reserve. St Mary's ground is SMALL. The Gunn Res. is average in size. St Marys are running pretty well at the moment and I know first hand that Ormond will not take relegation well. I watch all teams as best I can. From experience of team and club culture. My club have been on the receiving end of some Yarra Valley arrogance.

Any danger of the D1 scribe writing a little more about the football next week? Hard job but gee whiz!

Was named in the team that played... Ormond should get their team sheets right
haha, thank you Richo, whomever you are! Yes bedford and other bloke, fair enough with your criticism but from what it appeared, Mal Michael (no. 15) was named in the team list for round 1. I suspect that has been changed but it is difficult to write accurate reports when you don't receive emails from any of the clubs bar NOBS and St Mary's for match reports. So I do the best I can with the information I'm given. I like to think I keep it lighthearted, readable and enjoyable, just what amateur football should be. But you know, feel free to criticise first as most of us seem to desire to do these days rather than applying a little logic and thought. Much easier that way!

Anyway, moving on from that damp and soggy blanket, my tips:

Yarra Valley v Kew - This is a monster grudge game. Last time Yarra played Kew, Yarra won by more than 80 points and the Yeo brothers tore it up. Kew is a completely different side but I wouldn't be surprised to see a relatively close one. Yarra have had a tough go of it thus far. Kew by 18.
Ormond v NOBS/St Pats - Ormond mean business. Mal Michael hasn't even played yet and they appear very impressive. Big bodies, smart players and the ability to run over sides. NOBS were trounced last week but they'll be back. However, Ormond by 17.
Old Mentonians v Prahran Assumption - Prahran play to their strengths. They're tough on the inside with a bit of class on the outside. Particularly like the young kid wearing number 50. He makes them look a bit more three-dimensional. They'll be thereabouts. Old Mentone are a mid table side, will be interesting to see if they can find another gear. Prahran by 4 goals.
Bulleen Temp v St Mary’s Salesian - This could get a little messy if both sides play to form. Bulleen need to stop Gary Putaranateri (sp?), Sid Jones and the like from running amuck. When they are given space, SMS are a quality football side. If Bulleen can stop their flow from half back, they might be in it until three quarter time, but I expect SMS to win comfortably. SMS by 50.
Whitefriars v Old Geelong - Old Geelong are simply lacking a bit of C*** at the moment. Great bunch of blokes, but maybe too gentlemanly. Just a theory, I like the way they play and how they are structured. Tall across the ground with some talented athletes such as Matthew Young. Whitefriars still an enigma at the moment. Still watching them closely to figure them out. Old Geelong by 5 goals.

Enjoy a weekend full of hard, tough footy lads! Should be a very emotional day considering the circumstances. Lest we forget.

Listen goose, he might have been named, but when the game was on he didn't. Team sheets are exchanged before the game, that's what matters, so to say he went well when he didn't play is mind bogling

yeah I know Penguin, the scribe should get to every D1 game across Melbourne (just for 10 minutes each) and match up every player on the ground to the team sheet to ensure they are correct and then that will mean his write ups are more accurate. He's gotta do more in that (volunteered) gig he's got!

Kew by 50 points - lookng the goods at the moment.

Ormond by 2 goals against NOBS St Pats - two bigger bodied sides, will be s great game.

Old Mentonians to upset Prahran Assumption. 20 points

St Mary's v Bulleen Temp - a serious premiership threat v an older Bulleen Temp who are on the slide. 70 points, Holmes to kick a bag and Sid Jones to tear it up.

Whitefriars v Old Geelong - Match of the round. Whitefriars are extremely young and if they can execute a smart game plan, they'll surprise a few people. Whitefriars by 6 goals.

Understand Bedford's point about checking team lists, but I will go into bat for WB in general, as the scribe gig is invariably one where you get a bit of info from a couple of clubs, and if they aren't travelling well that drops off early.

Just FYI, as was the case for me, the D1 scribe is playing every Saturday and probably has a far more important role stopping an opposition key forward than watch the four other matches he isn't playing in.

Give him a hand perhaps with a quick PM/Report which notes your better players, and it will avoid any errors.
