When he mentioned forwards it may not mean KPF.

If we nab Rayner (forward/ mid) at 3 it will be a pure mid at 10
If we take LDU or Dow at 3 he might be inclined to go Higgins (forward/ mid), Stephenson (forward/ mid) or Fogarty (half forward/ half back)
I didn't say it did, necessarily, but drafting Brander may mean a shift in the dynamics of the forward line and free-up the likes of Curnow. I'd have Fogarty as a preference but, at the risk of endlessly repeating myself, it would be silly to knock back a KPF if he was considered the best player at that pick.

Higgins is special. Footy smarts. Plays the front half of the ground. Has brilliant skills and takes contested grabs as a short fella. Still think he could be the best player in the draft.
If we want a short guy, Daniels will be there at 30. Arguably more talented, but also more tiny.

Me neither, given SOS's mention of forwards and the fact that Brander may actually be considered the best available at that pick, depending on who the other clubs want.
The articles I've seen mention the word 'attack' rather than 'forward', so that might be a hint as to the kinds of mids we might look at.

Poor? He will not last until pick10
He might not last, but I am not a fan. Goes at near 50% by foot.

As a player whose key attraction is speed and endurance he needs to use it better.

It's a recipe for Kerridge imo

If he makes it to 30, I'm confident we'd pick him.

Nicnat kinda is the midfield version of Nicnat, he's just bulked up a lot in recent seasons (and surprise, surprise, did his ACL).

This kid is more like what everyone was hoping Will Brodie would be.

SOS being at a Haileybury game doesn't mean too much given how much talent they have spread over the next two drafts.

King brothers, Bonar, Brayshaw, LDU... it's a long list.

Totally right mate some good prospects at Haileybury this and next year, throw in Clavarino too. But I've heard all year that we were high on Constable, not enough to take him at #3 but now after acquiring another first it's no longer a reach. Of course this is just speculation but I certainly won't be shocked if he's the one we take.

I think Hayes can skip to 10 and we take him potentially. We have no young ruckman. I know you can sometimes find one late etc. But I like the look of Hayes.

I also really like Charlie Constable. But might be a bit early him at 10. Hmmm

Agree , but have a feeling Brayshaw will be gone 7 to 9 range.
Higgins be available because of his size and height but we have a few in the side already.
Higgins strikes me as the type who could come on in a rush, in a similar way to which Zorko did at the Lions.

If he is there at 10 & you let him slip past, you may end up kicking yourself over & over again.

It really worries me when there is a groundswell of confidence regarding a player Carlton might pick with a particular selection. I'm talking about the type of players that might be considered a little bit of a reach or a bit 'safe' by others but are popular on our forums for whatever reason and it is proved prophetic that we go on to draft them. We have almost never had any luck with any of them. They almost never justify their draft position and most often fail altogether. It's not as if I know much about these players beforehand but I have noticed a pattern. Is it that the club and fans are happy with their meat and potatoes lest they miss out altogether, or what? I don't know where it comes from but I think I'll call it the Carlton curse.

Examples?

It'll be constable at 10. Lock it in. Dow or Rayner at 3.

I like Constable a lot , just concerned that we will already have 2 inside mids with Cripps and Kennedy . You see the difficulty of west coast playing both Mitchell and Priddis at the same time . I think we need more midfield speed

Agreed, and we don't have a player like him . He is much stronger over the ball than Fisher who will ultimately play more outside. I really see Higgins as a young Joel Selwood with his playing style and determination. He can use his smarts and strength to out mark much bigger opponents

Cripps, Kennedy, constable, dow inside (PC rotating forward with curnow), fisher, murphy, SPS outside.

We also have Ed (inside + tagging), Boekhurst (outside/wing - I have a feeling he will get there), graham (inside/outside/forward depth), kerridge (inside/outside/tagging), docherty (HBF/outside/wing), polson (murphy clone).

I think inside mids is the way to go. We have our KP sorted maybe a extra forward next year in lukosius/king. Once we have the inside strength and KP depth that's when you can bring the cream on the outside and small forward positions. Look at sos at GWS if waa amazing how good they looked inside when they first started year 1-2. We are following the same path for continued top 4 finishes like they are doing now. With ease. They didn't even look that good this year but they still made the top 4. Every year now they trade out KP depth or midfield depth for more first round draft picks. That's what Carlton willlook like 2019-20 onwards.

We just need a Rayner or a Kelly or a lynch to complete the puzzle (the cream).

Just can't see any talls coming in this year and it would be a major surprise should we opt for Brander.

Feel it will be a mid @ 3 and a mid @10, given we've lost Gibbs and only really acquired Kennedy through trade.
Fair to say that just for now, that's a net loss in the midfield department and sure the likes of SPS, Fisher, Cuningham will pick up a gear, but we're still running very thin on genuine mids.
You don’t rate Lang?

There was a ‘groundswell’ on BF for Brodie at our first pick last year.
We did not select him and we did not fail with selecting SPS either.
Not many had Fisher at our second pick and he looks a good choice too.

I think we are reasonably ok for pace with Williamson, Cuningham, Murphy, SPS, the Curnows, Fisher, Lang and Pickett.

I can confidently say that we'll come away with at least one Haileybury boy in our selections. :)
