Big difference between eastern Sydney and western Sydney. There is no hipster element out in the west who feel that it's trendy to support the contrarian code. A bit like the flogs you see in Melbourne who support the Rebels. If they are up and about and winning this year and getting less than 12,000 at Skoda, but drawing more than that at Manuka then it'll be harder and harder for the AFL to continue basing them where they are and may have to look at basing them in Canberra. Particularly if they win a flag and still don't increase crowds. Canberra has the advantage of being closer to the southern parts of NSW where AFL is more popular.
Interesting.
The problems would be:
1. Their name has Sydney in it, so moving them would involve renaming and the AFL eating some crow about that.
2. The aim was a second Sydney team to access the vast populace and provide a Derby.

However gws currently preclude a Canberra team, Canberra probably should and could have a team that would be pretty much at least on par with gws for support, and Canberra is a town divided between afl and rugby that is a reasonably viable battleground - the FL would be dumb to prop up the Giants were they to remain bereft of fans whilst losing afl friendly Canberra to rugby for the want of an intrinsic team.

Also a Canberra transfer might be a face saving escape route should the Giants member numbers be stagnant and the afl need an exit plan better than folding the club.

Canberra don't deserve a team before Tassie, and if Tassie is unsustainable Canberra certainly is

Tassie deserves a team but won't get one.

If you're going to prop up a team, Canberra is a place to make inroads into NSW, it was a former AFL town now with a rugby encroachment that should well be countered. The population is younger and more affluent than the dispersed divided aged Tasmanian populace, sponsorships and corporate/govt support etc would be very foreseeable. It's already pretty much half the Giants fans and a fair amount of their games. If the Giants find poor uptake in Western Sydney they could cut their losses and easily relocate fully to Canberra and instead hope to attract far more of the border regions - they're already propped up fiscally and I'd be very startled if there was the slightest possibility of them relocating to Tas.

Meanwhile poor old Tas winds up following Vic footy anyway with no rugby risk.

Don't worry about numbers here, sound like a bunch of bean counters FFS!
Just make sure as many members/supporters/fans of the mighty Brown & Gold are there on Monday!
Go Hawks!

Unless they want to see the origins of the new era. Being there when the new guard start and the groundwork is laid for our next winning squad. I loved attentively following Hodge et al across their entire career - having watched the debuts and on makes the flag so much sweeter. Fancy watching Burton and our new mids all work together with the first steps of a long association. It's a privilege.

Footy isn't just about watching just the tapes of our winning grand finals. It's about following a team and then seeing them win flags having been there for the journey.

Be lucky to get 50K next year.

No wins. No kids. No hope

About 55k supporters are on auto renewal. That's our starting point pre-Xmas. So you're saying that one in ten automatic renewals will sit down at their computer and cancel and that every single manual renewal will not pick up the phone.

As far as hysterical melodrama goes, this is a good effort.

Next we can obsess about a change in washing detergent that fades the jersey colours just a little.

I haven't done the figures... but I'm predicting a drop off next season.

Sure us loyal fans will stay but there will be lots that won't. It's not melodrama nor obsession just saying what I think will happen.

We won't drop below 70k, more auto renewals next year, we will sign a good FA and make some interesting trade moves which will provide excitement.
