We are stacked for KPD at the moment.

Marchbank, Plowman, Weitering and Macradie is plenty to work with and we have LJizz, Rowe and ASOS to hold down the gorillas for the next 2-3 seasons.

I'd be surprised if he was kept on the rookie list considering the need for a young developing ruck and an influx of midfielders. A mature aged mid like Panos would be good value IMO. Big body with some experience.
I thought we were trading Weitering for the Joshua tree.

Western Bulldogs and Sydney are the kings of picking up quality rookies.
Richmond have done O.K. given how many they've been playing, but not the quality of the above clubs.
Selecting well is one thing, developing properly is another. Get the two right and you're up and running........obviously.

At least we're back to picking players that have AFL traits. (SOS era)
JGM has a long way to go, but is at least fast for a tall man.
LeBois has some handy tricks but they really haven't shown up yet. Still well worth holding onto.
ASilvagni was drafted for a very good reason and that has shown up already.
Gallucci? I'm not a fan and that's because of what I saw in the '15/'16 pre-season. Has been injured though.

Why we were so keen on Gowers is beyond me. Maybe going to turn another HBF'er into a midfielder?......and we were keen on Preuss.
Walsh? Nice guy but when you're capable of missing passes by hand and foot by 5 meters+ ????
Fields could kick. Then what? One trick pony
Fraser Russell? Free hit but what AFL traits did we see in him?
Luke Reynolds? Way too slow for the AFL and a very limited footballer.
Blaine Johnson: The one guy I thought may have a chance at making it, but ultimately not good enough or not developed well enough.
Cachia; Limited footballer,
Collins; Had some qualities that were enticing. Thought he had some chance......but....

We really fired quite a few blanks here over the course of three years, by simply drafting meat & potatoes. Wonder what the rationale was?

there's some names from the past, harks - reynolds the win after the siren, was it fields the monster roost into the centre square at etihad? walsh the physique, cachia a wannabe highway and the smash on nason, collins the one there that kills me the most - fragile but so skilled

Graham has definitely done enough to stay for another year. No issue with him continuing to get 1 yr contracts as depth for our senior team. Could make a career out of it.
In
They have had a bit of help.... Cola and now their academy

That's so simplistic
Their blueprint has been good recruitment
Excellent development
Great culture

Not what you're suggesting

This is actually what's wrong with our club
Unable to look inwards and see the giant holes in our apparatus
Instead looking for excuses

So, join me in fantasy land for a second.
Let's say Gibbs leaves, and Adelaide finish first or second, meaning they have pick 17ish - not enough for Gibbs.
We take it on the proviso they throw in Brad Crouch.
Casboult leaves.
We send Casboult pick, Gibbs pick, and our first to GWS, for Hopper and Kelly.
Add Balic for our fourth or Boek.
Carlton have a midfield.
you're right - you are in fantasy land if you think the crows will do that deal

It will be interesting if Kelly decides to stay at GWS, which is on the cards, and Gibbs asks for a trade again.
Our midfield is skinny as it is so unless Adelaide cough up something pretty good that results in us getting a quality midfielder I cant see the club letting him go.

I agree with this. Rookie draft for players with AFL weapons (even if they're long shots) and experienced AFL depth players.

Getting excited about Pickett after today's game vs Essendon.

Showed some nice speed, agility and skills throughout the game...highlighted by his chase down tackle on Tippa and side-stepping and brushing off 2-3 Essendon players before giving off a nice handball.

Also showed some toughness which is not something he's known for by charging off the back of the centre square at a centre bounce and really hitting the ball/contest hard.

If he can have a big pre-season and continuity and we get Adam Saad it will completely change the dynamic of our team.

Having Pickett up front and Saad down back will enable us to pressure teams with speed and give us the option of playing fast, counter-attacking footy from defence more often. I can already imagine us marking the ball around defensive 50, Saad getting a handball receive and dashing from half back before kicking it long & over the top to a flying Pickett.

Yeah i can't see sos trading gibbs unless we get kelly

Look there's a need to get something happening with our midfield, and if it's at the cost of a late pick and a list spot, and it's a pick or trade made with genuine growth in mind (think Menegola, Geelong's Stewart, Barlow), then I'm good with that.

We just have to trust that it's SOS calling the shots with the mature picks, not the old WA crew or the coach like the good ol' days. Remember that he picked ASOS.

You chose to single out a stop gap player. We don't want to be adding any more players that most sides would be itching to delist within three years, that's my problem with it, we have at least three years worth of players just waiting to be delisted as it is. What makes us think we'll do any better in that regard when we are singling out midfielders? The fact that Trigg had to draw attention to it seems to suggest it's more than just a case of business as usual and that it is stressing the club out a bit and that kind of thing leads to trouble.

Kreuz repeatedly misjudging flight of ball- brain still scrambled???
I think we can forgive him for him not covering well for his weaknesses after getting clocked the week before. He'd be nervous enough.

We used our last live pick in the rookie draft to get him, and it was clearly a smart move, smarter than any one gave him credit for.

If you want direct parallels, he scooped up Lobb (though I admit he's not had a great season).

Sure, but Trigg was talking about more than simply who we'll be drafting with late rookie picks. It might be nothing but we should really be sticking to long term prospects, and plenty of them, when they are available. I'm sick of giving a go to long shots and aging stalwarts and there are some on our list who were only ever that. It hasn't been a big deal so far but it'll start to add up and we'll feel it when we are really challenging.

I agree, and I think we will, but you don't ignore talent when it's the best on the board at your pick. You might value it against short, medium and long term along with potential risks, but you don't ignore it.

Marcus Adams is a good example of that, and it sounds like we would have snapped him up under different circumstances.

Cam Guthrie is playing terrible footy this year not sure why exactly but he had a great year in 2016,could he be someone we could get cheap?
Geelong are desperate for trade capital this year, so we'd have to play it pretty smartly to get anything good from them for cheap, and that relies on them needing more picks/third parties to satisfy an existing trade agreement with another club.

We must seek a PP this year. Forget the AFL giving us some sweetheart deal on Levi or something. We need both a compo for Levi AND a PP. on all measures we should get one.

Pride counts for nothing. We need to lobby heavily for everything we can get this trade period.

The 2015 & 2016 draft/trade periods were great but this trade period will decide whether we will be the complete package or not in my opinion. This trade period we potentially trade out our best player (Gibbs) and Levi, whilst potentially losing Simmonto retirement. Like it or not They will leave a big hole.

Sell ourselves short and we are destined again for mediocrity.

A bit full on but it's how I see it...
