SOUTH Australian midfielders Jack Graham and Jonty Scharenberg have shown why they are regarded as exciting draft prospects, steering their side to a 37-point win over Western Australia at AAMI Stadium on Sunday.

On the back of his 29-possession game last Saturday, captain Graham led his team superbly once again with a match-high 34 touches, four tackles and four clearances.

Graham was well complemented by 186cm Scharenberg – the younger brother of Collingwood backman Matt – with 29 disposals, six clearances and five tackles.

The midfield duo showed maturity beyond their years, covered the ground well and created scoring opportunities in the comprehensive 12.10 (82) to 6.9 (45) win.

Defenders Sam Walker and Andrew McPherson proved too strong on their direct opponents in one-on-one contests, with the pair taking several intercept marks and providing good rebound for SA.

Father-son prospect Ben Jarman, the son of Adelaide and Hawthorn great Darren, hunted the ball in the midfield and up forward with 17 possessions and a goal.

Midfielder Zac Fisher was named Western Australia's best, using his strong work ethic and pinpoint left-foot kick to great effect with 20 touches to go with seven tackles.

Speedster Shai Bolton (14 disposals) converted WA's first goal of the match at the 12-minute mark of the second quarter and lifted his side again after moving into the midfield in the third term.

Midfielder Sam Powell-Pepper (14 disposals, five clearances) fought hard in the clinches and was lively when he drifted to full-forward in the last quarter, while 199cm forward Luke Strnadica added three majors to take his tally to seven goals in two games.

South Australia controlled play from the opening stages of the game, ending with 107 more possessions (354-247) and 16 more inside 50s (50-34).

WA takes on the Allies next Saturday in Perth for round three of the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, while SA meets Vic Metro at AAMI Stadium next Sunday.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA 3.3 7.6 11.8 12.10 (82)
WESTERN AUSTRALIA 0.4 2.5 3.7 6.9 (45)

That was an incredible game of footy between Country and Metro, a lot of guys stepped up in the 4th. There was even a comment about McGrath from shifter saying "that was bulldog like" when he took the game on from full back.

Yeah I liked McGrath and Taranto's games both moved really well.

Also liked Korewha. A player who can play KPD and rebound like that...

Clarke, McGrath, Galluci, Vernables and Taranto stepped up for Metro. Jaidyn Stephenson is definitely one to watch for next year. Moves very well.

Gallucci was up and down. Had some really good minutes and then went missing. Shows some good signs though.

I liked Larkey's attack on the football and he is a nice size.

Venables played mostly forward and was a class above

Taranto is a really good mover, covers the ground with ease and really strong overhead.

Korewha is so mobile for a player who can play KPD.

Another one of my boys, Oliver Florent was probably one of Metro's best before he was injured.

Taylin Duman has something just needs to be a little more consistent.

Larkey wasn't super composed when he went back to take a shot though, I didn't like that.

That play where Vernables was taken holding the ball but got it back, shook the hips and brushed off the tackler was impressive. That raw power on the wing was Danger-like. His play to set up the Brown goal near the end was also impressive as was the contested mark to kick the winner. Can see why he is highly rated, just needs to be a bit more involved but that will come.

Agree re. Taranto, also liked the way he moves around stoppages. That goal where they compared his work to Stevie J was a result of this. He and Florent were both very lively playing as high half forwards. I assume Taranto has played more mid in the TAC cup so his versatility would be appealing to Dal and co. Great leap which is useful forward and also agility, something I value highly in midfielders.

Although he played there, I didn't see much from Korewha which impressed me defensively, however I can see why he was played back now. Would've had some good metres gained for the match and he goes on long linking runs and kicks long and well. Seems to be coming together for him quite fast. Liked the smother where he just caught it. Again reminds me a bit of Grant with how he moves, just without the broken kick.

Duman is one I looked out for and did some nice things, moves well and has good height but agree he needs to find a way to stay involved. Probably has to develop more of an inside game. Takes the game on which I like.

McGrath in the 4th really lifted the team. He is Metro's captain too so that's a big tick. He just looked AFL ready out there. Intercepted, took the game on, hit targets, stood up when needed and looked a future AA player. Saw bits of Heath Shaw, JJ and Laird in him.

Korewha hasn't got the stick insect build either :p

Loves to run with it and take the game on. Kicks a long way too. The defensive side can be worked on.

Duman wanted to play on every time he got it. At 193cm it would be really nice if he could come on later in year. He shiwed some attacks on the footy that make me think be can develop an inside game.

Larkey didn't look confident in front of goal on the set shot which is funny because he kicked it really well on the run in the first. The fact he isn't afraid to use his body and jump at the ball at around 198cm would make me willing to take a punt with a pick later in the draft. Has some Joe Daniher about him.

VIC Metro has produced a stunning comeback to defeat Vic Country by two points at Simonds Stadium on Monday.

Trailing by 20 points at the final change, Metro stormed home with six goals to two in the last quarter to seal a thrilling 14.10 (94) to 14.8 (92) victory.

Daniel Venables was the hero with a goal in the final minute, while Callum Brown – the son of Collingwood premiership star Gavin Brown – was very impressive.

For Country, highly touted prospects Will Brodie (29 possessions), Ben Ainsworth (four goals) and Hugh McCluggage (25 disposals, three goals) all had standout games.

In a game of distinct momentum shifts, Country held a 22-point break at the opening change before Metro hit back to take a three-point lead at quarter-time.

Ainsworth's four-goal haul came in the third term to give Country their break heading into the last quarter, but they squandered their opportunity to win their first game of the carnival.

Metro co-captain Andrew McGrath was the star of the final term, with the athletic half-back shifted to Ainsworth and shutting him out of the game.

McGrath not only did that, but also managed to provide terrific rebound, run and intercept marking to push Metro towards victory.

The thrilling contest would have provided plenty of insight to club recruiters, with a significant number of players showing good glimpses of their talent.

Brown's 27-disposals, eight-clearance and one-goal game proved the father-son prospect to be a legitimate first-round contender, while Dylan Clarke (the brother of North Melbourne's Ryan) collected 26, six clearances and two goals.

Tim Taranto's class in attack was also important for Metro, with the Sandringham Dragon's three-goal bag from 18 disposals proving he can move through the midfield and half-forward.

Venables' last 10 minutes of the game showed why some clubs view him as a possible top-10 pick, with the powerful Western Jets midfielder/forward setting up the second-last goal to Brown before kicking the match-winner.

Country's trio of stars was well supported by Myles Poholke (18 disposals and two goals), and bottom-agers James Worpel (16 disposals, nine tackles) Lochie O'Brien (16 disposals).

Country's defeat follows its 61-point drubbing by Western Australia, leaving last year's championships winners without a victory after two rounds.

They have the bye in round three next weekend, while Vic Metro will travel to Adelaide to take on South Australia on Sunday at AAMI Stadium.

VIC COUNTRY 5.2 6.3 12.4 14.8 (92)
VIC METRO 1.4 6.6 8.8 14.10 (94)

told you
:D just not as sold
I did a 11 hour twitch stream so I didn't get to see the game at all

I learned a couple of things

1. If we go small.

Get Taranto.

2. It is incredibly even this draft. Struggling with my top 30 because I could fit about 30 odd players between 15 and 30 without too many arguments...

3. McGrath is top 10 on talent

Oh and with a good development team Korewha will become a genuine A+ Defender. Can run and carry the ball and kick it a long way. Was trying to think of someone he reminded me of then it hit me though he isn't as built as him he has a lot of Marcus Adams about him.
