Would be great. May only play a half.

I assume this Blanch guy is new.

a quick google shows he had 20 years at AIS, then at Cricket Australia. Interestingly he was appointed head physio at Essendon at the end of 2015. Clearly that didn't last long. Must have moved back to brisbane after 1 year.

Sounds like a pretty strong resume.

The other guy people were asking about who is our new strength and conditioning coach is Brynley Abad. Google him as well. He last worked with the firebirds and whilst a much smaller group, the coach tasked him with having the whole playing group available to play all season. Which he said he achieved. There was also a podcast that he did with Pacey Performance - it's no 120. He knows his stuff particularly around injury prevention.

Pretty good ins coming in next match.
Beams, Bell, Christensen, Cutler, Harwood i think, Hippy. That 5/6 best 25, which means we get rid of 5/6 players who are at the bottom of the run. I would expect us to play a much better match even if those players are playing restricted minutes. If we can get through this JLT series injury free, happy days

Don't think we will drop bottom 5-6 and replace I think it will depend on workload management. Don't think we will see full strength line up till round 1(minus frost)

Which 5/6 make way? Frost, Beams, Walker, Jansen, Allison would probably be mine

Harwood Gardiner Robertson
Mayes Andrews Bewick

Cutler Beams Zorko

Robinson Close Bell
Christensen Freeman McCluggage

Foll: Smith, Rockliff, Rich

Lester, Bastinac, Schache, Taylor, Keays, Barrett, Matho, Martin?

hmm, lets see:

In: Beams, Out: Lester (I know he was captain last week, but Beams is just a better quality player than him)
In Cutler, Out: Beams Jnr
In: McStay, Out: Frost
In: Christensen, Out: Barrett
In: Harwood, Out: Allison
Im: Hippy, Out:Walker/Freeman
In: Bell, Out: Jansen

I wouldn't be dropping lester. I thought he was pretty solid all game. Might be more than meets the eye with cutler as well. Wouldn't be surprised if he's left out again.

Agree. There's also value in having enough vets on the park to show the young guys around, and for all his limitations, everything I've seen/read about Lester suggests he's smart and professional about his game.

Between Freeman and Walker, I imagine they'd want to see more of Freeman. He's a better contested mark and kick for goal than Walker (or Close, I'd reckon), and if he can consistently show the defensive effort and ground game that he was reported to last week, then he could have a lot to offer this year. That's a big if, and one best evaluated by game time. Walker I think it's more of a known quantity.

Agreed. If Freeman can keep stepping it up with his defensive efforts he may surprise us all this year. It would be an amazing situation to have the likes of Close and Freeman keeping Hipwood and Schache under pressure to perform to keep/win back a spot in the forward 50.

I cannot see mcstay forcing his way into the forward line, but he is needed down back. He is such a big unit now I just want to see him take control and stick it to some kpfs.

I think he'll play at both ends but mainly down back.

I think it is down to Archie or walker/mcstay in the forward line. If we accept Martin is no 1 ruck and will play, but is being effective up forward that takes one tall fwd position.

McStay might want to play forward but I can't see a spot for him if we are playing archie. He could slot in at chb though and release Andrews to peel off and intercept more.

It's great to see how quickly things have turned for Archie. Breakout debut last year, new contract and now it seems he is in for regular game time in 2017.

According to the TOG stats, he was on the ground for 50% of the game. They can tend to get a bit confused in pre-season games, though. Also interesting- Archie 27 hitouts from 54% game time.
Watched the replay again last night. No sign of Walker being on the ground before 3/4 time.

All those TOG stats seemed completely wrong. It may have been stuffed up in their reporting due to the 4 extra bench players. Trying to sort by TOG it wouldn't actually go by numerical order which is what makes me sure that there is some hidden variable.

If Archie can lift his output around the ground he can easily take over as the no 1 ruckmen. His tap work and follow up work is really good, his tackling and attack on the ball are awesome. The only thing he needs to do is take more damn marks. That's the only thing holding him back at the moment and his upside is significantly better than Martins. Jumps like nic nat and tackles like mumford hes come a long long way.
