F: Lamb Casboult Pickett

Thoughts?
Replace White with Phillips
Replace Lamb with Palmer
Replace Kerridge with Cuningham

*EDIT: Sumner takes Armfields spot and if we recruit Brodie, He replaces Armfield on the bench
My two cents

Pick 63 Pick 66 other rookies

Need to delist 2 more - Tutt & Whiley
Rookies will need to be delisted
Whiley - delist and re-rookie for Northern Blues
Kerbatieh - draft late or as rookie

Already Gone
Jamison, Walker, Foster, Smith, Dick, Tuohy

Might actually have an opportunity to build the Northern Blues up a bit this season which is very important. Big list turnovers the last few seasons have really hurt them which hurts our development and depth.

Ok. I'm looking at Round 1 after the draft and DFAs have come in to the club. There's a couple of players in there who I want, but mightn't even get to the club.

FB: Simpson -- Marchbank -- Plowman
HB: Docherty -- Weitering -- Barlow

C: Gibbs -- E. Curnow -- Towers
R: Phillips -- Cripps -- Murphy

HF: Sumner -- Casboult -- Wright
FF: Silvagni -- McKay -- C. Curnow

Int: Kruez -- Cuningham -- Palmer -- No.5 selection*

B: Simpson(33)-------Marchbank(20)-------Plowman(22)
HB: Byrne(22)----------Weitering(19)-------Docherty(23)
C: Kerridge(24)--------Cripps(22)---------Gibbs(28)
HF: Pickett(20)----------Rowe(29)---------C.Curnow(20)
F: Silvagni(19)---------McKay(19)--------Sumner(23)
R: Phillips(25)----------Murphy(29)-------E.Curnow(27)
Bench: Cuningham(20) Wright(27) Boekhorst(23) Palmer(28)

1. If we can draft 2 ready made midfielders with Pick #5 and Pick #25 (unlikely with this pick), I'm happy to put them straight in like Weitering last season.
2. I do not want to see Casboult or White in this team unless we have 0 options left (happy to even get a kid in there before them).
3. Rowe must go forward - outdoes Casboult in every area except contested marking. Also allows our back 3 KPD's to start to gel
4. I know this will be unpopular but I don't deem Kruezer to be a first time player anymore. The ship has sailed.
5. I'd be happy to take Barlow as an DFA for 1 - 2 seasons simply as some depth. We would also be the club he's likely get a decent shot at to play some first team football.
6. Anything less than 6 wins this season, I won't accept.

I'll have a go...

FB: Byrne* Marchbank Plowman
HB: Doc Weitering Simpson

C: Buckley Gibbs Cuningham

HF: Silvagni Levi Murphy
FF: Smedts McKay Pickett

R: Phillips Cripps C. Curnow

INT: (from) Pick5 Kreuzer Sumner E.Curnow Wright Palmer Gorringe Kerridge Rowe Armfield

- Still think Gorringe will be a player. In what position, I'm not sure.
- Charlie onball, he looks a Kouta type to me
- Backline easily top 3 in the league, if not the best.
- Lots of players who can rotate through the middle.
- Versatile forward line.
- Speed on the outside
- Bench depending on opposition and conditions.

Too far out to say and taking aboard the following assumptions:

1. All players are fit and good to go.
2. 2 rucks will continue to be played. If Casboult is to be used as the relief ruck-man things can change by more than one spot.
3. Midfield need bolstering.

Backs:
Simpson Rowe Plowman
Byrne Marchbank Docherty.....................Rowe won't just go away and will allow for other things to come about.

Midfield:
Kreuzer Cripps Murphy
Thomas Gibbs Cuningham......................If Thomas is fit, he's always best 22. Cuningham will get more opportunity.

Forwards:
Wright Weitering CCurnow
Silvagni Casboult Sumner......................Weitering to play forward. Mckay may need more time to develop.

Interchange:
ECurnow Palmer Phillips Boekhorst.........Palmer will play, I feel. Gives us an extra hard body for support.

Not ideal and maybe Kerridge should be there, but I wouldn't be surprised should Palmer take his spot and he can play at stoppages.
Smedts & Pickett? We'll have to see. Mckay may have to get some good games in the VFL first.

What I would be disappointed about though, is that others couldn't get ahead of White & Armfield through the pre-season.
Jaksch is the wild-card for me.......expecting to be disappointed, but..........fingers crossed.

I just dont get how thomas could be in our best 22. He's so far passed his best. I will be very dissapointed if he continues to get games because of his reputation/name. Now thats off my chest..

