This changes everything then. WANT D Fogarty now.
No. That occurred before the national championships, before he started to show poor form on a consistent basis. His ranking in the eyes of recruiters has undoubtedly changed since then.

For those not convinced about Aidan Bonar... watch this clip...

Also bear in mind his '2nd Reco' was due to the first graft not taking...

I'd be happy enough if we picked him. Certainly some good work there. He has the Stringer breakaway speed but unlike Stringer he's a strong tackler.

However I saw a lot of missed targets there and not all of them were disposals under pressure either.

Interesting to listen to Dalrymple interviewed on AFL Road to the Draft podcast before national carnival..
He ranked D.Fogarty as most likely No.1.. ahead of Reynor..
Both likely gone by 9 but if Darcy happens to slip you would expect Simon to be reading....
'Player xxxxx.. Darcy Fogarty Kowree-Naracoorte & Glenelg Football Clubs'
So we'd be replacing one dynamic player who has no tank (Stringer) with a younger dynamic player with no tank?
No tanks.

NEWS ARTICLE ON BALLARD

SOUTH Australian midfielder Charlie Ballard has flown under the radar for most of the season but is attracting attention as a possible top-30 selection at this month's NAB AFL Draft.

Ballard caught the eye for his state during the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, when he averaged 18 disposals across the four games playing on the wing.

But he continued to impress later in the season, playing in Sturt's under-18 premiership and the following week stepping up to feature in its reserves flag win.

At 195cm, Ballard is tall for a midfielder, which appeals to clubs, who believe the 18-year-old will feature in the second round at the draft on November 24.

For his size he is skillful and also swift by foot, running 3.05 seconds over 20m at the draft combine last month.

It hasn't always been the way for Ballard, however, after he grew 15cm in less than two years to transform his game.

Geelong, Greater Western Sydney and St Kilda could all consider Ballard with their second-round selections.

His Sturt teammate Jordan Houlahan also pushed himself into consideration for the first 20 picks on draft night after also playing in his club's under-18 and reserves flags.

Houlahan is a high-flying medium forward who is exciting in the air and dangerous at ground level.

Sydney has been linked as a possible suitor for the 18-year-old, who performed well in the jumps tests at the recent draft combine.

The pair are among four prospects from their state who are considered possible top-30 selections at the draft, alongside potential top-10 pick Darcy Fogarty and defender Harrison Petty.

Petty has also risen up draft boards after an impressive season that saw him win All Australian honours at the under-18 carnival.

The late first round bolter?
Marcus Adams use to have a tall wingman he would kick to when he was in WA. It allowed a much easier exit kick than having to hit someone leading into space.
Putting English on one wing and Ballard on the other, would make transitioning forward faster much easier.

Reminds me of my AFL Live 2003 tactics.

Smokescreen.

He ain't telling what he is really thinking.

Fogarty must have something going for him? Surely he can't go from number 1 to nothing in Dals eyes over a couple of months or so where he wasn't even fully fit. If he really did rate him number 1 then it wouldn't surprise me if we take him

Dale4captain mentioned we were scouting him pretty hard a week ago, so it sounds like we are still keen.

I rate his talent very highly, but it's all about his commitment and whether he has the drive to succeed.

Bit surprised CCJ and Hayes both made that first team even now.

That TAC Cup Team of the Year is an absolute sham. Paddy Dow made it from three games, Garner was mediocre at best the whole season, LDU only played 6 games and wasn't super consistent, Naish wasn't great and Rayner was inconsistent.

Really starting to think 16 is going to be a classic Dal reach. Especially since it's our last before 82. Thinking Ballard, Starcevich, Miers, Ross, Shipley, someone like that.

And of course we'll all blow up and we'll all be wrong.

Charlie Ballard is 195.5cm, 82.3kg, he is a Utility and he is a from Sturt.

His strength is his motor (he can play as a wingman at that height no joke), kicking skills, marking and versatility (plays forward, back and midfield).

Weaknesses are his slight frame and would ideally want to be a touch quicker.
I mentioned several weeks back that I would consider this guy for our first pick and that has now solidified in my mind. Versatile, unique physical attributes and composed with bail in hand all at 195cm is an exciting prospect. He would take a couple of years to physically mature and his kicking technique has a little bit of the Nick Riewoldt about it which would need to be ironed out a little but he is a great point of difference for the modern zoning style of football.
An ideal world would see us taking Ballard at 9 then Brayshaw if available, which I doubt, Constable, maybe available or Bonar at 16.

I kinda hope we take Murphy at 9
Because he will likely be gone before 16 & then Dannnnnnnnnn can claim him because he went with him early

There’s more chance of Ballard being available at 16 than Brayshaw being available at 9.

You know its interesting, I think we all agree that Dals skills as a recruiter have got better with experience. I wonder what are the factors he rates most highly these days? Do his picks share a common trait?

Personally, I think players should be judged on their ability when under pressure rather than what they can do under no pressure. Being super fast, or damaging with the ball, or able to take a good speccy doesnt count for much under no pressure. Its just not representative of how the player will go in the AFL where there arent many low pressure possessions. Its noise, basically.

I agree with that but I like Ballard as a prospect so much that I would be willing to pay a premium to ensure that we get him. Personally believe that Brayshaw will be gone before our first pick anyway, as a pure mid I rate him second after LDU.

Agree. And I'd pounce if Brayshaw was still available at 9.
Out of interest has Brayshaw got any noticeable weaknesses? Nobody has mentioned them to me for the draft prospects table. I know he's only 183cm and it would be nice if he was say 186-187 but 183 is not a true shortarse for a modern day midfielder.

I don't think he has any noticeable weaknesses.

Minor concerns would be that he's a bit shorter like you said, and his aerial ability is only average, so for this reason he's not overly versatile. He does struggle to impact the game playing as a deep forward and he hasn't been great down back. Across half forward he's better. 10 goals in 17 games in the TAC cup suggests he does need to hit the scoreboard a bit more though.

I notice Brayshaw didn't win any honours either. No AA, no TAC TotY etc. was he injured or just not good enough?

Thank you Dav1d, i was having a creative spurt based around
the initial squads for Vic Metro and Country, South and West
Ausralia and the Allies to see how many get drafted from the
respective squads. I was also looking at the chance of taking
Patrick Naish with pick 9, but his highlights are a bit all or
nothing. Still the combo of Constable and Murphy is a bit
similar for me so i was looking to sexy it up a little.

Massively stiffed for selection in the TAC Cup Team of the Year. Was a complete joke that Paddy Dow and Garner got the nod ahead of him - really disappointing. Either way, his performance through the year has been simply solid and consistent the whole way through. Hasn't had any purple patches but has just gone about his business and been crucial for Sandy and Vic Metro. He's risen over the last month due to his athletic capabilities and club interest in him as a genuine inside/outside mid. His contested ball-winning combined with his impressive outside run is a really interesting prospect, and few weaknesses is a plus.
