Thinking last night how Billings and Ross are the only guys who have really come on this year (even Ross was mostly last year).
Sinclair/Webster as well I guess.
Geary and newnes are the most consistent, together with brown now as well.
Gresh, Acres, Mckenzie, mccartin , Dunstan, Lonie, Bruce, Weller all pretty disappointing.
Hickey has had a mare. Not to mention some of the guys who haven't played seniors.
Pretty underwhelming season so far for a lot of the guys. Let's ****in turn it on the second half boys!

Grades based on performance for the saints only vs my personal expectations.

Hickey - E-
Carlisle - B+
Steven - C+
Gresham - C
Savage - E
Ross - A
Dunstan - C-
Acres - D+
Steele - B-
Montagna - C
Riewoldt - C
Lonie - C+
Geary - A
Billings - A+
Newnes - B
Roberton - B+
Longer - C+
Gilbert - B
Armitage - NA
Long - C-
Brown - A
Stevens - B-
Bruce - C+
Membrey - C
Webster - B+
McCartin -D
Wright - C-
Sinclair - B+
Mckenzie - D+
Minchington - C-
Weller - D

Hopefully a few higher grades if we revisit at end of season.

Not sure I get it. Is it how they have played this year or how you were expecting them to play because it doesn't seem to be how they have played.

don't mind it, though I reckon paddy has been ok when he's played seniors and very good (leading goal kicker) in the VFL, so a D rating is unfair, solid C for me, injuries aside

Not assessed: new recruits and those who have not played seniors

I guess I based it on how they have actually played in the 1's and also on what I feel they're capable of. I rate Acres as one of the best so perhaps that was a bit harsh. Yesterday he had a shocker and if you drop Steele for having a down patch it's hard to see him keeping his spot. Didn't want him spending time in the VFL again.

Gresh another one of my favs with that low centre of gravity but hasn't come on like I thought.
Not sure I agree with paddy playing well when in the 1's. Three straight weeks he kicked 1 goal in the last quarter when the game was already lost. I think he's always showed signs he'll get it together but hasn't contributed enough. Billy brownless has just said he won't play any level this week and is flat with football in general. Worrying signs.

I'm sorry but at the moment we do not have any A grade players in our side. The closest one that we have is Steven and he is having an average year to date by his standard. If Billings can consistently play like he is then he is the next one to be considered an A grader.

I don't know where to post this, but Rowan Marshall was apparently rated BOG for Sandy at CHB. He should be playing round 1 next year, given the relaxation of the rules on rookies per the new CBA.

We already have brown and Carlisle as our key backs. Too risky carrying rowan unless both paddy and roo are injured/retired

I should have clarified, I based it on performance vs expectation. Carlisle has played well but given his contract and knowledge of his ability at Essendon he's not reached his full potential IMO.
Billings is probably not quiet an A grader yet but considering what some of us were saying about him at the start of the year he's an A+

Ross would have to be close to an A grade player IMO . Given the year he has had what more does he have to do to become an A grader?

Needs to be in the same class as Dangerfield, Martin Selwood etc to be considered an A grader. He is in the next group with the likes of Treloar, Cripps, Beams, Gray etc.

Define your grading system in the OP, otherwise it's too vague to join in.

The following grades are my opinion of how players have performed with respect to my expectations of how I thought they would achieve this season:
A grade for achieving well above satisfactory level.
B grade for achieving above satisfactory level.
C grade for achieving at a satisfactory level.
D grade for achieving below satisfactory level.
E grade for achieving well below satisfactory.

Webster has been awesome this year. I would actually give him an A.

In fact quite a few of your ratings are pretty harsh. Montagna a C?! Ouch.

Rowan can play 2nd ruck. Kicked goals earlier in the season as a forward and was the main ruck in another VFL team earlier. Would be an upgrade as a true utility...