Backs: Plowman - Marchbank - Simpson
Docherty - Weitering - Buckley (bryne starts when fit)
Mids: Sumner - Cripps - Boakhurst
Kreuzer - Murphy - Gibbs
Forwards: C.Curnow - Levi - Palmer
Silvagnj - Rowe (Mckay to get games here too) - Wright

Int: Cunningham - E.Curnow - Armfield - Pick 5 (brodie/tarranto)

Few notes on the team:
- I'd like for us to settle weitering down back. If anything rowe should push forward.
- A lot of our improvement will come from the likes of silvagni, c.curnow and mckay. If they can start to be a threat up forward and actually CONVERT their opportunities we will be a vastly different side. Must give them games/manage them when they need a rest. They're the future.
- defense just looks solid as a rock on paper. We'll have to think of a replacement for simpson at some point in the season too.
- our starting midfield is good. But one or 2 injuries and we're struggling again. Palmer will add experience, cunningham, boakhurst and sumner really need to step up another lvl though if we are to come near the eight.

I wonder if we pump games into Philips with a view of him being out no.1 ruck in 2018

Kruz is a FA (again) at the end of next year.

It's time we start looking for our next number 1 ruck so I'm all for giving Phillips a year to see how he handles the duty.

B: Simpson Weitering Plowman
HB: Docherty Marchbank Scrimshaw

R: Phillips Gibbs Murphy
C: Cuningham Cripps Smedts

HF: Kerridge Rowe Charlie
F: Sumner McKay Silvagni

Int: Palmer Curnow Pickett Wright

Byrne inj.

Modern football is run, numbers & flexibility.
Rowe is a big bodied fwd/ruck
Number of players that can play tall or small
Lots of midfield rotations and numbers around the ball

Hope picks 25 and up bring good young players as well

This is more so how I would like to see us structure up rather than how I think we will actually lineup. Not factoring in draftees or DFA at this stage.

FB: Marchbank -- Rowe -- Plowman
HB: Buckley -- Weitering -- Simpson

C: Pickett -- Gibbs -- Docherty
R: Kreuzer -- Cripps -- Murphy

HF: Silvagni -- Casboult -- C. Curnow
FF: Wright -- McKay -- Palmer

Int: Kerridge -- E. Curnow -- Sumner --Cuningham

Justifications:
Defence - Rowe retains his spot in the defence to handle the bigger forwards whilst Weitering, Marchbank, and Plowman develop/add on size. Some might say playing all four could make us a little top heavy but I disagree. Plowman and Marchbank are both more naturally intercept/rebounding type defenders than purely shutdown backmen. Buckley takes the place of Byrne until he recovers from his ACL injury and should be able to play on the oppositions small forward. Simpson to provide rebound as he always does.

Midfield - Would like to see Kreuzer be the main ruckman and to stay there 85% of the game. He plays his best footy when he is the sole ruckman. Casboult to give a chop-out when needed. Cripps, Murphy, and Gibbs line up in the guts. Pickett on a wing to provide explosive run and carry between the arcs. Docherty to be the other wingman. The time is right for his transition into becoming a midfielder. He has all the tools to succeed.

Forwards - This is where we look weak. McKay, Curnow, and Silvagni should all be given as much time in the side as they can handle, whilst being protective of them at first sign of fatigue. Casboult holds his spot. Need a bigger body down there and he at the very least provides a presence. Palmer and Wright to be crafty small forwards who will spend small stints running through the midfield.

Bench - Kerridge, Curnow, Cuningham and Sumner to all provide midfield support. Kerridge and Sumner to spend time forward at times. It's highly likely we see Thomas take a spot here though. Would not be surprised to see Boekhorst, Smedts, or Armfield make it in either.

If we finished 8th it would be a minor miracle. Unfortunately we're not quite there yet.

Funny though that this time last year, most opposition supporters were saying we wouldn't win a single game and were a lock in for the spoon.

Byrne is injured long term. 2017 is almost a write off for him apart from towards end of season.
Be amazed if we ended up 8th. Gorringe is certainly not best 22 at all. Hope you are right about his improvement but not hanging my hat on it.
11th to 17th is where I expect us to be with lack of ready to play talent we have.
Whilst we still have guys like Rowe, White, Thomas and Everitt playing most weeks we are still a way off even approaching finals contention. We have to be patient as we build this list up to something decent, year by year.
I think 2018 is when we start to make real inroads when Byrne is fully back and guys like last years draftees have finished their 3rd pre-season and Jarrod Pickett should be fully over injuries and ready to rock at this level.

I agree. Weitering and Marchbank are very similar. One will be played forward and it would probably be Weitering.

Still very light on for mids.

Let's pray Palmer & Smedts surprise, Kerridge tidies up his hands and kicking, we get a mid like De Boer/Barlow for free and pick 5 is a ready to go player like Brodie.
