I'm a bit disappointed, I think another club could've taken him higher than our pick & meant we had an extra player as an option

I still expect that we trade this years pick anyway.
It wouldn't surprise me, but I would be disappointed that we'd miss out on any chance of getting Coffield. He fits us so well it's quite unbelievable, I'd hate to pass up on him and see him become a star.

I'd like to get Coffield as well, but I'm thinking I agree with Bishops latest draft rankings to some extent and it has Coffield going at pick #6.
We are currently looking at pick #8. Good chance we are going to miss out on Coffield.

By extra player I meant Coffield

I was trying to be subtle
:p

In a perfect world, our draft haul looks something like this in my opinion (in no particular order):
  1. Big (185+) wingman. Capable overhead, good skills. Good runner (ability to cover ground and present for uncontested ball my primary focus, but some foot speed would also be well received).
  2. Developing key forward. Athletic. Good+ forward intelligence.
  3. High defender who excels at ground level. Good+ skills. Preferably not too small.
  4. Natural small/medium forward. Proven goal kicker at some level.
  5. Inside midfielder with some acceleration. Neat skills.
Would love 2-3 names to follow for each category if anybody is able to do so. Not fussed with likely draft range but would prefer them to be spread out and not all first round talent.

1. Big wingman

- Nick Coffield (5-10 draft range), although he's more of a versatile defender than a pure wingman.
- Max Dreher (40+ range) not super tall at 183cm, but fits all the other criteria and has a 16.1 beep.
- Matthew Ling (late first-second round) is lightning quick and wins outside ball.

2. Developing KPF

- Noah Balta (first round likely) although he's best suited as an attacking KPD, can go in the ruck as well, footy smarts not one of his strengths but very athletic.
- Toby Wooller (second-third round), 193cm athletic KPF, really smart and productive, major scope to play in the midfield as well.

there would definitely be others, although none that I'm too familiar with

3. High defender

- Lachie Murphy (late range) very stiff to miss out on selection last year, although small at 179cm he is highly productive and an excellent user by foot. Has performed strongly at senior SANFL level as a 19-year-old.
- Ethan Penrith (maybe 2nd-4th round), again small at ~180cm, spoken about as the best tackler in the TAC Cup, is quick and a damaging ball user. Can play more defensive too. Not one of my favourites, personally, but is rated quite highly.
- Ryley Stoddart (national draft range likely), not one I know a whole lot about, but looked very assured and composed as a defender for Vic Metro in the champs. Plays deeper, but his composure and smarts with ball in hand stood out.

4. Small/medium forward

- Gryan Miers (40+ imo), fits our needs perfectly in the small forward department. Does okay with his defensive pressure, but his goal sense and energy is unmatched. Has performed strongly at TAC Cup and U18 Champs levels.
- maybe Brent Daniels (40+ probably), definitely shows a knack for finding the goals, and is powerful, but I haven't seen an awful lot of him.
- Dylan Moore (second-third round) is one of my favourites in the pool. He's a 175cm inside midfielder with exceptional contested ball-winning, but although he's not a primary small forward, he showed really good signs throughout the Champs. Would start his career up forward at AFL level akin to Jade Gresham in 2016.

5. Inside midfielder

- Zac Bailey (second-third round) is small at 180cm and slight, but has terrific energy at the coalface and shows strong ability to will contested ball and burst with speed. Skills look mostly sound, can tend to make slightly rushed decisions though.
- Jack Petruccelle (late first-second round), has electrifying speed and good size, best suited to playing as a bullocking inside mid but had a poor U18 Champs playing as an outside mid. Not overly productive, will need to find more of the ball, and is not a reliable user by foot.
- Paddy Dow (first round), would like for him to win more of the footy, rarely posting 20+ disposal games, but has real power out of the contest and strong contested ball-winning. Starred for Vic Country at the U18 Champs.

Really liking the look of Gryan Miers from the Falcons, averaging 3 goals a game this season, sitting second on the goal kicking with 29.16. With the seeming decline of Dickson's output and Stringer's inconsistencies I reckon Miers should be one we have a real look at. A genuine small forward prospect who hits the scoreboard. Kicked 5.4 on the weekend and would most likely be available around late 2nd-4th round

Great news! I was getting worried he was falling off the map. But he's been consistently in the bests for GWV so it makes sense he'd go the combine.

How do the numbers for this combine match up to previous years? I reckon it'd be smaller, as I expect clubs would have more varied player rankings.

It looks smaller than in the past & especially light on talls, I expect a few talls that people had pegged for outside of the first round going a lot higher

This far out, I'm already extremely curious where players like Oscar Allen end up going on draft night. If clubs think he could rotate through the midfield, he might quickly rise up the order like Griffin Logue did last year

I reckon first round for sure

It is varied. But the talls are not of the same caliber as previous years.

There is a few more rucks I reckon with the 19yo's Meek (202cm) and Reeves (207cm - this isn't a typo) named.

Personally I think that its a crap amount to be coming out of SA, no comments about the quality but watching the last few years of championships. SA play a very uncontested style of footy & I think it has been killing them from getting players drafted.

We've seen it so much in the past that normally if a player can't win the contested ball then they find it harder to transition to AFL

I think SA place too much importance on building teams to win the U18 Championships rather than developing draftable players. It doesn't really help their reputation as an AFL-playing state, and in recent times it hasn't even helped them do particularly well in the Champs despite having quite a few top-end players.

Yeah, I think that you're right

It just baffles me that they don't seem to place these kids in the best position to be drafted

Think I heard Kevin Sheehan say something like that 80% of the draftees will be from the TAC, I wouldn't be shocked if it was a little bit higher than that to.

it is not as good as previous years. SA has had a pretty lean year this year. Expect them to bounce back next year.

Quite a few players named from VM and VC that didn't play any champs.

Dont know about you guys but I want Aiden Bonar just for the name. Although in all seriousness, does he go alright?

Curious, Parish isn't on the list of draft invitees and I assume he was a chance to be drafted given he has been in the Falcons bests a few times and was considered a top 50 player before the season. Drop off in form or clubs don't rate him?

He just isn't that much of a player, the only thing going for him is maybe his size.

But if guys like Schoenfield can get drafted like last year for having a really high endurance, he might be a small chance if he has those athletic traits.
