Disclaimer/ Excuse

The previews have been amazing this year. Bloody swansfan51 and co setting the bar way too high

I kind of feel bad because with small children and a busy work load I haven’t spent the time I would have liked on this one.

The Game

Gold Coast Suns vs Sydney Swans

Metricon Stadium

Saturday June 4. 19.25 AEDT

Previous result

Last time we met: Round 23 2015 SCG

Sydney GCS

Q1. 6.3.39 0.2.2

Q2 9.7.61 6.3.39

Q3 11.11.77 7.7.49

Q4 19.13.127 9.10.64

Major Ball Winners for the evening were

T. Mitchell 36 touches 1 goal

D. Hannebery 32 touches 1 goal

J. Kennedy 31 touches 2 goals

S. Reid 23 touches 3 goals

H. Cunningham 18 touches 3 goals

Lance had a quiet night with 1 major and 13 possessions.

After a solid opening from the Swans, GC hit back with a 6 goal second term but could only manage 3 goals after that whilst we piled on 10 goals in the second half to come away with a solid win.

The little master (Garry Ablett) was missing through injury and hasn’t really been able to find his usual brilliance this year

Notable Stats

They have really copped some towelling’s this year…. They have lost to

West Coast by 77 Round 10

Adelaide by 75 Round 9

Giants by 91 Round 8

Dees by 71 Round 7

Geelong by 120 Round 6

Rodney Eade’s mob has been hit by injury missing 17 of their best 22 for most of their games and it shapes to get slightly better as they line up against the Bloods

What you will see:

images

Gary Ablett –
If you like football then you like watching this little guy at his best, he just goes about his business, doesn’t snipe (like Hodge or Mitchell) or prance around like he is the man, he just does his thing with grace and modesty and is a pleasure to watch. He has suffered some injuries of late and hasn’t been at his brilliant best. The poor guy just has been carry too much burden and having to speak to morons in the crowd. He really is the Jesus of the Gold Coast.

images

Isaac Heeney -
Reminds me of a little Gaz but more Fyfe like. At the tender age of 20 he is what I would want to be in a footballer, He has great one touch skills, strong overhead mark and can read the play as good as the elite and is a beautiful set shot. He will win Chas more than once. I just hope we have the luxury to leave him forward for the year

images

John Longmire covering his mouth - He shouldn’t cover just his mouth but maybe his nose too, I have never seen a nose bend in so many directions and my wife doesn’t like it. I guess with Mr Eade in the other box the most interesting part of the game might be keeping an eye on whose head is going to explode first. My bet is on a simultaneous combustion after a draw and I hope they have a head explosion cam for this one.

What you won’t see:

upload_2016-5-30_10-9-35.jpeg
Rodney Eade looking relaxed especially in the coaches’ box - Seriously this bloke loves to go off his tree, I though Longmire was bad but this guy takes the cake. Even when he coached us he was mad as a cut snake. I wonder if they regret giving Guy McKenna the boot or is injury the real reason they have been so poor.

upload_2016-5-30_10-11-59.jpeg

Gold coast kicking 6 goals in a term (like last time) –they have kicked 17,19,13,14,11,7,14,9, 11 majors this year and the stats in this department are sinking faster than the Titanic

images

Lance having a quiet game – He has had a spectacular start so far this year average 4 goals per game and has been kicking them from 80, He will want to make sure he is well on the way to 100 by the end of this one. He could really go silly this game and Kick a BIG bag but my bet he will just get his 4 and pass a few off.

Teams - TBA

Weather: Cloudy. High (95%) chance of shit loads of rain. The chance of a thunderstorm. Winds northeasterly 25 to 40 km/h tending northerly 25 to 35 km/h later. 40 - 80mm

Expectations:

I’m really expecting a blood bath, it should be a case of how much we win by BUT in the words of Millky95 Im nervous… for the following reasons…

  • We played the Tigers into some form.

  • It’s arguable that A. Stretcher played a pivotal role in us getting over the line against BrisVegas.

  • Our first half against the Bombers was a little poor.

  • We have had 2 big Friday night games.
(A Stretcher) been in ripping form upload_2016-5-30_10-14-41.jpeg

We haven’t been able to put a side to the sword, but we have never been really good at that either.

In a season where percentage could be the difference between 4th and 6th and a home final, we really should be looking to consolidate our percentage and getting a good gap on teams Like Scumthorn.

I would say Swans by 100+

Reality

They come home after being soundly beaten by the flat track bullies over there and we have come off 2 BIG Friday night games which probably plays into a flat performance by the Swans.

Im trying to think of a scenario in which they could beat us and here it is… a massive brawl breaks out at the first stoppage and with 10 Swans players being knocked out by a GC debutant they go on to win by 3 points with Garry Ablett kicking 10 of their 11 goals.

The only saving grace for GC is that this game is at Metricon.

We will most likely start slow and come home with a wet sail, I think that based on logic and the past results from the sides we should win this one.

Surely we can’t drop this one… but I guess that was said before the Tigers match.

Predictions

  • Buddy, Tippett and Heeney to kick 15 between them.

  • We are injury free from the game

  • Swans to dominate the middle

  • Sinclair to take a grab and not look goofy doing it

  • Commentary to be heavily biased toward GCS

My 3 votes go like this

  1. Heeney

  2. Kennedy

  3. Franklin

Might want to rest a few players but let's not get cocky, want a solid 4 quarter performance and hopefully bury them.

I want a 50+ point win. Let's be serious they're bad.

Big chance to go top if we beat them and then GWS.

Reid needs another week or 2 in the 2s
Can't see any changes
Really want papley to get back some how
Just not sure how he gets back in. I still dont think we can have paps and benny in the same team

I say no changes. It sounds like the kind of thing you say when your head is up in the clouds and you have no grasp on what's happening in the AFL world, but we did not have one poor player this week. If I was to consider some of the worst? Cunningham (still used his speed well), Smith (didn't have much to do really), Rohan (still popped up when needed and looked in good nick), Sinclair (same as always but tackles were terrific), McGlynn (still provided some run through the corridor and pressure up forward), Marsh (like Smith, wasn't really required to do much), Heeney (no brainer - still got the best hands, still Pendles-like composure.)

Not. One. Down. Player.

Looking at the players who could come in, it's either Papley or Teddy. It's only Gold Coast. They only have Lynch and Wright really, so Teddy's not essential. Give him a chance to recover and be completely OK. Concussion is super serious. As for Paps, you could argue for him to come in for Marsh, but I also don't quite know where Paps fits at the minute. We could chuck him up forward and just completely bombard their defence.

Either way, what a beautiful position to be in.

Papley forward, Benny mid, Marsh omitted is the only way i can see it working

Wouldnt mind giving b jack another shot this week. carving it up in the 2s. Maybe give parker a rest and let jack loose in the mids. See what he is capable of with a little freedom
Oh please god no. Hes had his opportunity. Nothing more than a good NEAFL player. I think horse knows it too, or he'd have played a game by now

Not one for resting players, but Parker looks to be struggling the past couple of weeks so maybe an opportunity to rest up.
Need to guard against complacency, as Sydney have a habit of dropping off against sides they are expected to beat easily. A good opportunity to get a Percentage booster and jump GWS.

Agree for Luke, I'm not sure if his form has coincided with that strapped knee. I would not object to resting him.

Another thing I am not against is the rotation Hawthorn did. I wonder how Mills, Heeney et al. will run out the season? We need them fit and firing come finals.

For all those people about to quote me with 'arrogance' and 'JPK - Richmond' - we never beat Richmond. We may as well rest all our players next time we play them.
