Thought i'd get a thread brewing about the uocoming state game v tasmania next month after the initial squad was announced, and from a more selfish aspect to get info about entry price info (is it just the same as your regular wafl fixture? Ie-$15)
Anyway the wafl side has performed quite well in recent years, here's hoping for another good outing. (lets be honest should be an easy win).
I genuinely get pretty interested in these 2nd tier state games, the best indicator of where each of the state comps stand to one another.

CARLTON DRAUGHT WAFL STATE SQUAD

Claremont – Darcy Cameron, Jye Bolton, Ryan Neates.

East Fremantle – Matthew Watson, Jamie McNamara, Brett Peake, George Hampson, Liam Anthony, Andrew Stephen, Brock O’Brien.

East Perth – Kyle Anderson, Paul Johnson.

Peel – Josh Bootsma.

Perth – Jared Bell, Aidan Tropiano, Clint Jones.

South Fremantle - Blayne Wilson, Marlion Pickett, Ryan Cook, Tim Kelly, Ashton Hams, Ben Saunders, Zac Strom.

Subiaco - Clancy Wheeler, Lachlan Delahunty, Declan Jackson, Aaron Heal, Kyal Horsley, Adam Cockie, Leigh Kitchin, Chris Phelan, Hamish Shepheard.

Swan Districts – Tony Notte, Justin Simpson, Matt Riggio.

West Perth – Luke Meadows, Andrew Strijk, Steven Browne, Jay Van Berlo, Aaron Black, Shane Nelson.

Finding it tough to pick a team, there are bucketloads of midfielders and bugger all tall defenders.

I suspect the below are basically locks;

Blayne Wilson -
Ashton Hams - Tony Notte - Justin Simpson

George Hampson - Hamish Shepheard - Brett Peake
Darcy Cameron - Ben Saunders
Paul Johnson -

Injuries: Anderson (would have certainly been FB)

Any thoughts or gap filling?

Not too sure how Paul Johnson gets a gig TBH.....pretty sure the likes of Mitch Andrews deserves a spot or even Angus Graham from Perth....think BOB off a half back flank with Pickett from SF will be locks as well.....De la Hunty for his around the ground presence would be better value than Johnson as well....don't get me wrong Johnson has served the state well before, but just think others deserve a gig before him on current form. Also the coaching panel is predominantly WP in experience thus can see a few of those WP boys getting a look in.

Against Tassie the ball won't get to WA's defence so it won't matter. If the WAFL don't win by 150 it will be due to playing dead after the five minute mark of the first quarter. Tasmanian football is dead, the state side wouldn't beat any club in the WAFL, SANFL, VFL or many in the NEAFL.

If Angus Graham got anywhere near a state team I'd tear up my membership Freezin ;)
It might be the one game I enjoy watching at Basso this year.....

The squad has been trimmed to 25 with the team to be announced tonight and jumper presentations held. Another three will be omitted from the squad below to come up with the final 22. Matthew Watson looks to be one of the three to miss out with a knee injury.

The TSL look set to lose Brady Jones due to several broken ribs while former Adelaide listed player Sam Siggins is also unlikely to play after walking out on his club Lauderdale last month.

No surprise at all given the disastrous state of Tasmanian football (unfortunately).
Two decades of corrupt and shambolic administration, chronic lack of funding and the AFL itself virtually turning their backs on the state as well as a "state league" which is not even remotely close to what the TFL ever was. Football here died in 1998 when the TFL went under.

Went to the game, nothing unexpected really. Tasmania just aren't on our level in terms of availability of players and access to other existing resources. Doesn't help that they can't maintain a well structured league either.

They seem to change league structures on a yearly basis.

Doesn't help their cause in regards to a Tasmanian AFL team.

The structure of the local leagues in Sydney could not have influenced the AFL in its decision to support 2 clubs in that city. The same applied in Brisbane, they both were & are pretty crappy even though now massively supported by the AFL.
What makes you wonder why the TSL, which is run by the AFL, would affect any decision on having a Tassie AFL club? Im interested to understand you logic on the relationship of club Aussie rules footy as against the professional AFL game? Especially considering the quite different levels of AFL support given to the state leagues across the country. Over to you.

Don't really care to be honest.
