Trading up with the collection of third round picks that we got last year?

I think Brisbane have a highly rated academy coming through, we might be able to trade up using that perhaps?
Unless the rules have changed or been changed before then, I am not sure.
Yeah, that's what I meant, package our lower picks into another first rounder, or use them to upgrade our existing first, whatever the points allow us to do. Brisbane would be a good target, as would Gold Coast. I expect GWS to rise to be around the same spot on the ladder to us so maybe we could use our later round picks without using out existing first if we trade with them.

Disappointingly though it's an extra 4th rounder we have. We actually lost our 3rd rounder to Carlton. A couple of trade outs might strengthen our position though (Hrovat, Honeychurch, Minson?).

Yeah, it is something to think about through out the year

I'm sure it could be done though, but I still believe we trade that first or a future first for a ruck from somewhere

Any early thoughts on who the ruck would be? I'd be worried about not having a first round pick this year, it looks a good crop and that would make it three years in a row.

We need to take at least two first rounders this year or a really high one. Talent is deeper at the top than last year.
Would love to target a quality 2 early and then 1 speculative late pick.

No clue, but maybe we do what you're saying

I personally don't mind either option at this stage

I'm for keeping our first rounder I don't like having long periods without first round picks and IMO someone like Goddard from WA could show themselves as a ready made No.1 ruck like Brodie Grundy did. I'd actually like for us to package those late picks for upgrades with the Academy sides.

We need to find a replacement for Dickson in this draft though, preferably later if possible. Need a goal kicking small/mid sized forward who can kick as many as Dickson can in the future nearly as much as a CHF.

After this years draft Wizard17 do you think we may be approaching the
point where what we need is not found in the draft ?

I thought you would have pushed McLean, Dale or even Webb as the next
incarnation of Dickson, maybe we have that covered with multiple options.

Agree with your first bit, as for the second point, you dont think Toby Mclean fits the bill as a Dickson replacement, considering Dicko would have at least 2 or three years left easily.

In some spots yes. Ruckmen I'm more than happy to trade for more than a KPF you generally need top twenty picks to find a decent KPF or a LOT of money and with the way our list is now I'd rather go for the former in that regards.

I thought you would have pushed McLean, Dale or even Webb as the next

I'm happy to have a rotation of McLean/Dahl/Dale/Daniel on the half forward line but finding another guy who can come in and get the same sort of returns on the scoreboard in the deep forward line as Dickson can is important.

I've said it from the beginning that McLean is a goal kicking midfielder and not a pure forward like Dickson. To replace Dickson we need to find the sort of player who can go berserk like he can and kick bags regularly I've yet to see signs of this from our half forward types yet.

I think talk of missing out on our last 2 first rounders is a bit misleading.

In 2014 we traded our 1st rounder for a teenage #1 pick with a year's development in him and last year we traded our first round pick for 2 2nd round picks, with which we (by all reports) got our desired man anyway and a bonus.

It's not like a period where we are trading away 1st round picks for older players in the chase for a quick fix.

Out of curiosity who is the Ruck worth a first round pick that might be up for trade this year?

Anyway I'd wait on what Campbell does this year because if he has a very good year then we could just draft one of the better No.1 rucks in this years draft.

Goddard, Ladhams & Strnadica seem to be the three possible first round rucks spoken about. What's known about them so far?

Goddard is likely going to be the first ruck taken in my opinion he has good size, is versatile and has the aggression I like in No.1 rucks. He shouldered the vast majority of the load for WA last year in the national champs.

Strnadica I recognize more as another Key Forward around the 200cm who could pinch hut in the ruck rather than a ruck. I have him amoungst a few KPFs who could go in the first round along with Josh Battle and Zac Sproule (GWS academy)

Anyone have any indication of what Michael Romero will cost us as a father\son based on performances so far?

Not much. Not a certain selection by any stretch. Has a bit to work on.

Is Tyson any relation to Jake Lever? Both from the same junior club.

On the SEN web site

The massive depth of promising players on the Western Bulldogs list may force them to be very active in upcoming trade periods, says Glenn Luff.

The Champion Data analyst was impressed at the inexperienced Bulldogs’ display against Melbourne in the NAB Challenge game, losing by only 15 points despite missing a host of important players.

“If you have a look at who the Dogs had out, I know they ended up losing by 15 points, but they had a lot of players out. They were two years younger than Melbourne on the day,” Luff said on SEN's The Run Home.

He stated that this display was a sign of a deep squad, and is adamant the Bulldogs will have upwards of 32 ready-made AFL footballers within the next few years.

Luff believes that this will naturally lead to many of these fringe players seeking trades away from the club to seek more game time.

“In two years’ time (the Bulldogs) will have 30 to 32 players that can easily play AFL and be happy to slot into the team which gets me thinking about them in the next couple of trade periods,” Luff said.

“They have got a lot of players with currency who might be missing out on games. I look at guys like Nathan Hrovat who I reckon is a good player but he might miss out, he might not be a regular this year".

However the Champion Data analyst also considers this situation as a positive for the Bulldogs, who could seek an established defender or ruckman with the trade currency they hold.

“If you think of the Dogs, they probably need a key defender, they got Kieran Collins this year but they wouldn’t mind another one or a ruckman,” Luff said.

“They’ve got a bit of currency and a bit of trade bait.”
