Well the season has been over for a month but that hasn't stopped the silly season in the WAFL getting into full swing. There's been a fair bit of news so far so I'll be trying to get everyone here up to speed in all things WAFL since the season ended. I'm hoping to keep this thread going for the entirety of season 2017 as well, not just the off and pre-season but in season also.

- The 2017 WAFL season will begin on 18 March, a week before the start of the 2017 AFL season. Once again, the 2017 season will consist of 23 rounds with all clubs playing 20 games. There has been plans to reduce the season to an 18 games per club model but that plan has been shelved for now and will go into a broader review.
- Dennis Cometti will join Seven's telecast of the WAFL in 2017 as an expert commentator after finishing up his AFL calling duties at the end of the 2016 AFL season.
- Luke Webster will coach East Perth in 2017, taking over from Jaymie Graham who was promoted to an assistant coaching role with West Coast Eagles. Webster took on a development coaching role with Carlton in 2011 before becoming the Northern Blues' coach (Carlton's VFL affiliate) in 2013 and 2014. His grandfather Ray was a premiership player with the Royals in the 1950's, his father Ron was a prominent player at the club in the 1970's while brother Ryan also played League football at the club.
- Stevan Armstrong and Xavier Ellis will coach at Swan Districts in 2017 after taking on senior coaching positions with the club. Ellis joins the club as the Colts' coach and will also coach the League's side defence while Armstrong will take charge of Swans' forward line.
- East Perth will go into 2017 having lost a bunch of experience with Craig Wulff, Paul Johnson and Garry Moss all retiring.
- Swan Districts have signed delisted West Coast Eagle Jamie Bennell who has joined his old club on a one year deal. Swans have also secured former Carlton player David Ellard who is returning to his old WAFL club.
- In further player news for Swan Districts, they've signed former Collingwood listed player Corey Gault and also delisted Fremantle midfielder Clancee Pearce. Both players have returned to Swans after being drafted from the club into the AFL. Pearce played in Swan Districts' nailbiting premiership win over Claremont in 2010.
- Peter Sumich will coach Western Australia's Under 18 side for the next two years, replacing Andrew Lockyer. Tony Micale will coach the Under 16's and have a hand in other WA development teams.
- Brendan Lee has quit East Perth and won't be returning to the club in 2017 after his ban for the Essendon Supplements saga ends. Lee has elected to play amateurs with Wembley next season after they were recently promoted to A Grade.
- The Royals also hope to sign Nick Kommer who was delisted from Essendon earlier this week. They've also received permission from the WAFC to recruit one "category two" player from another WAFL club in order to replace Craig Wulff, Paul Johnson and Garry Moss who all retired at the end of 2016.
- 2013 West Perth premiership player Rohan Kerr has retired after taking a job working at Alcoa aluminium plant in Kwinana. He will play country football with Pinjarra in 2017.

- West Perth has signed forward Scott Simpson who spent time on Geelong's list in 2008 and 2009. Simpson is a key forward who is also able to play in defence. The Falcons have lost Luke Tedesco who has decided to retire from WAFL football.
- Former Essendon forward Cory Dell'Olio has signed a two year deal with South Fremantle. Dell'Olio spent three seasons at Essendon before being delisted at the end of 2014. He returned to South Fremantle for 2015 before being banned for 2016 due to the Essendon Supplements saga. His ban ends in the middle of next month.
- Recently retired East Perth midfielder/forward Garry Moss has signed with Perth as an assistant coach. Moss will coach the Demons' forwards in 2017.
- Clem Smith has signed with Perth, returning to his original WAFL club after being delisted from Carlton last month.
- Patrick McGinnity has signed a three year deal with East Perth after calling time on his career in the AFL with the West Coast Eagles. Fellow Royals' Mitch Fraser, Steven Payne and and Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls have all re-committed to the Royals for 2017.
- Chris Keunen and Matt Guadagnin have committed to West Perth for next season while the Falcons have convinced Trent Manzone to stay with the club after he announced his intentions to move interstate.

Clem Smith signed for Perth a few weeks back.

Thanks CC. :thumbsu:

There's allegedly some interest from West Coast with regards to picking up Smith in the rookie draft.

- Perth expect to play all of their home games at Lathlain Park next season. Construction has begun on West Coast Eagles' new headquarters at the venue which will see new turf laid soon to replicate the ground being built at Perth Stadium. The Demons will train at Higgins Park during the pre-season but look set to play a full allocation of home games at Lathlain.
- The signing of Patrick McGinnity to East Perth for three seasons was the Royals' compensation selection for losing Paul Johnson, Garry Moss and Craig Wulff to retirement. The Royals will still be able to sign a "category two" player from another club as per the WAFL rules for the upcoming season. The Royals have also re-signed wingman Steven Payne for another year.
- Delisted West Coast Eagle Brant Colledge has signed with Perth for the next two seasons. Colledge was drafted to the Eagles from Perth at the end of 2012 but has returned to his former WAFL club. The Demons have also signed East Perth player Clayton Giblett and are also targeting delisted Fremantle midfielder Tendai Mzungu. Perth could yet lose Aidan Tropiano though who is currently weighing up an offer from Subiaco.
- Subiaco are leading the race to sign Corey Adamson for 2017 with the former category B rookie a free agent. Any club who signs Adamson can do so at the cost of only one point under the WAFL's squad points rules. Perth are another club who have also enquired about Adamson's services.

