Just rewatching Oliver Florent's vision, you'd be hard-pressed to criticise his impact on games. I'm really not sure how you couldn't be impressed by him. Breaks the lines with impressive burst speed and recorded a 15.1 beep, can win the ball in the midfield and is more-often-than-not a quality ball user.

Vision I have seen of him Gollo was the complete opposite that you describe.
I need to more research .

Gollo can't find any vision of Floent that screams 1st rounder.
No doubt a nice player , but no great attributes that I can see. In fact all I saw a very average kick.
Still no thanks for me.

Spoke to Luke Ryan. His manager told him the dogs will take him at 18 or 26. Things could change on draft night if blokes slide but you can pretty much take it to the bank
Do you know much about him? Impressive stats with 86% kicking efficiency and the most intercept possessions in the VFL. From the extremely limited vision I've seen, looks to be a Easton Wood/Dane Rampe type player.

I must be watching the same vision as you King, I'd rather select Long than this kid at any pick...

At 18 or 26?
Or both?

I'm hoping for Simpkin, Venables or Marshall with our first

Luke Ryan, Witherden, Galluci or Battle at our second

So we at least can get one forward with one of our first two picks and then use our third for bidding on some of those academy players & hopefully they're out of points to use

Not rated. Isn't an option.

First impressions, this would appear an odd selection for us. Yet another running half back flanker at 185cm - a position we have a truck load of options for. Granted, he was the only VFL player invited to the combine and has had a breakout year with Coburg but is he the type we need, particularly at our early picks?

I'm saying we have control over our players compared to when we played with Williamstown, often the players named would play forward one week then back the next, even playing in the development side.

We are in a much better position now having our own VFL side
I agree with what you are saying in relation to control over
player development, but have you ever considered that
during the Willy alignment some of our players were just
not very good. I used to go to the Willy games all the
time and very rarely left thinking gee that guy is AFL
standard. I guess i would like to see Footscray as like
our academy with access to the best non drafted
players of the previous year with a clear agenda of
this is the backdoor to an AFL career.

Luke Ryan is the best prospect out of the VFL this year. Can play a lock down role, running half backer, wing and forward.

Mmmmmm bit concerned. Remember the last player we picked up from the state league with a good kick?

God I'm a pessimist. Leave it to the pros dergert.

Fuller and Howard were one trick ponies. Ryan wins his own ball much better than those two. Marking is good too.

Ryan is very different to Fuller. One is a genuinely good footballer and the other just had a long kick.

He looks quite different to those two. The other two were soft outside runners, and Ryan looks like a great intercept player and quite accomplished overhead.

We have two probably retiring at the end of next season. Will be a handy player for us.

I see Ryan has nice kicking efficiency, but what type of kick is he? The neat and tidy type ala Boyd/Laird/Birchall or does he have a long booming kick that can be a real weapon like a Suckling/Hurn/Gilbee?

Also, are we committed to taking at least one tall with one of our first two picks? Or are two sub-190cm players a possibility?

If we feel that Luke Ryan can immediately slot into Murphy's slot, especially with the talk of him retiring, then by all means take him at 26. 18, I feel will have too many quality sliders available, i.e English, Florent, Venables, Gallucci, to take over Ryan.

From what I've heard, it's more of a Gilbee-type boot. Really impressive defender, albeit unaccustomed to the midfield or forward line. [Watching his vision now, seems more like a safe kick to me, doesn't go for the long option too often. High ball drop is a bit of a worry, his action isn't all that pretty, but it seems to get the job done. Intercept marking looks to be his real game. Very impressive.]

His hair is pretty rank, although. Not sure how much Dal takes shit haircuts into account ;).

Ryan will fit in well with our system. He's a pretty good choice considering at the end of 2017 he would be in heavy consideration to replace one of three possible retirees.

Too many tasty options at 18 to consider Ryan though. Would love a tall slider to drop at 18 and Ryan with 26.

Hopefully post Morris I hope we choose only 2 genuine KPDs and play Wood as the third tall defender. Meaning we go smaller and yet more mobile.

God, Jy Simpkin is a talent! I've sung his praises pretty much since August that we should pick him, and I'm still just holding out hope that he somehow slides. Would fit into our system so well, I feel.

He reckons that he puts on weight easily when his "diet and gym are in check", so that looks optimistic towards him not being an Ayce Cordy type. Also is very well-spoken, seems quiet, focused.

Weight wasn't the problem with Ayce imo, the issue was maintaining his athleticism. People forget Ayce was 105kg one year but lost all his athleticism so they trimmed him down. He was top 10 in the agility test at the combine yet never really looked like it because he had to gain too much weight. The threat is a little bit similar to English, probably not quite as bad since he has a little bit more weight on him.

I'm not sure you fully understand the type of player English is. He's a mobile, 205cm quasi-ruckman with elite kicking skills. For what it's worth, many recruiters don't believe he has true ruck capabilities, rather, see him as a future 205cm intercept-marking defender - what I want him to be. He's not my most favoured pick at 18 but he has a shitload of talent and if Dal thinks he's got what it takes then I'd fully trust us to pick him up. He's also likely to keep growing - getting into 206-207cm would greatly assist him in his ruckwork, having that extra height advantage.

when you put it that way, it does make sense for a zoning defence where he can intercept or be a legitimate link up player through the midfield when we are rebounding.

Luke Ryan has 51 minutes left as this morning's 'dead cert for us'. Another selection must be made soon after 12pm, with a seconded vote, so that they can be this afternoon's 'dead cert for us'.
