Risky pick but he seems to be very confident in the knee with the way he plays. Draft smokey perhaps?

Watched Kane (and there was someone else also) being taught how to run in a different manner.
What I didn't like is just how disinterested the fitness staff/coaches seemed to be, with their back to Kane observing what the rest of the guys were doing up the field, only occasionally turning around just to tell him he's doing it wrong.

Strength gains were a clear focus for McLean. He was always running laps dragging weights behind him on a sled. Trying to build up his size and tank.

Surgical techniques are improving all the time, and he's young. He's clearly done the physio properly and then done all the right work.

Top 10 for sprints and agility at the combine. The agility test is pretty taxing on the knees and ankles.

Yes, his failed career was due to fitness staff and coaches teaching him to run differently.

Stronger maybe. I'm not sure you'd elect to go through the trauma of reconstruction if of sound mind- easier to add a few extra squats and lunges to the leg routine. Always a concern down the track that there may be swelling on a regular basis.

I know they're pretty confident on shoulders coming through better, but knees have a lot more force applied through them, and resultantly I doubt anything interfering with the flexibility of the leg and the nature/spacing of the joint surface of the knee leaves it the same.

They might have medical technology in the coming years that they can insert that helps with post-op healing and joint support, but right now it's just refining surgical techniques to minimise trauma and scarring, then rehab. People are just more vigilant about their activity.

Yup, and they'll be doing that same physio regardless, usually at the expense of a little speed and agility.

Cal Twomeys podcast tonight was on all the latest movements and whispers(although he stated it was a week too early for solid whispers yet). He seemed to have a bit of a read on Carltons thinking.

Seems to think we are hoping for D.Fog to get to 10 and he thinks that is a good chance with North at 4 the only real danger. His others mentioned for us were Clark and maybe O'Brien. He seems pretty confident that Constable will get to Sydney at 14 at least(his GPS numbers must really be shizen as rumoured). Also doesn't see us risking Bonar at 10 either.

From what i gathered from it:

He didn't discuss 1,2, 3 much at all which i gather to infer it is Rayner, LDU and Dow in some order.

After that:

4. Cerra or maybe Fogarty but doubtful
5. Brayshaw to Freo
6. They'd like one of the mids to drop. If not, maybe Naughton
7&8. Coffield and maybe Clark. Or Brayshaw if he drops
10. Fogarty or Clark or maybe O'Brien.

Not buying the Murphy and Bonar hype.(sticking with his academy boys? lol)

Nothing definitive yet but these are his thoughts atm.

I think a bit of that has to do with him being a pretty tall guy with fluid movement, he glides rather than explodes. Also helps Pendlebury that he's got pretty good special awareness and seems to put himself into a position where he knows he has enough time to comfortably dispose of the ball moreso than the Danger/Dusty/etc moves where they break away, there's either some aggressive running to clear the contest or sharp steps laterally into space. You see similar comparisons in rugby where some guys find space by beating their defensive opponent face-to-face through stepping or breaking the tackle in contact while others are more adept at creating that space through the lines they run, a decision made prior to entering the contact zone with the defender. Pendlebury is more akin to the latter.

I also find smaller guys with shorter strides and a more aggressive running style normally look quicker, particularly if they're changing direction or breaking away from packs, it's the relative perception of speed and movement. It's even more exaggerated on tv where we're often focussed in on the contest without seeing anything in the peripherals or background.

We'd have a huge headache trying to fit Rayner, Fogarty, Charlie, SOSOS & McKay into one team.

Rayner and Fogarty both play far better as forwards than in other positions, with Rayner in particular not having the tank to play midfield.

Can't see those 5 in one forward line working which would mean we've burned some top picks.
Need mids.