If the Tigers can pull them in, expect them to shoot up the ladder. They played some damn good footy at times last season, highlighted by the 3rd best percentage in the league.

- Jermaine Miller-Lewis has returned to South Fremantle after spending two seasons with Hawthorn in the AFL. Miller-Lewis was delisted by the Hawks at the end of 2016.
- Jonathon Marsh could play with East Fremantle in 2017 despite still being on Collingwood's primary AFL list. Marsh asked for a trade back to a WA based club and was linked with the West Coast Eagles but a deal failed to materialise for the 21 year old. Collingwood are open to letting Marsh play for the Sharks next season if he remains on their list for 2017 due to suffering home sickness. The Magpies have until 30 November to make a decision on Marsh and could yet delist the Sharks' product.
- The WAFL plans to reduce transfer red tape by cutting transfer fees for 2017. Clubs who want to recruit delisted AFL players, top three WAFL B&F finishers or players with 100 or more games of WAFL experience will have to pay $10,000 rather than the minimum $15,000. Players looking to change from alignment clubs East Perth and Peel Thunder must pay $12,500. The changes come on the back of encouraging greater movement between state leagues with some clubs forking out up to $30,000 to transfer one player. Standard Colts' transfers will cost $2,000 while Reserves' players and Under 18 reps will cost $4,000.
- Subiaco have signed delisted West Coast Eagles rookie Corey Adamson for 2017. Adamson spent two seasons on West Coast's list as a Category B rookie being cut at the end of 2016. It is believed the Lions held off strong approaches from Perth and West Perth for Adamson's services.

- Perth has re-signed Aidan Tropiano with the Sandover Medallist committing to the Demons for a further two seasons. The Demons have also signed Peel Thunder player Devin McFarlane for two years and expect Tendai Mzungu to sign with the club next week.
- The Demons have also applied to the WAFC to have their salary points cap of an extra 10 points further extended and are in talks with delisted Fremantle player Jack Hannath about the possibility of playing next season.
- Jonothon Marsh has retired from Collingwood in the AFL and is set to move back home to Perth citing homesickness. Marsh is a chance to play with East Fremantle, the club he was drafted from before playing 15 games in three seasons with the Magpies.
- South Fremantle defender Marlion Pickett has had grievous bodily harm charges dropped in the District Court. Pickett was charged in March last year after an incident in Spearwood. The Bulldogs player has attracted interest from West Coast, Fremantle and other AFL clubs and remains a chance to be drafted later this month.

What will Claremont get as compensation for Ginners defection to East Perth ?

I don't think they get anything.

From what you wrote it would seem that we get 10K.

CC, Clark and Lucas are on EF players list, just means if any other club wants them they need a clearance being a listed player with the Sharks, no different for Perth and Mzungu or DeBoer at Cl etc.....touch wood Mzungu stays loyal, but a load of talk SD have snaffled him. Hopefully the draft goes EF way, if it does, a couple of strong recruits could be wearing blue n white in 17....all draft dependant though...good to see Marsh sign on at EF for 3 years...at 194cm weighing 90 odd kg and his speed will be very handy for the sharks next year.

- Andrew Embley has signed as Claremont's midfield coach for 2017 with Kepler Bradley also promoted to midfield and ruck coaching duties. Steve Trewhella, Geoff Valentine, Damian Condon and Craig Dalton make up Claremont's new senior team coaching structure.
- Tendai Mzungu's stint at Perth didn't last long, he has been picked up by Greater Western Sydney and joins the Giants on their rookie list.
- Ryan Crowley has re-joined Swan Districts for 2017. Crowley originally signed with Swans for 2016 but was picked up by Essendon as a top-up player for 2016 due to a number of players suspended as a result of the Essendon Supplements saga. He joins the club in a purely playing capacity.
- In more news for Swans, they've lost Graham Jetta and Matthew Jukes who will both play country football next season.
- After leaving Gold Coast Suns, Jarrod Garlett has signed with South Fremantle for two seasons, returning to his original WAFL club. Souths have also signed East Fremantle ruckman Jake Solomon and have locked in midfielder Tim Kelly for the next two seasons.
- Delisted St. Kilda forward/defender Tom Lee has returned to Claremont for 2017. Lee played 17 games with the Saints in four seasons and also spent two seasons with Adelaide.
- West Perth have signed former WA Under 18 academy player Riley Hutchinson for next season. Hutchinson played one senior game with East Perth but has spent the last few seasons in the South West Football League.
- East Fremantle have signed South Fremantle forward Jesse Mirco for next season. Mirco played 21 matches in the reserves in 2016, booting 40 goals.
- Andrew Lockyer is Subiaco's new development coach. Lockyer's role also includes coaching Subiaco's reserves and will head the Lions' coaching academy. Lockyer had previously coached WA Under 18 side in two stints including winning the carnival in 2009. In other news for the Lions, Dwayne Lamb has taken on a role as director of coaching.
