Very skillful, not sure i would use pick 10 on a pure flanker, 3rd tall
He's very raw and doesn't have the body yet for anything else than a 3rd tall/flanker at this stage. But looks like he has the body to put on size. I see him as a midfielder down the track.
I don't rly like project players but he looks a gem

I actually think the Fyfe comparison is a good one

Higgins is more professional with a better work ethic than other kids so he has less scope for improvement.

Is this argument similar to the man child one, where because a kid is bigger and stronger than other kids, he has less scope for improvement.

Both these arguments can be very flawed. Holding a kids determination, work ethic and professionalism against him is an interesting twist. Personally l think it will hold Higgins in really good shape for AFL.

Ps. Higgins isn’t my first option for pick 10 but ld be surprised if he let any club down when taken around that mark.

Yeah, we should draft lazy footballers as they have the most upside if they start working hard!

#amidoinitrite?

Sort of works if you project 2 years from now when Casboult is out of the 22, Rowe is retired, and Charlie is roaming everywhere. The Wright replacement is the missing piece IMO.

Don't disagree with that, just think there are guys currently on our list that can play that 3rd/medium tall forward on our list. If SOS is still look for this type of player, a guy like Jackson Ross should be available at pick 30, as I would use pick 10 on best available midfielder

Big call, possible

His 20 metre sprint of 3.16 seconds is a concern, even a kid like Constable is quicker, despite people saying he has "concrete boots" and has more versatility. Fogarty is another that has just as much scope to be elite, if not already there.

Fogarty is def my preferred option at 10 but if he's gone I think I'd prefer someone like Murphy to Richards

Understandable

I think there could be some sliders at 10, which is exciting.

If I had a choice of Murphy or Richards only at 10, I would go Richards, who has already shown he is effective as an inside mid

Thing is isn't Fogarty another 3rd tall/medium tall type of forward? But more of a marking player than ground level crumber?

If so, we already have Charlie & SOSOS who fit that description...despite the talent, I don't think it would be an effective forward line having all of Fogarty, Charlie, SOSOS & McKay in one forward line...they are all marking players. Not to mention Casboult and Kerr.

Has quite a bit of Fyfe in him.

Looks good enough to eventually transition into a midfielder, who will float up forward a goal or two a game. He has a really nice kick and is excellent overhead.

I think he's got more scope to develop into a full-time mid than Richards.

Family member ran into Lachie O'Brien today, said he's very confident he'll be picked up by us at 10.

Personally I'd rather Fogarty, Clarke or Stephenson and you can assume of course it depends on who slips/is still available, just thought I'd pass it on.

Think this could be a very astute pick up. He's a very good footballer just hope the queries on his inside game are exaggerated. I know he's stated on multiple occasions he would like to improve on that area

I know his endurance is elite, how's his speed?
He's an accomplished 400m runner, so I think it's safe to say he's got an elite speed/endurance mix.

My concern is how outside he is, but he's definitely not far off top 10 calibre.

Recruiting O'Brien is consistent with our drafting strategy. We rarely look for the sliders. We selected one player we think is very likely to be there at our Pick and do a heap of homework on them to make sure they're a good fit. It's why our selections are often picked out so far in advanced.

I don't think his inside game is too much of a concern given he plays as an outside midfielder, which we're really lacking.

He's certainly not soft either.

Hunter Clark is a better option if we're looking for that kind of player, but from the sounds of it, he'll be gone by 10.

By the same token, we're not really ripping the ball out of the stoppage and feeding it the outside players without Cripps having a blinder.

Kennedy adds support, but we need spread from the stoppage to generate space for these outside types. O'Brien definitely has the running power to bring some of that, but I'm still a little shaky on his midfield prospects.

I'd prefer Bonar to bring similar speed while creating a mismatch or playing a role at at the stoppage. I'd also back him to withstand the bump when going in for a loose ball contest.

Why would we settle on a player that far down in the order when they don't know who will be available, it doesn't make any sense. It sounds like another example of Carlton mythologising a player they know will be available. That sort of crap has plagued the club for years and it has only worked once.
