McLuggage looked really good, although won't get the space at AFL level. Love his work. Top 5 pick.
Graham is interesting, really much better than I thought. Clearance work is good but not sold on his work yet. Can't identify the reason for my hesitancy. Late first round pick.

BOTTOM-AGED key forward prospect Sam Hayes has booted three goals to steer Vic Metro to a 14-point victory over the Allies in Friday's NAB AFL Under-18 Championships at Etihad Stadium.

Hayes, a potential top-five selection in next year's draft, booted three goals from 13 disposals to ensure Vic Metro remains in the box seat to secure its 16th Division One Under-18 title.

Metro now just needs to beat Western Australia at Simonds Stadium next Wednesday in its final game of the carnival to take home the silverware.

Hayes, who stands at 200cm and can move exceptionally well for a big man, was an important target for Metro in its 10.14 (60) to 8.12 (74) win.

However, the work of Corey Lyons, younger brother of Adelaide's Jarryd, was equally impressive as he racked up 20 disposals and a goal.

Dylan Clarke, the younger brother of North Melbourne's Ryan, continued his stellar form in the Championships with another 26 touches and five clearances.

The result looked to be almost elementary as Metro kicked five goals to nil in the first term. But the Allies hit back with four goals to nil of their own in the second quarter to get back in touch.

The Allies, coached by Tadgh Kennelly, hit the lead halfway through the third term as Jack Bowes (20 disposals and seven inside 50s) and Harry Perryman (18) started to exert their influence.

The match was in the balance even into the final term before Callum Brown, the son of Collingwood's Gavin, kicked a clever snap out of a pack to drag Metro over the line with only a few minutes left in the contest.

Andrew McGrath, whose draft stocks are rising considerably, had an excellent second half to finish with 24 disposals and six clearances as he spent time in the midfield.

Jordan Ridley, who took a spectacular pack mark in the second quarter, also impressed with 18 possessions and seven marks for Metro.

Greater Western Sydney academy member Charlie Spargo was lively up forward, while Jacob Allison also worked hard for the Allies with 14 touches and a goal.

VIC METRO 5.1 5.6 6.9 10.14 (74)
ALLIES 0.5 4.7 6.10 8.12 (60)

BEN JARMAN has moved a step closer to confirming himself as a father-son selection in this year's NAB AFL Draft after impressing for South Australia in Friday's Under-18 Championships.

Jarman, the son of Hawthorn and Adelaide premiership star Darren, booted three goals in the first half, displaying his smarts and a busy attitude in attack, to help his state to an 11-point win over Vic Country at Etihad Stadium.

The small forward, who stands 175cm, is eligible to join either the Crows (qualifying as Adelaide's first ever father-son pick) or Hawthorn as a father-son selection.

Darren Jarman played 109 games for Hawthorn from 1991-1995, before moving to Adelaide where he managed 121 matches, starring in both the 1997 and 1998 premiership victories.

Ben Jarman, confirmed as being in Adelaide's sights by Crows recruiting manager Hamish Ogilvie on AFL.com.au's Road to the Draft podcast, was not the only Croweater to impress on Friday as South Australia proved too strong for a winless Country side.

Jack Graham (25 disposals, nine clearances and seven tackles) continued his fine Championships, while Jonty Scharenberg – younger brother of Collingwood's Matt, also had 25 disposals and seven clearances.

Jake Pitman was typically tough through the middle of the ground with 22 disposals and 13 tackles, while Tyson Stengle exhibited his ability when given time and space.

Country gave up six goals to two in the opening quarter, with South Australia extending that margin to 35 points at the major break.

Hugh McCluggage, in contention as a top-five pick come the end of the season, was a clear standout for Country with 17 disposals and three goals, working tirelessly through the midfield.

McCluggage's ability to weave through traffic provided a bright spot for Country, while Ben Ainsworth, also in the mix as a high selection, gave his team plenty of energy through the midfield and up forward with 20 disposals and four inside 50s.

Ainsworth's bullet-like pass in the final term to set up a goal for Joe Atley, the younger brother of North Melbourne's Shaun, was a delight to watch.

Country booted five goals to nil in the last quarter to cut the final margin to 11 points at the end of the game, but their slow start ultimately proved costly.

VIC COUNTRY 2.0 3.5 4.10 9.11 (65)
SOUTH AUSTRALIA 6.0 9.4 11.8 11.10 (76)

Ratugolea showed a fair bit to, just wasn't too good with his finishing today

How did we see Larkey's game for Metro today? Good to see Larks play in defence; school footy, TAC Cup has been played predominantly forward/ruck, I think. A few mistakes early but was quite good on Sproule and showed some zip with his run. Could be developed as a swingman perhaps, would love to see him at the Dogs. As a side note, you might have noticed there was a big roar whenever he got a touch, quite a few Trinity boys got down from school to support.

Just watched the Replay of the SA V Country game. Really liked some of the smalls on both sides, Stengle was superb really hard to corral and damaged Country, Fowler could have kicked 4 with a bit more luck and was seemingly always in the right spots for the crumbs. Ratugolea needs to work on his disposal but it is good to see him give second and third efforts, got a good jump and hits the ball hard on the lead. Thought Sharenberg and Graham where really good. Graham needs to work on his disposal a bit but showed some real explosiveness out of the packs a few times and is an absolute bull reminds me of Libba the way he kept on throwing hinself at the footy. Sharenberg is a tad slow but he has good smarts and his disposal is quite good. There was a kid who was intercept marking on the Half back line for SA that I thought was really good, left footer can remember his name though.

Berry was non existent again. Battle was better but still don't think he looks top 10 talent wise unless someone reaches.

Reece Piper was really important with his runs from defense. Has a good 55-60m peg in him too. Ladhams was okay in the ruck duel but is very good below his knees for his size and I liked seeing his second efforts.

Where did you watch the replay?
I was only able to record SA v VC
Yeah Berry & Battle disappointed me, Battle for a guy with top endurance should be getting to far more many contests & his forward craft isn't much better than other top forward prospects.

Nice. Yeah. I really liked the look of Fowler, was probably their only dangerous looking forward when the ball was in countries forward half.
Stengle did look dangerous to but then got a tag I believe? Was pretty quiet after half time .

Hayes went to him.

Fowler's reading of where the ball goes off the pack is elite. Tough little ******** too.

Finished watching the first quarter of the Allies v Metro game.

Venables is seriously good top 10 talent. Taranto started okay but faded. The other underage Hayes is just too big for the Allies defenders, Kerr started okay out of full forward. Taylin Duman reminds me a bit of Macrae very outside at the moment but makes the right choices and has good disposal. Took a strong contested mark at CHF too. McGrath doing his normal thing.

Agree with your assessment of Duman, but taller than Macrae at the same stage of their respective development and without the same level of production. And doesn't have his uber-elite hands either.

Better defensive game than Macrae at the same stage. Would be happy to get a player like him around the 2nd round and back in our development staff to turn him into a tall utility.

Finished watching the game. Larkey definitely has something. Very clean below his knees and quick for a big man.

Looks like we won't be seeing Junker/Brown play in the final Metro game. Since its this Wednesday, bit of a shame really.

Gollo do you reckon Larkey could do a similiar role to say Justin Westoff? Seems to have similiar traits to him.
I'd hope for him to. I feel Larks would play more like Westhoff early in his career, more as a forward/ruck possible swingman. Could see him as a late National Draft steal, pretty skinny but has looked good in the Champs with his contested marking and ruckwork. Also had a 30-odd touch game playing through the midfield in school footy I was told, so signs are good.
