Travel complexities combine with most doing year 12 ?

I think it is logistically easier to test 80 players in groups rather than testing about 200 players all at once.
What are our claims on Buku Khamis if he is on our academy list, is it similar to father son bidding ?

Used to watch Jack Bytel in U10/12/14 at Marby lions he was a standout then hope he follows in the footsteps of Touk Miller and Rory Atkins

I thought we had no claim to academy players outside of being able to take them as a cat b rookie if they go undrafted.

LIAM Ryan is a "human highlight reel" but it is his improved professionalism that should propel the Subiaco star into the AFL next season, national talent manager Mick Ablett says.

The spring-heeled 184cm forward did his draft chances no harm at the WA state combine on Sunday, stopping the clock with the second-fastest 20m sprint.

His blistering 2.89-second dash would've placed him outright second at the national combine, and topped his 2.92-second effort from last year.

Despite battling a cold, Ryan also ran a respectable Yo-Yo test – which has replaced the beep test – and impressed with his prodigious leap amongst a field of 22 hopefuls.

"He's just shown exactly what he's doing on-field; he's the excitement machine," Ablett said.

"Whether it's in the 20m sprint or the jumps, he's your human highlight reel just about."

Ryan burst onto the scene last year, booting 40 goals from 16 games, but the outrageously-talented goalkicker was overlooked by AFL clubs.

The 21-year-old knuckled down under coach Jarrad Schofield this season, and took out the WAFL goalkicking and finished eighth in the Sandover Medal.

"I think the consistency and the professionalism, that was probably the question mark from clubs as to whether he could back that up (this year)," Ablett said.

"He had a fantastic year last year, how would he go again?

"I think at the end of the day it was a good decision to let him play out another season in Perth and prove that he can back it up.

"So he's done that, I don't think there's any more Liam can do but sit back and wait until the 24th of November.

"I'll be very surprised if he doesn't get a chance."

Sandover medallist Haiden Schloithe, 24, also tested strongly as he targets a second chance at the elite level.

The big-bodied former Fremantle rookie has worked hard to improve his fitness and ran himself to exhaustion in the Yo-Yo test.

"He can't do any more can he?" Ablett said.

"I know it's been used a lot, but Matt Priddis was a guy that did the same.

"That's where the resilience sets these guys apart.

"Haiden Schloithe has to continue to back up and doesn't have it easy and get a free pass in - if players like him do get an opportunity they generally go on to have pretty successful careers."

After being overlooked in last year's drafts, young Claremont midfielder Matt Guelfi impressed recruiters by running a 21.7 in the Yo-Yo test.

Guelfi was runner-up to Tigers teammate Zac Langdon (21.8), whose time would have placed him equal third at the national combine.

Tigers ball magnet Bailey Banfield, who reportedly has interest from Port Adelaide, dominated the jumping tests.

Powerful WA under-18s midfielder Brandon Starcevich, the nephew of ex-Magpie Craig, also pushed his draft case with a rapid 2.87sec effort in the 20m sprint.

Bailey Banfield?

It has been said over and over again that this years draft is weak and that the quality of players drops off after the top 5.

Who are the top 5?

I've decided to do a bit of a series of the best players for us in positions of need. Should hopefully get it every Monday or so.

Starting with the perennial Bulldogs problem. KPF's.

Oscar Allen 193cm, 83kg - The Larke medalist from WA and one of its Co-Captains along with Aaron Naughton. He is very strong overhead and moves very well around the ground often running up the ground and then back into dangerous spots in the forward line and he uses the ball well. In a way he is a similar sort of player to Jack Gunston, Stewert Crameri or Tom Lynch (adel) he isn't going to be a number one target at AFL level but would be a good second or third tall option. Projected at the end of the first round to about pick 25.

Hugh Dixon 195cm, 92kg - Center Half Forward from Tasmania. Very smart player and has deadly skills by hand and off his left foot. His work at ground level is excellent for his size and he has poise which is rare for a player his size. Needs to find a bit more of the football around the ground and lacks a bit of athleticism but the later isn't a problem with the way he plays. Projected around 25-60.

Ben Miller 196cm, 92kg - Forward/Ruck from WA that has elite speed and agility for his height and it often shows up in his game as some will remember the candy he sold in the All Stars game that Bont would have been happy about. He has spent most of his time as a ruck as a Junior in the WAFL Colts however it is clear to me that he will project as a Center Half Forward or Back given his mobility. Projected 40 - late.

Tom De Koning - 200cm, 92kg - Key Forward from the Dandenong Stingrays, he is a bit of a forgotten man in this draft due to a bit of inconsistent form and injury. He is more than capable of taking a game away from a team like last year against the Northern Knights where he kicked 9 goals. This year he has been exposed outside of the forward line, having to ruck or play back his best position is forward though, it has been where he has played all his footy. If he becomes more consistent once he is given a specific position at an AFL club then he will be a steal. Projected 25 - 50.

Tom McCartin 192cm, 86kg - The baby of the Key Forwards from the Geelong Falcons and Brother of Paddy. Tom is a strong contested mark and has elite endurance which makes him project as a Center Half Forward at AFL level. He is inconsistent and tends to go in and out of games however at his best he is very good. He should have a fair bit of growth year being born late in December. Projected 30 - 60

What are people's thoughts on Starcevic ? I only saw the one champs game but liked what I saw. He also ran 2.87 for 20m sprint at the state combine.

Definitely has some tricks. Wouldn't mind him considering I think we need more depth in tall/bigger bodied inside midfielders.

Has to get a bit more consistent with his skills though.

Very keen on Starcevich but a reach at our second rounder. Would have loved him at 40, maybe Campbell or Honeychurch could net us a fourth rounder where he may be available. Strong contested ball-winner with excellent speed and clean enough skills and versatility to play on the outside.

Is he really rising that fast? Doubt Freo would take him, North have just about locked away Stephenson and Carlton are big on Rayner.

I've seen it been said by a few different posters that Brisbane rate him in the top 5. Not sure about other teams. Cerra could be a slider apparently.

Personally, I would prefer Brayshaw to be a little bit bigger if I was to take him that high.

What do people think about injury being an explanation for Darcy Fogarty's poor year? Could have the highest upside of those available at 9 if true. But have I also heard of attitude problems with him? What do people think?

I haven't seen much TAC cup but want I have seen Darcy Fogarty seems a superstar in the making.

Lachlan Fogarty is a Western Jets player in the TAC Cup. He's a Dogs supporter and has performed particularly well at all levels of footy this year.

Darcy Fogarty is South Australian, and has had a thoroughly inconsistent and below-expectation year in terms of performance. Currently, I'm assuming you have mistaken Darcy Fogarty for Lachlan Fogarty.

If that is the case regarding Cerra, I would be going all guns blazing for us to take him at 9. I rate him as the best in the draft - Pendlebury-esque traits.

I also don't see Brayshaw as a top 5 pick. Agree that it would be more enticing if he were bigger, and would want him to have been more dominant at all levels this year. 6-12 should be around his range.
