I wasn't meaning picking one but do you start with both? Simpson had a pretty incredible season not one score under 79. :eek:
Yeah picking both is not for me. Doc I'm likely to start with (pre season pending) He can only get better where as a 30 year old Simpson wont improve his scoring.

Locks:
Laird
Beams
Bontempelli
Pendles (only bloke I start with every year)
Fyfe

High on list:
Williams
Vince (DP)
Cripps
Crouch
Libba (DP)
Dahlhaus (DP)
Sandilands

My never again list:
MacMillan
Brodie Smith
Steve Johnson
Higgins

Why? He was relatively cheap and gave a bunch 80s and 90s and even had 4 or 5 100+ games (a couple of games he had well over 100). He had some stinkers and was an up and down player but overall I was happy to keep in my side for the year.

Backs: Doch, Rance, Heater
Mids: Pendles, Danger, Hanners, Neale, SP Cropps
Rucks: Gawn
Forwards: Bont (surely DPP), Dusty, Zorko

Giddy up.

I'll do pretty much the exact same. I'd go with Simpson over Rance though and you forgot Merrett. He's a definite lock for me. Would probably pick him over Pendlebury If I had to choose between the 2.

Putting aside individual trades that didn't work out & premos who didn't fire (nothing groundbreaking here, more a note to self):
  1. Don't pick players without a full preseason;
  2. Start with a RUC / FWD link. Didn't do it this year and came to regret it. There should be some good options;
  3. Be stricter in looking for value options (avoid bringing in players above 500-550k, look for fallen premos);
  4. Stick with consistent performers in the core mids;
  5. Stick more closely to Guns and Rookies strategy with starting line-up;
  6. Max maybe 1 KPP up forward / down back (e.g. Lynch GCS / TMac actually finished off strongly after the very poor start);
  7. Don't rely on club medicos trust your own common sense when deciding whether to trade out injured players (e.g. Dahlhaus);
  8. No old bastards. Only old prick I brought in was McVeigh and he has been mediocre. You can do well if you get them right, but too risky for mine;
  9. Pay no attention to thigh girth when selecting side. Especially not if those thighs are Tasmanian;
  10. Select Jack Martin. Want to be there if / when he goes bang, I sure as hell have suffered through his growing pains. Completely irrational, but **** it.

Yeah, they'll usually burn ya. How many went down with injuries this year? Too many. Corey Enright was one of the only reliable old buggers this year and the only player over 30 I went with other than Josh "I'm absolutely cooked mate" Gibson.

My never again list:
Houli
Gibson
Ward
Bartel

I thought Ward and Bartell were really good this year. Bartell was a good price at only just over 400k I think and averaged 90 I think? Got a handful of 100+ games too but petered out at the end. Ward I had as captain a few times and he got me massive scores.

Never say never, but won't go with these blokes next year:
Ward
Steven
Sidebottom
McVeigh
Hall

As a Collingwood fan and someone who does like Steele, I find him to be a bit overrated and someone who can go missing so I didn't go with him at any point this year (my first year) as his price was way too high. I bet he scored well under a 100 a bunch of times. Did he? (no idea what his scores were)

Started at the last page and going backwards and keep seeing people say that they're never gonna go with Bartel again. Besides his last 3-4 games of the year, what is the reasoning behind this? Like I already said, he was only just over 400k at the beginning of the season and averaged 91.5 (just looked it up on SC) he was a DPP as well which there were practically none of but if you also had Rich in your side you could swap the 2 around if need be.

Either way I was very happy with Bartel up until the last few games of the season

Simpson over Rance is a fair call. Both will be solid picks.

Merrett locked over Pendlebury? Are you insane? :eek:
Pendles has consistently had a top 5 scoring average, and was 2nd this year. Incredibly durable, and a solid loophole option.
Zerrett has had one very good year, and has some uncertainty with Heppell etc coming back next year.

Zerrett is a near-lock if he was a FWD, but he'll likely be just a MID next year, and that will mean I'll pass on him for my starting team.

Ablett, Swallow, Fiorini, Miller, Hall, Rosa, Harbrow

you underestimate the depth and talent of the GC midfield

Would have to be one of the worst midfields running around next year.... Sorry but I don't see it and Tom Lynch while being incredible and amazing I just don't see why anyone would pick him in their side... expect GCS to be bottom 4 again
