To add to that, he also came off a very limited pre season and was his first real season as a full time mid. Interesting to see what he can do with a full pre season under his belt.

Yep, Steele still 21 years old and had no pre season this year. Is a beast and has a tank. I recon he is way under rated outside saints circles (although strangely, I think Dermie loves him). If he steps up this year, as he should being another year older and having a full pre season... he will be a very very good player IMO

I've added Champion Data's player rankings that were released today and also Cal Twomey has updated his rankings for the final time;

Higgins the big mover. Clark enters the top 10 mids, and some new guys in Stefan Giro from SA and small fwd/mid Brent Daniels.

Now the top 29 midfielders in the draft.

loving your work... Is Brett Anderson Big Board on there? I recon he also gives pretty good ratings.. had Gresh at around 5 from memory

Thanks mate....if you have a link I can add them in for you.

isnt that what i originally said? he played the champs as a HBF then transitioned into an inside mid?

One of my mates who's involved with the Stingrays said that Clark has been playing nothing but midfield for ten years but he had a minor injury at the start of this year so the Stingrays played him off half back for a couple of games to keep him out of harm's way prior to the Championships. But he played so well down back that they put him there for the Champs.

When he came back to the Stingrays he went straight back into the midfield and continued to dominate. So it sound like he's probably played 200 odd games in the guts over his junior career and maybe six or so on a back flank, so rather than transitioning into the midfield he's already a natural on-baller.

He's not the best mid in this draft but at pick 8 he will probably be the best pure mid left by that pick.

Clark and Bonar a real possibility according to some......especially if all of Brayshaw, Cerra, Coffield are gone. Not sure on Stephenson if the rumours are true and we're hesitating due to the heart issue.

Does ******mare have contacts? Because he's mentioned something along the lines that we are favouring others ahead of Stephenson, so it's no guarantee we take him if he's there

Wonder what it says about our faith in Goddard that we've gotten in Austin and are also looking at someone else who plays key defence in the draft?
We already have 4 KPD's on our list, I don't remember having that many at once in 10 years, 5 would be a bonanza!

I wonder if this public announcement is a power play to force Collingwoods hand? After 6, they don't pick again until 38.. 4 picks after our 2nd round pick. By putting it out there that we're after KPDs, it may force Collingwood to bite the bullet on Naughton and even Fogarty at 6 to ensure they don't miss out, wallah - slider at 7.

Pass on a KP at 6, and there's only very slim pickings left at 38, as you'd expect Brander, Balta, Allen will have all gone

Edit -

This adds to the pressure on Collingwood to take a KP early

Brown f/son eating up their 3rd rounder would be a disaster for their KP stocks should they go a mid with 6. Clearly they weren't banking on a bid before then either since they loaded up with 3x 4th round picks (56, 61, 70) to pay for Brown... In this scenario, we would have 4 selections before Collingwood's 2nd pick, so if we did want to gobble up whats left of KPD's we could, leaving nothing for Collingwood...

6 Coll (aka Take Naughton now or risk nothing)
7 St K
8 St K
34 St K
38 Coll F/S(possible Brown bid)
45 St K
56 Coll

Surely not
I would be surprised on footballing ability and team needs, but perhaps the cardiac risk is too much? Especially if we really like Bonar, we can't be taking two risks.

It’s pretty crazy when you think we basically have 8 new players that can all come into the senior side this year.

The 4 draft picks, plus McCartin, Goddard, Freezer and Battle are all fresh recruits if their bodies are fine. None have played a proper season and all highly rated draft picks.
Plus, as Finnis said yesterday, White and Rice, who were both banging down the door this year, but due to circumstances only played the 3 games between them.

The big knock on both of them in their draft year was their endurance, so you'd hope that if they get through their 3rd preseason they'd be much fitter for it, and even more ready to play and contribute than this year.

Then there's Ben Long, who was meant to be pretty fatigued from playing in so many different comps leading up to joining us, who will hopefully have had a good break this time around.

Between them, the following played just 15 AFL games this year: Armo, Paddy, Goddard, Freeman, White, Long, Rice and Battle.

Depending on who we draft with the two later pix, it could be that just about everyone on our senior list will be ready to play and contribute next year. Especially if we happen to get Hartung at 45, which I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to.

Guys I think I've decided I want some Bonar. Who's with me?!

With pick 8 that is... Pick 7 best mid available.
I'm with you. He's the one that I just keep coming back to as wanting, in particular if there is only one "slider" (or none).

Basically if we get him, I'm not going to be too fussed who we get with the other pick, as I'll be so pumped that we got him.

He's my Powell-Pepper for this year, unless say two like Cerra and Stephenson or Brayshaw by some miracle are avail.

From Brett Anderson's latest power ranking the letter C looms large.

5. Charlie CONSTABLE – Sandringham Dragons
DOB: 18/5/99 | Ht: 190.3cm | Wt: 83.5kg | Medium Midfielder

Constable isn’t going to wow with his athleticism, but when it comes to footy smarts, composure, competitiveness and production, there aren't too many (if any) better.

The nephew of Mick Malthouse has elite hands and vision in the contest and stands tall when tackled. He struggled with a groin injury late in the year but was still the top rated player in the TAC Cup Grand Final despite having his game time managed.

Big Board 1.0 Ranking: 4

6. Adam CERRA – Eastern Ranges
DOB: 7/10/99 | Ht: 185.9cm | Wt: 79.5kg | Medium Midfielder

Cerra is another who’s season was cut short by a shoulder injury, but his quality was there for all to see with the Ranges – and Wesley in school foot. He can win the ball inside and out and gets from contest to contest very well.

He is rated by Darren Bewick as the best kid he’s coached in his time at Eastern – some wrap considering the names that have preceded him.

Big Board 1.0 Ranking: 5

7. Nick COFFIELD – Northern Knights

DOB: 23/10/99 | Ht: 190.2cm | Wt: 82.6kg | Utility

The Northern Knights captain was a strong perfomer in the national championships and continued that level of consistency through to the end of the TAC Cup season.

He has played in all three zones, but looks most comfortable running off half back where his speed, decision making and kicking are a genuine threat. At the next level, some feel he’ll end up as an inside midfielder.

Big Board 1.0 Ranking: 8

I can imagine the firestorm that might erupt if we went for a Constable-Coffield double. The C-word could well make an appearance.

Yeah, it's potentially great the way things have worked out that way.

I was looking in the corresponding thread on the Pies board last night and I noticed that Pies 4 Life (Bishop's mate from Draft Central, who does their big individual write-ups) said that Balta is not expected to go until the mid 30's.

It didn't register with me immediately, as I was thinking about it from a Collingwood perspective and how they'd just miss out at 38 if he did, but then I remembered that we have a pick in the mid 30's and are looking for a "KPD", so I wonder if we'll land him?

That would be pretty exciting I reckon, as he is the type that "could be anything", with that amazing athleticism he has, the thunderous boot and the versatility to potentially play all 18 positions on the ground.

Coffields preference is St Kilda, even though he barracks for Bulldogs and one of his best mates plays at Bulldogs. Thats how much of an impression our recruiters made on him and his family.
Remember Wines parents giving our recruiters a wrap also.

Want so badly. Will be very disappointed if we dont draft
