Well it depends where we finish. Would the Lions definitely take him with #1? There's still a lot to play out until draft time, but if we end up with Rayner instead I won't complain.

Me neither, but with the comp so close and with a couple more wins id think theres every chance we finish with a pick in the 4-7 range because of % to which id think either player will be gone

On sen today they were saying how poor this draft might be, saying last year there were 70 kids worthy of picking and right now this year it's just 29, adding that 2018 indeed looks like a super draft. Might be why SOS was happy to trade away our second rounder.

Even still it is hard to see us willingly going to the draft with no picks in the first two rounds so I'd expect us to keep our first and not trade for a Hopper or Kelly type unless we get back into the early part of the draft (Gibbs pick maybe).

If the draft is that poor then it is hard to see us being rapt if we get a pick around 35-45 for Cas. Going to be an interesting off season. Expect clubs to hold their first rounders and try to trade into next years draft. Maybe we try and trade Cas for a 2018 pick.

The other good thing about 2018 being a potent draft is it means clubs will be less likely to bid a very early pick on Ben SOS. So we might get him without having to use a super early pick. That would be awesome.

How's this then...

Gibbs - Lever - Hopper three way. We get Hopper and D. Smith and a salary dump as a sweetener to GWS. Some other club gets Lever.

Cas traded for a second rounder in 2018.

2017 OUT
Gibbs
Cas

2017
Pick 4
Hopper
D. Smith
Pick 40
Pick 58

2018 SUPERDRAFT
Pick 6
Bensos (second rounder)
Pick 35-45 (Cas pick)
Pick 42
Pick 60

Casboult is a free agent. Which club in their right mind would trade for him, when you can get him for free.
If Gibbs goes to the crows and by some miracle Hopper leaves and chooses us, why not just give them the pick we get from the crows. No need to involve Lever or another club.

Anything to report?

Will do a full report when i am back in Melbourne, but a couple of things

Cerra was a standout, will play next year, very clever, great hands and awareness. Will be able to rest forward and be dangerous, beautiful kicking action

Stoddart was a surprise packet, quick, beautiful left foot, great leap

Petrucelle, lightening quick, reads the play well

England is very smart, set up very well, takes the game on and breaks lines

Rayner very composed, seemed like he didn't want to get out of second gear though

Penrith is very clever, good forward pressure

Ameduri, very tough, great repeat efforts

Allen knows when and where to lead, sticky fingers, but maybe not agile enough for a 3rd tall, if he grew to 194, i would believe he would be a very good forward

Higgins gets a lot of the pill, but was not always clean or damaging

Disappointments

Hayes no presence as a forward, not overly impressed with his ruck work

Stephenson was very quiet

Balta needs to keep his feet more, slow reflexes

I think we might get a bargain with penrith.

IF gibbs goes, its a pick in the top 10 this year and a first next year or gtfo crows.

Wouldn't that be to our advantage though hopeful room for improvement already sussed out. Best case scenario is a free hit in the rookie draft isn't it?

What was his kicking like?
Have heard it can be indifferent at times.

Need to see more of him before i could peg him with a range. He needs to show some composure and balance and his kicking will be okay. Does have some sharpness around the ball

I've heard that it's "middle of the road".
Not great, but not terrible either.

Never before have the 17 year olds get talked about more than eligible draftees in that year.
Just feels like we've skipped this year already. :)

Wonder how we'll play things, given we don't have a second. Do we even want one?

Find it staggering that people are dismissing this year's draft and suggesting that next year is a super draft.

As an example, people were talking up Hayes last year because he was All Australian and a year on he hasn't really fired a shot. Also remember people talking up Macreadie and Strnadica as top 10 picks. We should not dismiss this year just yet
