his junior highlights, yeah.

I've felt for a while now that player comparisons were a silly thing honestly and can set false expectations.
As long as you don't expect them to be too accurate I think they can be helpful. For example I'm not expecting him to be exactly like Toby Greene, but being compared to him over other players gives me an idea of what position he could play for us. I really just want to know how suitable he'll be as a small forward and seeing that Greene is the comparison gives me a sense that he might be.

I'd feel incredibly uncomfortable if we took him at our very first, we play a pretty short team already

Hrovat was supposed to be the next Sam Mitchell to, so yeah.

Chris Jones from Box Hill could be a good late pick.Could he help us out in the forward half.I hope he maybe another Ben Brown story.

Yeah that's why I want to be assured of his small forward game because it's the small mids like Hrovat we don't need more of. Dedicated small forward we could use though.

I want one of Sambono and Miers, I want Dixon and I want either Naughton or another good KD. Was thinking of our draft like this:
Pick 9: Naughton
Pick 26: Dixon
Pick 39: Miers/Sambono

Garner looks good enough to be higher but I rank players with midfield games a bit higher than flankers that don't.

Interested to see where McCartin and Butts go both are absolute babies.

Callum Porter is one of my favorite later pick. Can easily see the team that drafts him get big rewards.
Porter grandfather played for Hawthorn i think.

Clavirino is another good KPD

I'm leaning towards Allen if Coffield is gone by our first, think he is far superior to Hayes & Brander.

Yes me too, I've really come to like him. Undersized at this point but feels like more of a pure forward.

Unpopular opinion but after going back over the videos of the players who could be available at 9 there's a clear standout in my opinion.

Andrew Brayshaw.

He is quite a bit better than the rest. Has:

1. Intial burst of speed
2. Long kick and good kick
3. Strong tackler
4. 15.2 beep
5. Gets to the right spots to crumb/rove and gets first hands on the footy a lot.

Don't think Naughton has the raw talent to be worthy of pick 9. If we were looking for another tall option I'd prefer Oscar Allen or even Stephenson, but otherwise I'd be leaning towards Coffield or Constable still.

Only real downside is his slightly smaller size. I still have Constable above him as pure inside mids, mostly due to his better physical presence in the contest, but the points you make are very convincing. Coffield remains my first choice for 9, but I would have no problems with Brayshaw making a case.

Asked this before but got no replies (gotta learn not to post at 4am). Keen to get people's opinions.

What do people think of Higgins as a permanent small forward? Worth taking him high for that role? I'm a bit meh on him as a midfielder but Toby Greene comparisons got me intrigued. I'd have him higher in my rankings if that was a realistic option.

After watching him live on Saturday, I'd say no. He has excellent hands above his head like Greene and took 2 very good marks above his head on Saturday. Still ran around in a Lewis Taylor kind of way, having limited impact with his disposal. Lacks that real presence, physicality and aggression in the contest as Dav1d said.

I'd only be looking at Fogarty for that small midfielder role, as his tackling is elite and, combined with his goal sense (not as good as Higgins', but still) he could make a really successful defensive forward early in his career. Higgins doesn't have the defensive instincts I'd want us to be looking for in a midfielder.

Depends if we want an extractor or a burst player. Brayshaw is the burst inside type, Constable is more a player who uses strength.

Fogarty also has very good disposal so it would help our i50 to no end.

1. Lions. Dow
2. Gold Coast. Rayner
3 Carlton. Davies Uniacke
4. North Melbourne. Cerra
5. Fremantle. Naughtan
6. Collingwood. Fogarty
7. St Kilda. Coffield
8. St Kilda. Hayes
9. Western Bulldogs.

Make a case for 3 players you'd take at this pick, why you think they'd suit us & a few of their cons.

Was going to say I see Higgins as a slower version of Lewis Taylor.

I'm being real critical of him, but I get the feeling he could end up a player that dominates VFL but cant convert it to AFL long term.

I'll say just on a gut feel, I would prefer Lachie Fogarty over Jack Higgins. But maybe that's just me.

Andrew Brayshaw -

Pros - Burst Speed, clearance king, Long kick, very good disposal for an inside mid, elite endurance, strong tackler.
Cons - size (182cm)

Charlie Constable

Pros - good disposal, good in clearances, Tall, good tackler, high production, can play back

Cons - lack of leg speed

Jaidyn Stephenson

Pros - fast, good mark, damaging disposal, goal kicker

Cons - very outside

Stephenson's inside game has improved a lot. The way he played on Saturday, it looked like he should be going top 5. I'd be very surprised if he was available at our pick.

I like Brayshaw. I think he's a very good midfielder, a better one then Constable IMO. But I have a couple big issues with it. Firstly Brayshaw isn't very versatile and Beveridge places a high value on this. Secondly he's not a big need and we will probably take another inside player in West next year with what could be a high pick.

I was going to stick him where I had Hayes, but I'm not cruel ;)

Ok I'll give it a go after some thought.

Jarrod Brander
Not a big fan, but I think he would suit our defence especially well as he is very good at zoning off and intercepting. He's very highly skilled and athletic for a big man with strong hands. I think there's a chance he could become a 2nd or 3rd tall forward leading up the ground as well. I don't think he's benefited from being the No 1 tall at all, it's a good thing we have Boyd for that. Downside is he's not the most defensive player going around.

Jaidyn Stephenson

Very exciting player, that possesses great speed and goal sense. Saw this guy play in the U18's when he was 16. In one of those games he had 4 goals to half time. But he's not just a forward, he's starting to do it through the midfield now. I think he had about 6 or 7 clearances on Saturday which shows his improvement in this area of the game. Downside is while he can be damaging with his kicking it can be inconsistent like on the weekend.

Not sure who my 3rd player is yet. I really like the work of Nathan Murphy on the weekend and I wonder if he could push up to pick 9 with a good finals series. He's a very nice long kick of the ball, he will break the lines with that kick and it's accurate. In one on one aerial contests, he was never beaten on the weekend and is very good overhead. Has enormous upside since he's from a cricket background. He's not the most defensive, but that's not unusual for someone that hasn't played the game that much.

Aiden Bonar is another one. I haven't seen him yet but he peaks my interest.

I think those 4 would offer us something different instead of Constable and Brayshaw who are too much of the same IMO. Those 4 all have the potential to play at a high level too.

I also like Brayshaw. I don't think he has the wow factor you look for in top 10 picks these days but I can see him translating his game to AFL level pretty well given his elite endurance and from what I've seen he's good on the spread. Has a nice balance to his game. Seems a relatively safe pick and I would prefer him over Constable. His brother Hamish interests me after his game on the weekend. Will be keeping an eye on his performance through the TAC cup finals. Could be a real bargain rookie pick.
