If Archie can lift his output around the ground he can easily take over as the no 1 ruckmen. His tap work and follow up work is really good, his tackling and attack on the ball are awesome. The only thing he needs to do is take more damn marks. That's the only thing holding him back at the moment and his upside is significantly better than Martins. Jumps like nic nat and tackles like mumford hes come a long long way.

We should tell James North about it so he can finally jump on the bandwagon!

Yep. Two years ago I would have said Archie wasn't going to crack it. 12 months ago I thought he wouldn't be depth and have a 25 match career.

Now I could easily see him as our number 1 ruck within a year and he continues to learn and improve.

Listening today to KB and Terry Wallace reviewing Saints list etc........TW says Billy Longer just won't make it, too many others have overtaken him on the list.

:D aww, poor Billy.
The problem is that Longer doesn't do much around the ground or up forward. He is just a ruckman. I think the game is going away from that to someone like Martin etc.

Just watching the saints vs port game. Longer thought the saints were going the other way, walked over the mark towards his goal and then realised he was going the wrong way. Seems to do that regularly. From memory he bombed the ball the wrong way for us on one occasion. His mind is as slow as his body is.

Problem with Billy is he was full of himself. I know a Guy who played Lions ressies with him for a few games, said you wouldn't meet a more full of him self bloke. Also thought after a handful of games he wouldn't cut it. Can't say I am all that upset seeing him go on to do not much with himself.

He did this with us once from memory?, on the wing at Eitihad, maybe in a NAB cup game, it was a howler.

Can't train and be at your best when you're playing World of Warcraft til 4am every morning either.

I got told a few years ago from a Brisbane lions player still on the list he was one of the dumbest people he had ever met, poor billy

Hmm Archie or Longer.. I wonder who I'd prefer.
Obviously hindsight and all that, but to think we gave up pick 12 for Longer and Smith has come from the Rookie List. Amazing how these things work out.

Edit - just remembered Longer was pick 8 and Docherty 12 - even worse!

Terrible, compromised draft.

Jesus what did billy do to you lot? Poor kid, product of one of the worst environments for a kid to be drafted into (I thought all your sources told you as much).

Not surprising he's not succeeding, confidence would've been shot from day one being involved with us for those years.

He never bought in. I highly doubt he was that emotionally invested as you make out. He is just an average person and a shit footballer.

Are you talking from personal experience? I met him once, seemed alright. Kind of hard to buy into the environment that we put forth to him!!

All draftees enter the AFL with the same opportunities available to them. With the right work ethic, he could have improved his situation here. I think top 10 draftees these days are a bit entitled. I don't care that he's gone, because we replaced him with someone who wants it more and is happy with the chance to work here.;)

Nah. Billy didn't stick around long enough for us to ruin him. [emoji3]

In all seriousness though he was playing in a winning reserves side (so it wasn't the losing) and was behind Leuey in the depth chart. Was a perfect opportunity to learn and develop without pressure if he wanted it. He didn't, his call.
